  1. I'm from Montana as well. I haven't been on recently, since both my suby's are now sold. But I'm from Hamilton, go to school in Moscow, ID.
  2. i'd be interested to know how it handles after that. you just cut them right? i have heard that with cutting them you're always hitting the bump stops.
  3. ya know, my 88 has been having a similar problem, it has no a/c so it has a single electric fan. my rx has the engine mount fan and an electric because of the a/c. i've been thinking about getting a second one for the wagon too, though the thermostat could be the cuplrit partially as well. how hot is it getting anyway? does it get to redline or just too close for comfort?
  4. Anything is possible!.....especially if you happen to have a sawzall and bulk supply of duct tape!
  5. along similar lines then... are ea82's and ea82T's not overhead cam? and what exactly is the major difference between ea81 and 82 series engines?
  6. So, just wondering, but is there anybody else on the board from Ravalli county here or nearby. I've been seeing a red hatch with beefy tires running around but haven't been able to find out who owns it yet. just curious.
  7. i had an identical problem. it so happened that when the previous owner had fixed the broken intake he had somehow messed up the maf. easiest way to check is just to unhook the sensor and see if it idles. if it does, than thats the problem. if you take off the black cover on the top of the sensor there'll be a screw holding the gear in place, if you loosen that you can move the gear (which adjust the tension on the sensor door). I just moved mine around until i got it to where it idled right and then just snugged the screw back down. I reasealed the cover with silicone to to make it waterproof again. i also had a bunch of oil blown back up in there too, and it helped to clean that out as well.
  8. if you need anything around the missoula area lemme know, i'm 40 mins south. good luck and enjoy!
  9. So i've been thinking of what the new car should be. i'm thinking of a 93+ imprezza. however i need to find a few things out. Will a ej22t bolt into a 5spd car that came with a 1.8? i know i'd have to change the ecu, but anything other than that? thanks, and if anybody has an imprezza they feel the need to get rid of cheap, i'd be glad to take it off your hands
  10. can you see where the coolant is coming from? my rx was leaking for a while but it turned out to be on of the turbo coolant lines had a pinhole in it and was spraying out and making it appear to be coming from the turbo itself.
  11. well, my 88 gl wagon, ea82, spfi has 294,000 as of yesterday on all original components except for the oil pump, i changed out what seemed to be the original fuel filter at around 240,000 i think (not entirely sure, date was rubbed off), has 5spd, dual range, and will still occasionally hit 65.
  12. okay, i'm getting ready to start upgrading the rx, plans include: intercooler, boost controller and blow-off valve or bypass valve. but what i was wondering is, what intercoolers have you all used, and what ones seem to be best? also, blow off or bypass? money is a major issue and i'm going for performance, and simplicity and could care less about sound and looks. what do you suggest? thanks p.s. i found a 3000gt bypass valve on ebay for $25, a bosch bypass for $40 and a tyfoon (?) bov for $50 (new).
  13. i had a very similar problem on my rx when i first got it. it turned out to be tha MAF....it was very dirty and out of adjustment. it has a different air filter and box so i had to readjust it...which took me about 2 weeks of fiddling to get it right. i also took it apart and blasted it with electronics cleaner, which seemed to help a little. i also pushed the electrical contacts down to make a better connection. been working great until a little while ago, but i think i may have gotten some oil back up in it.
  14. i have an 86 rx...with electrical problems. i THINK it has to do with the sunroof, specifically the relay, i hope. the only problem is that i can't seem to find the relay. anybody know where it is?
  15. my bad...i do have something grounding out...now the question is what. nothing with the starter though, its the wire that heads into the fusable link box. i don't know where it goes from there though, i have all the fuses pulled so it can't go to the fusebox. anybody have a wiring diagram by chance?
  16. well,i just had the alt checked and it works perfect. i hooked up the new batt. and it doesn't spark. i checked and rechecked every wire that got moved during the pump replacement and everything is fine. i can't think of anything else, but it drains the battery in less then 4 hours. only things that i can think of now are the coil and the starter, but the starter doesn't make much sense, it's working perfectly so i think i'll go after the coil next.
  17. i dont have the extra parking light switch, which i thought was kinda odd though because i have one on my wagon (88 though). i also checked for grounding, and it's not showing any. i'm getting really confused now, i have no idea. would a dying alternator cause anything like this? i wouldn't think so, but then i don't know much about how the charging system works... thanks
  18. okay heres the situation: 86 RX sedan, 5spd with ac i recently changed the water pump and several days later i came out and the battery was compleatly dead. i had the battery checked and it was history, so after putting in a new battery it drained it by the next morning. i have pulled every nonessential fuse and then some and it still drains. it runs perfect and nothing seems wrong but i can't figure out why the heck its draining. if anybody can help me out i'd be greatfull. thanks
  19. Anybody know how the final drive ratios compare on the mid 80's 5spds and autos? e82t's specificially
  20. Did subaru ever make an RX sedan with air suspension? I looked at a sedan a while back that had all the rx decals, but it was an 85 with stock air suspension and an auto. didn't think of it until now, anybody know?
  21. i moved it to the marketplace now. By black gray i meant that though origionally black, parts of it now look gray from fading or damaged paint. Its factory a/c then by the position of the pump. like i said i hate to get rid of it, but money is getting tight so, lemme know if your interested, i'll try and post some pics here soon.
  22. 1986 RX sedan for sale $800: 4 door, 5spd, D/R 4wd, Power sunroof, pwr windows, A/C (dealer installed i think), black/gray in color, 174,000 miles Okay, thats the basics, It has new: front axles, tires, and almost all new coolant lines (turbo has all new), and water pump and now the bad: missing front grill, parking lights broken, rear right doorpanel half missing(but rather dirty), rear left window motor missing (but the window is locked up), one headlight has water in it (not serious though, just asthetic), dent in hood, paint fading, leaks a little oil, a few tears in the seats. Well, i just bought a pickup a little while ago and this was to be my new project car, but unfortunately it ended up costing way more than it was supposed to, so sadly the subaru has to go. Other than what i said was wrong, the car runs and drives great. I bought it this summer and drove it to denver and back, then i changed all the coolant lines (one started leaking). a little rough looking but runs great, also straight piped right now. I'm in Corvallis, MT, but i could meet you somewhere if you like. I'd like for it to go to a good home so if your interested call me at 406-531-0678 The vin is: JF2AC56B8GE221913
