January 12, 200422 yr I'm sitting there working on my ice racer, and looking at it. Thinking...this "4WD Turbo" intake plenum can't flow that well as it's rectangular and flattened. Now i'm not intercooling it, but is it worth building up a new pipe that is round to replace this thing?? Is it gonna flow better?? I'm already ditching the Airbox, and installing a cone filter. i also have a re-circ BOV off a Legacy Turbo which i'm thinking of throwing into the mix. Am i gonna see any HP's from replacing this thing??
January 12, 200422 yr Why not intercool it? You would probably see small gains in power from doing what you are suggesting, but with just a little more work to put an intercooler on you could gain a lot more power. Just my two cents.
January 12, 200422 yr Author if i can find an intercooler that will work in the next 3 days that is cheap enough i'll do it. apart from that, It's minus 30 up there, the air is cold enough
January 12, 200422 yr you dont need hood clearance... just do what i do - slam the hood shut. forcefully.
January 12, 200422 yr hehe. I don't think that would work with the setup I'm working on. my carb is going to barely fit under the hood when it's closed (and that's without the filter and cleaner box) so I'm going to *have* to cut a whole in the hood.
January 12, 200422 yr Author how much hood clearance are we talking about here?? are people not able to replace this piece with a piece of pipe when installing an intercooler??
January 13, 200422 yr ive seen several with ICs under there, and had no problems. They use round pipe, skip is the only one that I ahve seen to still use that aluminium peice. Skipper? pic? SubaruTex used round stuff, but now has a spyder intake, pics? and some others i have seen that rally crossed/autocrossed or 'es' I for one, have not replaced that peice. And I always shut my hood as gently as possible.......
