88GL 5speed 4wd turbo check engine
replace the selinoid... well you can try cleaning the contacts on the connector but 90% of the ones I've replaced at work were bad seliniod. If you have to get one from a Junk Yard, go to a u pullit yard and get something "cheap" like a interior light cover or something and just put the selinoid in your pocket. They run like 40 or 50 bucks

Anchorage get together
yeah I'm starting to think that one of my heads is cracked. Not from this trip down, but sometime before. I get a little white smoke out the tail pipe about 35 percent of the time I'm driving. This time (after the major overheat) I noticed a sheen (slight film on top of the antifreezE) so I'm guessing its the 1 & 3 head thats bad. Found out the cause of the major overheat.... Aux Fan didnt turn on. Kelly I will let u know about the heads. I think I got some at work (just a matter of digging for them in the engine parts box)

Anchorage get together
hehe.. well I made it back to fairbanks.. Started the car this morning, let it warm up for 15 minutes, came outside and the cab was filled with smoke. Blew both heater core hoses. I've never knew the temp gauge would almost touch the 0 on the tach... Got it running. Left anchorage at 8:30 pm, made it to Wasilla and blew a upper rad hose (4th one this fall) But all in all we still made it in 5 and a half hours. Nice meeting you guys while I was down there. Thanks for dinner Matt.

Snow Tires? What Do You Like?
torxxx replied to EOppegaard's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI dunno about 55 Mph being max speed. I run a set of new studded tires every winter. Making serveral trips every fall down to anchorage doing about 80 mph. Half the drive is on snow/ice and the rest is on dry pavement. I hardly notice the "loss" of traction. Just my thoughts.

98 Forester Rear end help needed
Hey guys, I'm changing rear bearings in a 98 forester. I need some help with breaking it down to get to the spindle. 1. I noticed they have no pins holding the cv axle on the stub shaft on the rear end. Is this correct? 2. How do I disconnect the cable parking brake? 3. Do these break down the same way a EA82 wagon does? you have to pull the inside of the axle first and then pound the outside out of the spindle? Any help would be greatly appreciated. This town sucks. No Where in town do they have a chiltons or a haynes manual for subarus newer than 1996.

RX....why?
Everyone wants a RX because of how rare they are. I've only seen 4 Rx's in all of alaska. I talked to 3 of the owners and asked them if they would sell the car and all of them said no, just becuase of the fact that they are hard to find.

Did my first C.V. today!!!
- cv joint wont come off!!!!
he must be talking about the rear stub shaft. They are a pain in the rump roast.. Heat is what its going to take. I beat on mine for 2 days without heat and then it took 5 minutes after i got it hot with a rosebud tip. When u put the axle back on make sure you antiseeze the hell out of the shaft before you put the axle on good luck.- A couple of cylinder head questions...
1. No. heads should be done 3 times.. 23 ft lbs, then 43 ft lbs, then 47. The pattern starts with the center bolt and then goes to the top middle and goes in a circle from there clockwise working your way to the middle. If you torq those 12 mm bolts down the same as the head you will prolly strip them 3. 150,000 miles is about time for new gaskets. I have an 86 carb with 140,000 miles and the gaskets are just starting to go- cig lighter.
I think you could probably take a male spade connector and run a hot wire from the battery to the fuse box and plug it in with the cig lighter fuse.. that would make the circuit I think - cv joint wont come off!!!!
