What exactly is this?

Featured Replies

seen that before and i always thought it was some sort of resistor :confused:

I believe it is actually a capacitor.

there are a few of them scattered in the harness.

Probably to supply something like the computer or cruise unit with steady power, no surges.

They call that a volt controlling diode I think. Limits systems to 12V. I believe the ignition system and the headlight system work thru that perticular one. Don't cut it out and you will be fine. 1/2 of it can be clipped off though.

It's either a Diode, or a fusible link.

Hook the wire to the battery, with the car running, and measure the output side with a MM. If it's a stable 12 V then it'd be a Diode. If it's 13-14 V Fusible Link

it could, be related to the night time dimming.....of like the radio and such.....

if it is this, would be nice to tap into for my boost gauge and radio and other such like things lighting..

Sorry for the late response. Where would this be found in the car? Behind the dash or under the hood? And if you could give me an exact location that would be helpful so I wouldn't have to spend hours cutting the harness out. I ask because the one pictured isn't my harness and my harness doesn't have that diode, I must have cut it out like an rump roast.
