I had the exact same problem happen to me years ago with my 87 GL. It turned out to be exactly what Generaldisorder guessed. I ended up having a new piping and valve installed as part of some Subaru upgrade or recall???

Just received my radiator from a EBAY purchase. I got it for $49 + $13 shipping. I looked it over and it`s all steel. It beats some of the online pricing I`ve seen for these. Last I checked, there was still one left... I`ll install it this weekend if the weather holds up...

Thanxxx for the info, I drowned my entire ductwork and vents with Lysol. I did the same with the interior using Fabreeze. -

When I resurrected my Justy, I encountered the exact same problem. The mouse had a regular Hilton set up. He had pine needles and insulation (exactly like in your pic) piled up ontop of my heater core. Justy cores lay horizontal. Stored ontop of this was seeds & nuts to last him through a holocaust. The insulation was stuffed in the main feeder pipe coming from the blower and there was mouse equivilent to a kingsize bed ontop of the blower. I found this mouse Hilton the first time I tried it. I was lucky. It did`nt destroy my blower, but made a mess. I took the blower apart and cleaned out the main pipe to the core. I used compressed air to blow out the remainder and collected for the most part about a paper bag full from the cleaning. For the next couple of months, I was still pulling the remainders from all of the vents. I also had to combat a smell from what was seeds and nuts that had rotted. I have full flow now and enough heat to bake bread..... -

Really Stoopid Things We Have Done

I just finished rebuilding the front end on my Justy 2 weeks ago. Last weekend I was out running around to the various flea mkts and while on the highway 70mph, the car started making a horrendous chatter and grinding noise. I backed it down to the legal minimum and limped it home. I put it up on jack stands expecting to find one of my newly remanufactured halfshafts to have failed, but everything was tight. So I locked and chocked the rear wheels and started the car. I put it in gear and couldn`t simulate the problem again. So I gingerly shifted through to 5th and looked again. I had a 2x4 against the torqueing side. Every once in a while I would get the same noise, but it was intermitent. From my frustration, I punched the tire:banghead: and lo behold the noise stayed constant. I shut the car off and was figuring the worse, like a bearing failure. I removed the tire and was going to repeat when I noticed shiny spots on the inside of the wheel. On closer view I found my noise-maker. In my haste to finish one side of my rebuild and start on the other side, I neglected to put the bolts back into the slide pins that hold the caliper on and the caliper had walked off the rotor enough to rub against the inside of the wheel. MECHANICAL STUPIDITY ERROR. Luckily it was an easy and cheap fix... -
years ago my temp gauge slowly started to climb and it turned out to be a worn out clutch fan. Just a thought...

Sorry for the delay, I admit it, I turn wrenchs for a living and I`m PC illiterate. #2 son helped me. The 1st pic is of my new installed basket on my Justy with the 2nd pic of my home made brackets and hardware. The 3rd pic is my Loyale with the basket I installed a couple of years back with my own brackets and hardware. Now that the weather is warming up, I`ll install my gold "pugs" on the wagon and post it up.

Make sure all of your vac hoses are in the correct places.

why can't i find my radiator ground wire?
RONAN replied to skinnyhb's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Total agreement, it works on the same principle as an anode in a home water heater tank, or the bottom of steel hulled houseboats. -
Correct me if I`m wrong, but the difference in load rating depended on how many ply`s, not necessarily tire size when talking about 175`s and 185`s. I believe if you look, you`ll find that the ratings only less than 200# difference between the 2 sizes. Not enough to make a difference IMHO.

I just finished mounting a safari basket on the roof of my 88 Justy. For those of you that don`t know, trunk space in a Justy is extremely limited. I installed support rails that I cut to length from a Volvo at the roof edges for strength. I welded & fab`ed my own brackets and installed them at the rear, middle & front support pillars of the car for load bearing. It turned out really good and has increased my carrying space when needed, without having to lay the rear seats down. I already had the same set-up on my Loyale wagon and it`s paid for itself many times over. I custom mounted this one and it`s the full length and width of the roof. For example, I`ve assisted the boyscouts with transport many times and can easily fit and carry 5 loaded backpacks on the roof, leaving plenty of space to seat 5 with additional space in the trunk for added gear.

I`m running with a new set of Blizzaks. I`ve only had 1 test (8") with them this winter. They held up to what they say. -

Check EBAY, awhile back they had waterpump rebuild kits for around $24 -
There was a real nice rust-free one for sale in the Cincy area last year. I stopped and looked it over. It had the sun-roof.
