Does anyone have a pin wrench socked that I may borrow?
What part of the Seattle area are you located at? I have one of the tools and may temporarily turn loose of it.

Adapter Plate Question
Scott may see your question and reply with pitch and length. If you do source bolts you will want to make sure they don't protrude past flush on the plate so they won't try to act like a jack bolt against the transaxle or engine case. A little bolt end trimming and a flat washer or two should suffice.

Adapter Plate Question
Yes, get some dowels. The adapter plate has both the ea and ej dowel locations drilled and they ensure alignment. On your bolts, find out what thread pitch they are (could be sae or uss treads although they are probably metric) and measure the length you need for sufficient engagement and you should be good. IIRC you will need to drill the threads out of the engine case in one position for the bolt to pass through.

Keeping a/c with EJ swap
I've done a lot of R-12 to R-134a retrofits and pretty much exclusively run ester oil. Castrol makes what they call "retro ester" that I'm not aware of any failures resulting from its use but I also get ester oil from the local napa. From my experience if you use pag be sure and wear protective gloves and eyeware, I have scars from getting some pag oil on my hands that Kenworth used in the mid 90's, it's nasty stuff.

Keeping a/c with EJ swap
Why is it "improper" to use the EJ compressor?

EJ22 versus EJ25
GD I think you are mistaken on the early DOHC and Phase II piston / compression thing. The Phase II pistons don't come out of the deck as you stated but they have a smaller dish volume in them than the early engines so you unless I'm mistaken (entirely possible) you actually have more compression with the Phase II shortblock / pistons. If I remember correctly the early dish volume is 14cc's and the Phase II 6cc's.

Knock sensor?
capn_r replied to desertsubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXNapa lists the same part numbers for those years so if you have a good one in the mix I'd run it. If you don't have a known good one maybe some more experienced posters will chime in with a recommendation.

I need advanced help, and checked the obvious
capn_r replied to plodder's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThanks Gary we will see what happens. We are trying a long distance thing, Dann is a couple of hundred miles north of me and I don't have any FSM's for his generation vehicle to do trouble shooting procedures from. It sounds like he doesn't have power to the coil, does that help sort out what he might be dealing with? Are the OBD II coils the way I remember the earlier one's where the center terminal on the connector to the coil should have battery voltage when the key is on? Thanks for your responses. Abe

Waterwagon 3 Build-up, and the SJR+EJ Lift Thread!
Yes, I believe any of the EA82 series vehicles born with GD's favorite engine EA82T, manual transaxle's are 3.7. Push button single range, FT4WD single range , the 85-86 RX part time dual range, and the 87-89.5(?) FT4WD dual range.

anyone near Bellingham have an OBDII code reader?
A coworker of Scotts has a 96 Outback (I think that is what it is) that died and wont restart and I thought maybe it would tell on itself if the codes could be read. Thanks!

- windows won't defog & occasional smell of antifreeze in cabin
capn_r replied to go_mo_bryth's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIs it possible that the smell is windshield washer solvent rather than engine coolant? Maybe with the fresh air coming in from the cowl you get a whiff of the windshield solvent instead of coolant after using the washer for deicing / cleaning.- newly frankenized gl

I have a phase II 2.5 engine that I may want to get the cylinders bored .5mm oversize. Is there a fave shop that could accommodate me where I wouldn't bust the budget getting it done? I would prefer the western Washington area but the cases could do a little traveling if necessary. Thanks- cel wiring?
I looked in my 86 FSM and the only thing I found was a red/blue wire from the check connector II by the wiper motor that went to the ECS light. I hope that helps some. How is your torque monster commuter beater project coming?- Different transmission for 93 2WD Impreza?
capn_r replied to bendecker's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI think 93 and 94 Impreza FWD 5 gear trannys had 23 spline axles and everything else was 25 spline. If you find a gearbox you may want to do an axle stub spline count.- Ej25 sohc
capn_r replied to capn_r's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI did get a number off of it (serial # maybe?) by the bellhousing flange B561869 if that means anything to anyone. I will probably pick it up in the next few days and see if I can get any details on it's history. I think it was a take out from a local shop that ended up in the boneyard where I found it.- Ej25 sohc
