Sorry to hear about the damage.Losers! Yes,the GSR is way too special to those who have some tie to the early years of Subaru. Dual carb'd 1400 w/93 hp at around 4800rpm(??) 10:1 pistons and a good amount more lobe to the cam.Sure they aren't worth what the Z cars of the early 70's are but to us they're worth dumping $2-3,000 USD's into them. My '73 Coupe will be about as close to the GSR as you're likely to find here in the USA.Except we got the lesser powered EA62

Hot air intake pipe not connected to stove pipe
moosens replied to Kraven's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If it's a large diameter hose it probably goes to the "trombone" pipe at the top of the intermediate pipe (longer mid-pipe) just rear of your tranny. -

Your Y pipe should have a small tube rising up from around just before the cat.on the passenger side. One end of the flex tube goes on there...other on the airbox...you know the deal. -

Ea 82 carbed to SPFI
moosens replied to breaffyaviation's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Dude, you're 19 and in the Carolinas....up here when you get a little older and money is tighter you might want to do things just to stretch the life of a car a little longer. I'm not saying that's something I prefer to do,but it can be done. And with about as much effort as making pretty little caps for you portholes. The point is to just lift an intake and stuff a good block underneath.Call it what you want but if it works for a while, why not? We're talking about cars that are disappearing from the roads up here faster than you can say "the sherriff's got the best moonshine around". Some states have serious emissions standards as well.Lack of equipmnet is an automatic failure.Bye bye to a day of effort for lack of a few minutes more of effort. -
That's the one I was looking for.So I did give that to you in your load of XT stuff then.... Pat,if you can send it to Noah, that'd be great. Noah, you got a super deal on that tranny, please cover Pat for the shipping. WagonsOnly probably would have kicked my butt if we weren't the good friends that we are.(to the rest of you.....don't ask! )

Engine Swap: What will be needed?
moosens replied to tscinmd's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Intake manifold gaskets, for one thing. Does the new engine have both pumps on it? As long as the rear of the engine exposed you might as well do the rear main seal.Infact,do both the front and rear.Clutch kits are on eBay fairly cheap. -

But you can indeed swap a carb'd block under an SPFI delivery.Just block the ports. I've never done the oposite but my guru 30+ year Subaru man says you can, just drill out the port and I believe the threads are there in all SPFI heads.Correct me if I'm wrong on that someone, please. -

Hi Trudy, good to see you back in action. Is this the blue one in VT? I think it was listed for $1000. I was really considering it but it's just not the right time for me to take something like this on.But dang dog dooodley,I sure was tempted.....good luck sweety. Take care, Paul -
If you don't get a response by tomorrow I'll try to bring home one of my manuals and scan it for you.

If you are planning on swapping engines you can lift the intake off with all the hoses attatched and place it where the spare tire deck is,then swap the longblock. You can use a later engine with Single Port Fuel Injection, just drill out the EGR ports on the exhaust ports(we'll help you through when it's time). You might have a harder time finding a carb'd engine but don't let that hold you back. If you have the Dual Range 5speed on demand 4WD tranny it's worth keeping going for sure. Many of us here will have parts for you at very reasonable prices. Good luck with it.
