Big Big Props to WagonsOnly
moosens replied to Bucky92's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Congrats Connie!! Like I told you,it felt REALLY GOOD driving that little XT. Good luck with it. Andrew came through for me too, albeit a little late but we love him anyways. He took off his sweater and got down and funky with it. Ain't never seen him working so hard.:-p -
Windshield gaskets Batch One ***Completed***
moosens replied to Zefy's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Hang on guys.I haven't even opened the boxes yet. This weekend I'll get some going.John C,I know you floors are wet, you're will go out first. -
Give your thoughts, please. 1985 GL ***which already had an SPFI conversion** wagon that just got an engine swap done to it. Put in the SPFI engine from my old '89 touring wagon, which is/was a manual. The '85 is an automatic. I haven't done one of these in years but as far as I know we got it right and I'm guessing a bolt fell down inside the timing hole. The engine runs great but the noise from the bell housing is kind of scary, and yes, there's the slight smoke factor too. I personally swapped the flex plate over and I'm sure I put the retaining washer on just like it came off. We did not swap any bellhousing....as far as we both could remember there's no need to....right? They measure the same. We'll be pulling the engine/tranny apart to find out and correct. Could that small plate that sits at the very bottom be bent upward? I know we'll be finding out,but man this one had us all looking at each other speachless. Otherwise,Andrew and Charlie were saving my nuts before winter. They were both wrench turning fools on a mission.

A subaru owner from Sweden
moosens replied to riverstream's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Welcome. My old 1976 DL sedan sits at a dealership in Sweden.I'll have to dig up the name. Nice Brat! -
79 brat the guy wants more than 10K for it!!!
moosens replied to RdNkBrt's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
10k = his problem, not the buyer's. Looks like a bit-chin project though. There's a complete fiberglass sheel (Gen II Brat) in Mass. that we've seen. That must have taken some time to make,so that guy thinks his is worth a fortune too.Very nice work.Time is money. But bailing out of a project like these usually costs you a good chunk. -

Wow,this is one twisted Suba-tale. -

Yes,please try to keep negative comments about board members workmanship, cars, etc. from the board. We've all done it,me too. -
Kiwi subbie, have you seen this?
moosens replied to Johnnyboy's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Well, there you have it.My hopes,my dreams, everything but my money. That car is probably #1 on my list of desired vintage Subarus. I can't believe it's going so low. That's worth 3-4 times as much, and I'm not being sentimental either.Current price at $1500. -

Windshield gaskets Batch One ***Completed***
moosens replied to Zefy's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Yes,ladies and gentlemen,they have arrived. -
Looks it to me.That's '77 stage II or an early '78. If the rear bumper is slightly rounded with shorter bumper ends than the later '78 and '79 then that's the style I'm looking for. edit:just checked again, that's them! That makes it a definite '77 or early '78.After May of '78 I think it is,they switched to the more squared bumper with longer endcaps. Dammit! just looked down and saw I'm wearing the Flappy's shirt!!!! aaaaaarrrrrgggg!!!!!

Eeewww... EA82 rear main seal tear-apart pics
moosens replied to Syonyk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You might want to take the "oil sump pipe O ring challenge". Pain to get off most of the time. Old oil doesn't look too hideous.I've had some that were running fine looked that just like that. -
Hey,I like that description alot! You guys have to drive around in an old 1600 with no power anything for awhile. Then when you get into the otherwise slightly lame EA82 you'll feel like you went from a tractor to a late 60's Caddy. Yeah, lots of people rag on the EA82 but it's been mighty kind to me. SPFI is fine enough for this poorboy.Add the D/R fivespeed and life is good.

Gee,thanks If that's the case then why keep this thread going??????? Sometimes people DO search and find it too time consuming for too little of a reward. Here's the reward from the exact search you just suggested to me: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/search.php?searchid=338063 Look familiar? Like I was going to say, let's keep this thread going and add all you can that pertains to the swap then it'll be THE thread to keep. Good day.
-
Can we archive this thread? I know I'm going to be doing the same swap so I'm going to print this when it's time. Good thread, good info.
