August 28, 200718 yr i'm talking to the owner of a 92 leg wagon that "needs a engine". when i asked what happened she responded with: "All I know is that they changed the oil in the car and my son's friends were revenning the engine to make sure oil was in the motor or something and decided to floor it and there was a loud bang." before i got her response i was kind of hoping it was the timing belt, but it doesn't sound like it. not much to go on but, any ideas? thanks, john

And then what? Did it die, did it keep running and sound like a rod was trying to escape, or what? You probably wont know until you actually look at it.
August 28, 200718 yr Author Whatever the reason, a loud 'bang' can't be good! yeah, most of my loud bangs have all been preceded by screeching brakes and cursing.
August 28, 200718 yr Loud bang in a subaru is usually a connecting rod. Look for a large hole in the block someplace. Normally this makes a texas sized gusher, but if they forgot to put oil in it ..... nipper
August 28, 200718 yr yeah...loud bang when revving it after an oil change means you're looking at a car without a motor. if you buy it make sure you adjust the price to account for that fact. at least the whole short block is garbage, maybe the heads too. ~Erik~
