Anyone have some real-world pointers on what works best for re-installing the sliding rear window set in a 2nd gen Brat?

I've heard about using rope to pull a window into place, but haven't a clue what's really involved. Any details?

 

I'm guessing that the gasket goes in place first and then the windows are fitted, rather than trying to fit both as one "assembly", yes?

Put the gasket around the window. Put the rope in the lip of the gasket. Spray the pinchweld with some lubricant - silicone works well, as does WD40. Have someone hold the window and gasket up to the window witrh gentle inward pressure. Pull the rope to lift the gasket lip over the pinchweld. Ta da.

Okay, that makes sense. So basically the gasket and windows get "assembled" first, and then installed as one. I've got silicone spray, so that's what I'll use. Thanks...

Hey Paul- Have you visited the MCA Forum lately where I've got this documented? I think it's up to page 25 now with over 20,000 hits!

I try to visit here every now and then and post some pics, but time is tight these days.

 

I can't really think of anything I need Brat-related at this point. Junkyard Psycho that I am, I've already got a second set of many items including the tail-lights, rear windows, tail-gate, etc. Hell, I've got two sets of T-roofs and I ended up not using any!

Wish I would have had the good sense to search and see this thread a few days ago, when I put the back glass back into the Brat(only after removing it did I find out the new glass I got was the wrong size).

Well, I don't think this thread would have helped you with that problem!

 

In my case, I had to cut the gasket in half, as the roll cage was in the way and wouldn't even allow the gasket to be fitted in place by itself (never mind the windows).

 

In hindsight, I shouldn't have cut the gasket literally in "half", but more like 60/40. That should allow me to load up both windows on the "60" side and then just pop the remaining "40" side in. I realize this is not a good solution from a "weather-tight" standpoint, but this car will be stored inside and rarely driven in bad weather, so I'm not too concerned.

 

Glad I picked up the spare window w/ gasket at the U-Pull last year for $10. That was a deal to tough to pass up.
