June 12, 200916 yr Ok im really confused as to my brakes. If I apply the brakes lightly as anything over 40mph I get a vibration in the steering wheel. If I brake hard a few times the vibration at highway speeds is kinda scary. I have new duralast rotors, pads, rebuilt calipers, shoes etc. What could it be? To attempt to remedy the situation I am going to remove the rotors and take them in for warranty and I just got a set of Bendix CQ Ceramic pads from rockauto on special for $10.85 You guys think that will help?
June 12, 200916 yr I just got me a set of the bendix pads for my brat off rockauto. They are terribly noisy till they warm up. It sounds like your vibration is a warped rotor to me, especially if its Duralast, im guessing those are the, rarely turnable Autozone cheapies.
June 12, 200916 yr Author The wheels were just balanced also. Yes they are like $20 rotors from autozone, should I take them in for warranty or...
June 13, 200916 yr take them in and have them put a dial indicator on them, or just take them in and say they are warped. didnt by chance go through any puddles after heating up your brakes did you? duralast never last especially from the auto-bone
June 13, 200916 yr Author I heard warped rotors was a myth lol. Anyways yes I go through LOADS of puddles:grin:
June 13, 200916 yr I heard warped rotors was a myth lol. Not at all. Every Legacy I've owned so far has had warped rotor's to some extent - even my 91 SS which uses the 274mm rotors of the later 2.5GT's were severely warped. People use their brakes instead of dropping down a gear around here. Used to have some Ford Aerostar's - they would always warp after a time. It's a known problem. I've never had a warped set on an EA vehicle though. GD
June 13, 200916 yr OH yea break rotors warp. My wifes caravan rotors were terrrible. You could tell they were warped just buy them sitting on the van. You could se the spots where it was brakeing and not.
June 13, 200916 yr I've never had a warped set on an EA vehicle though. Well, I have. My BRAT is currently looking for some new rotors cuz mine go (squeak*pause*squeak) every second or so depending on speed. Oh and I'm buying new pads as well Oh and Caramonos2000, I would get raybestos, or a similar brand. They're available from csk/oreiley's, and they are what my dad uses on his mail car, and my moms mail car. And you wouldn't believe the kind of torture those brakes take. Twitch
June 13, 200916 yr Author Sometimes when I turn I get an intermitent squeek, could that be my rotors?
June 13, 200916 yr Sometimes when I turn I get an intermitent squeek, could that be my rotors? I had a similar prob, took them for skimming and that solved the prob, may be you could try that out.
June 13, 200916 yr Turning. Meaning they basically put it on a lathe and make the surface even again.
June 14, 200916 yr Turning. Meaning they basically put it on a lathe and make the surface even again. ya, get this done. problem solved
