December 22, 200322 yr just called a shop for ****s and giggles to see what they'd charge to put a headgasket in my RX.. you better be sittin down.. they wanted $1200-$1500 to just do the drivers side gasket.. needless to say, i'm not takin the car in to have that done, lol
December 22, 200322 yr Author if i had the $$ to start my own shop / carlot i would do it in a heartbeat.. could undercut all these shops around here on labor and still make a killin..
December 22, 200322 yr Thats the main reason alot of (ignorant) Subaru owners park em and forget em when they blow a HG. Most (ignorant) mechanics dont want to mess with it, so they qoute an outrageous price. If it wasnt for this situation, we wouldnt be finding cheap Soobs in peoples yards and fields. Rob
December 22, 200322 yr that is the price around here ,but for both sides 1200-1500 bucks , if they can do it , and usually 2 weeks to get to it
December 22, 200322 yr hey Meekey: I live in Richmond and would be glad to help you replace that gasket. It would be best to do both while the engine is out of the car and there is a parts shop here in Richmond that sels a gasket set for about 135.00 if I remember correctly. it might be less, but it includes all of the gaskets from the heads on out.
December 23, 200322 yr The subie shop I use to work at would charge about that much to do both sides and a T-belt, water pump oilpump seals and cam seals, plus they only use OEM parts. Now that was about 7 years ago, I know their labor rate has gone up by about $15 - $20 an hour and we know that the cost of parts has gone up too.
December 23, 200322 yr Author well i'm not too worried about changin that head gasket, cause i'm certain i'll have to replace a head at the same time.. i'm going to have an engine built for me come febuary by a local guy looks like i'm going to be doing some tranny swapping in the next couple weeks anyways.. thanks for the offer tho mdjdc
