over heating
What kinda condition is the radiator in? Is it plugged up at all? Have a severe case of fin rot? How's the coolant?

No start! Eating computers??
87.5 XT Turbo, definitely. I dunno if the spider intake has anything special on it that prevents non-XT ECUs from working though.

No start! Eating computers??
By spider, I mean it has the new fancy shmancy intake manifold on it. TB points toward the firewall, and has 4 runners that look like spider legs (sort of...). That's an 87.5. I'm not entirely sure what ECUs are compatible with it though. 85-86 definitely are not compatible. Seems to me early 87 (non-spider, tb points toward the sky, but has hotwire maf and optical disty) aren't either. Probably could use the non-XT 88+ Turbo ECU. To be completely sure though, you'd probably have to get an 87.5 XT Turbo ECU. (XT Turbos never made it in the US past 87.5)

Your's is an 87.5. The 88 Manual doesn't cover Spider Turbos. They only cover the Spider N/A and the ER27. Try and find an 87 XT Manual...

Wagon Wheels
You guys are killing my thread Actually, I don't mind. I've hijacked a fair number of threads myself. I'm gonna have to pull a set of rear discs and see about shipping them to you guys down under.

EA82 with quad headlights?
DLs, the base model, have the quad sealed beams. The single lenses are considered better because they're not sealed beams, and you don't have four bulbs to replace, only two.

Wagon Wheels
Way I look at it, $100 was a decent deal. I wanted another set of wheels so I could have all-seasons on them. A set of A/S and a set of Snows for winter. I figure, $10/rim (I got 5, one doesn't have a tire), and $12.50/tire that'll last me probably two years. Not bad.

Wagon Wheels
I'll be honest, never thought of scowering junk yards for tires.
-
Wagon Wheels
Actually, the biggest advantage was the tires. I've been running snows I got from DrKrazy for cheap, and I needed some all seasons. They're very nice all season tires with about half tread left. I can probably get a couple years left out of the tires. Colorado is definitely not part of the rust belt.

T-Cat's old camo wagon... update with pics
I'm with him, I don't see a car. I just see floating lights...

Wagon Wheels
I got a set of Wagon Wheels and tires without about half tread left on them for $100 yesterday. (actually, got 5 wagon wheels, 4 of them had tires mounted already) I like the look of them on the wag, though, they need to be cleaned up and repainted. What do you guys do to clean them up with tires still mounted to them? I'd love to have 'em sandblasted and powder coated... I'll probably do that when they need new tires.

Loyale Turbo Nightmare Story
Yup I did check for one. Found one at radiatorexpress, there's a few sellers on eBay carrying them, Checker had one, Napa had one. They're still fairly easy to come by. Trouble I had was finding a two-row. Radiator express was the only one to carry one.

Are all EA-81's the same?
Dunno if there are any, but to be safe, you could just swap the intake (mani, carb, everything) from the 82 onto the 86. Oh, and probably the disty. That would negate any chances of having electrical differences.
-
Are all EA-81's the same?
Since they're both EA-81s, should drop right in, no problem. This is also an upgrade, since the 86 will have the hydro lifters, and possibly larger valves.

adaptors
Personally, I wouldn't touch lug adapters. They DO break. My friend used some on his old school bug... one of them ended breaking after a few months...

Loyale Turbo Nightmare Story
Actually, XT radiators are pretty easy to come by. Aftermarket XT6 radiators though were NEVER mader. The hard ones to come by for the XT are dual core. I've only seen one brand sell those. Most if not all major parts chains can get you a single core XT radiator.

ea82 fuel injected
All the heads have the same combustion chamber, so no. What determines compression is the pistons. Turbo pistons have a bathtub cut into the top of them, making them 7.7:1 instead of the carb's 9.0:1

How did my car stop using oil?
Oil doesn't look like its getting milkshaky does it? That's pretty odd that overheating stopped oil consumption...
-
ea82 fuel injected
You *could* change the heads, but then that leaves with the lower compression turbo pistons too... That sucks man.
-
ea82 fuel injected
Only made a single point carb'd intake. Why do you want to go carb btw?

Finally washed my new car
No you don't. The orange digi dashes suck to see in the daylight. I can't wear sunglasses while driving my XT cuz of it.
