Windshield gaskets Batch One ***Completed***
Yup,I've gathered up some boxes and will be sending the Canadian lot and John Cockrell's firstly. Hang tight.I suck at getting things out sometimes. But I'll most likely be taking a winter layoff so things should be completed swiftly.

Before you go for that free Subaru.....
Thanks guys, but no way in hell am I bothering anymore with this car or anything I don't really need from the 80's. The only thing I want is to see either Andrew or myself use that engine and exhaust. Well, like I said last night Andrew,I think the car should go to Charlie's so it's parts are more easily available. If I'm riding out the winter with any of these cars still around I'd like to see that engine, etc. available to me firstly after all this.

Before you go for that free Subaru.....
Ask how bad the mouse urine smell is. Oh my......just got back from one very nasty ride back from picking up a nice woman's GL 4door in upstate NY.She says the car only sat about three months or so.Never in my life have I smelled something that bad for that long of a time.Windows open, took it well in mid 40's temperature at 55mph++ but by the time we hit the super highway at 65mph+++ I had to roll up all but the passenger side, which was about half+ open....just below level with my nose.I was driving mostly with my sweatshirt pulled up over my nose. Man,I even brought Ozium with me thinking I'd have to deal with a little mold smell.Well, the trunk had the mold smell going on with the rotted corners sucking up water.Almost wish I could have driven it from inside the trunk instead.Ozium is one of the strongest air sanitizers you can score at most stores. It barely helped and only very temporarily. I'd have just turned around but the engine runs like a top and is very quiet. And let's face,we've got some issues going on here. This may have been the spear through the heart of my .....hopefully former..."obsession" with retrieving derelict 80's Subarus.I've been saying I'm going to drop the 80's crap and focus on my 70's and get a nice Impreza.....well,NOW I'm SO ready it's sickening. I am so tired of the 80's cars taking time away from my life. THE END

How many EA82 P/S pumps are there? Which is this one?
Well,Andrew is supposed to hook me up with it,but thanks.I'll keep that in mind just incase. For all the effort on this car and it's $100 price I can't complain.Well, wait a minute.....where do I start.

Thanks guys. I'll see about that seal first before anything else.

How many EA82 P/S pumps are there? Which is this one?
I wonder if I can score a new rubber seal thingy..... Only problem is,me and the car are in Bridgeport with no intentions of driving back to Charlie's too soon.

How many EA82 P/S pumps are there? Which is this one?
Dang'd if I wasn't just thinking about that Y-pipe.Gonna be needing that. The '78 has a new clutch cable and is now much more drivable. Thanks Connie,I'll be in touch.I was thinking afterwards that Andrew could have brought that down....oh well Yes,Pat the type I was forced to use is the side saddle reservoir. The lines weren't about to be removed, etc. at that point so it was easier to swap the pump.I didn't hear it making noise before, but I only drove the car for a very short time. Looking at it today it seemed fairly dry, lever not bad, just still noisy when you crank the wheel. This pump may have had the pulley changed,or should I maybe be getting ribbed belts?I used the same belts it came to me with, regular old V belts.

I have a lower profile pump that has a double pulley and accepts shorter hoses than the typical EA82 sedan/wagon pump. Is this an XT pump? I'll try to get some pictures later,if I have time. One low profile pump needed that doesn't leak or make noise. Thanks for any help.

Any guesses? Whirring noise and smoke from bellhousing
I hear ya! Well, stuff happens as they say.Charlie was there and he's a full time car guy so I don't feel so bad.I also asked him to double check me on the re-fit of all the hoses,etc.....and I go to start the car and tranny fluid is wizzing all over the battery....never hooked up the top tranny coolant line.....:-\ .Stuff happens. He's under some pressure lately, and we're all too busy lately so I undertand.Otherwise he's one of the best. So,I went to the old engine to see if there's a difference in those plates from std. to auto. and they were the same. The other one was also bent upwards in a more viscious manner as if the engine was placed down on hard corner.

It was that cover plate.

Big Big Props to WagonsOnly
Congrats Connie!! Like I told you,it felt REALLY GOOD driving that little XT. Good luck with it. Andrew came through for me too, albeit a little late but we love him anyways. He took off his sweater and got down and funky with it. Ain't never seen him working so hard.:-p

Hi Pat. Thanks for the info. T/C never left the tranny.Going up there now,I'll post back just how bad that stinkin plate was bent.....I hope. Cheers!

Give your thoughts, please. 1985 GL ***which already had an SPFI conversion** wagon that just got an engine swap done to it. Put in the SPFI engine from my old '89 touring wagon, which is/was a manual. The '85 is an automatic. I haven't done one of these in years but as far as I know we got it right and I'm guessing a bolt fell down inside the timing hole. The engine runs great but the noise from the bell housing is kind of scary, and yes, there's the slight smoke factor too. I personally swapped the flex plate over and I'm sure I put the retaining washer on just like it came off. We did not swap any bellhousing....as far as we both could remember there's no need to....right? They measure the same. We'll be pulling the engine/tranny apart to find out and correct. Could that small plate that sits at the very bottom be bent upward? I know we'll be finding out,but man this one had us all looking at each other speachless. Otherwise,Andrew and Charlie were saving my nuts before winter. They were both wrench turning fools on a mission.

A subaru owner from Sweden
Welcome. My old 1976 DL sedan sits at a dealership in Sweden.I'll have to dig up the name. Nice Brat!
-
79 brat the guy wants more than 10K for it!!!
10k = his problem, not the buyer's. Looks like a bit-chin project though. There's a complete fiberglass sheel (Gen II Brat) in Mass. that we've seen. That must have taken some time to make,so that guy thinks his is worth a fortune too.Very nice work.Time is money. But bailing out of a project like these usually costs you a good chunk.

night TSD rally, Sat 11/18, in Mount Kisco NY (Westchester)

Wagonsonly and WagonsonlySR
Like Jon said....but thanks for offering. If you can, then sure, but if you can't then we'll have to catch up to Jon pretty soon.I hope to have things in order soon where I can give Connie the GLF back, also need to pick up that car in NY...could use your help, maybe visit Jon on the way....??? Wow,this is one twisted Suba-tale.
-
New look for the Brat
Yes,please try to keep negative comments about board members workmanship, cars, etc. from the board. We've all done it,me too.
-
Kiwi subbie, have you seen this?
Well, there you have it.My hopes,my dreams, everything but my money. That car is probably #1 on my list of desired vintage Subarus. I can't believe it's going so low. That's worth 3-4 times as much, and I'm not being sentimental either.Current price at $1500.

Wagonsonly and WagonsonlySR
:-\ Doh! Sorry Jon,I didn't think you'd do something like that without hearing from Andrew.
