Cracked another one. This one was repaired previous to my owning it. I put a 4 1/2 in. piece of mahogany wedged in just so but even with full adjustment its a BEAR. I'm going to tear this thing apart .....soon. If you go thru clutch cables and/or have trouble with your pedal being excessively stiff , can't keep it adjusted , etc..... check the pedal box on the far left for US cars and alike. Just below where the pin is for the pedal (pivot). Right where the cable mounts to the side of the pedal box. Good luck with yours.

I know they can be a nuisance so have a small vise-grip just incase. Oh ! , good size screwdriver to stop the fan while you manage the 10mm nuts. You'll figure it out , we all did. LOL

And that car - Subafreak has/had an EJ22 sitting in his Gen I too ...... and to date that's about all it did. Maybe he'll chime in here and remind me of what happened to that project. Lot of work to finish for an average guy. Labor of love.

I'd almost pay you to paint those pulleys. While you're at it , the valve covers too. I was kind of lucky to have a fresh block and new pumps etc. when I did mine. Folks really pop thier eyes out when they see the fresh power plant in the old cruddy wagon. LOL But hey , nice job and good luck with the carb. Toughest part about putting it all back together to me.

Consider shifting on the fly too. At least disengaging it sure seems to make a big difference. But yeah , I'm in FWD until the fall unless we hit the trails.

I vote for heat the hole. Add pb blaster or yield , etc. while warm. That'll back out with vise grips. That don't work lots of us have spare manifolds. I think subaru3 has one for sale now on eBay. You can do it !!

Get your face down there and push clutch with your right hand. Watch the metal flex by the pivot pin, just below it. That and routing. I know I need to work both out before I'm happy with mine. My pedal box was welded already. Check yours for a stress crack. Once it happens it just gets worse.

I agree. My choke is not correct and is affecting my overall ride. But for many reasons the carb is also better after my backyard rebuild. (did not soak the body) This year I hope to go through all vacuum lines and get as close to pro on that carb as I can. Weber can wait for me. Last word - I can't understand just how my car was doing pretty much 30mpg , and certainly 33mpg on the highway , for the first few years I owned it. Since then is progressively got less. Now with my hack rebuild its somewhere in between. I think when I get that choke sorted out it'll be back towards 30mpg. So I hope.

Next year , maybe ..... Sounds like more than I expected. Have to get the classic license plate for the '92 now. LOL

How was Carlisle ? Caffeine and carbs was cancelled up here. No Show weekend. LOL Got some inspiration and devoted a small window of time I had on my '78. Needed a tire replaced and got a new spare as well. They let me in the bay even had to get involved and assist ,etc. So while the wheels were off I of course found myself iritated at the rust and sand/mud left from the late fall and winter. Hadn't given it the real bath it deserved. This caused me to give each corner a good cleanout and brass wire brush what I could. Cheesy paint for the old steel wheels - quick hack job that I blame on the paint - mostly Quick blast of gloss black on some of the suspension , supprts ,etc. underside. Just real basic attention but it felt good for me to have my eyes all over the car and start making a plan for the future. Hope you guys found some time and inspiration too. Cheers!

My wagon needs them too. Aren't these also going into the early 80's - gen II ?? Or no ?I had my wagon off the ground for some tire/wheel work and they're seperating. I'll post the pic tomorrow. But , yes , where do we get them? Can we send a mustache bar out to someone who sends it back with urethane?

2wd or 4wd? If 2wd does it need to be manual shift or automatic ? There's rebuilt on eBay.

Apologies to those who do attend , for the lack of representation these days. I think we topped off around 7-5 years back. Still fun and I hope to still have an outside chance of going. Someday we'll get another good group together and probably even get the 25 needed for the "club status tent". If we could get the CT group alone that'd be at the very least 6 guys with something from the 80's and earlier. And that's just the guys that are reasonably active with vintage Subarus. Get the Legacy/Impreza/WRX generation involved and it could get overwhelming. So , that said , I don't expect to go this year but there does exist that outside chance. Enjoy!!
