Does anyone know if they still carry an OEM key for the first gen Legacy? Will be at the dealership next week when my buddy is getting his timing belt changed on his WRX and thinking of picking one up.

I would call and find out if they are still avalible. Chances are, if they are avalible, the dealer may not still keep them in stock and would have to order it.

That was my initial thought as well, just wanted to save myself some trouble since I got laughed at when calling about a blank key for an EA81 once.

I got one here (had to order) roughly $20 as a blank.

When I got my Lego used, I had worn out copies. My local dealer was able to order an OEM key and when you squeeze the key head, a light comes on so you don't scratch the door or miss the ignition at night.

Yes, that's the one. I bought two, one as a spare.

Key blanks for all the older Subarus (including EA81) are still available from a good locksmith. Sadly, they all say Nissan! But if it's a choice between a new key and an old worn one, I know which I'd go for. Most dealers can get you the key code from the VIN# if they no longer cut the keys themselves.

 

I had a new one cut by my favorite parts guy in Auburn, WA recently from the VIN# for our '91 Legacy wagon.

 

Local hardware store then cut me some spares using a DA25 key blank. Doesn't say Subaru, but doesn't say Nissan either.

I got the standard "fits datsun" key thing and got a spare one already for my legacy. Just wondering if they still carried them, guess ill just call and see on Monday morning.

You just mean, a blank key for a first gen legacy??

 

Just had one made here today cause bended mine:confused: and didnt wana riske having it breaking of in the steering wheel. Costs were 6 euros including cutting to my model.
