  1. LOL...I don't like all the extensive stereos but I do really enjoy good sound and there alot of times I'm out somewhere and want to hear some tunes and I'm not in the car. hate a tinny sounding stereo. besides...I already have everything, why waste it....stereo was around $220, subs were $100 each, 12 disc changer was free from work outta a '94 Dodge truck. Can't get my money back selling them so might as well use 'em......I'me guessing my hatch came with speakers. It's a GL...thought they had most everything. ~~Lucas
  2. I've got an '86 hatch and didn't realize there were speakers back of the doors...mine must have been removed before I got it. but I'm going to put 2 12 inch JL Audio subs in the back when I get that far...already have the subs, JVC receiver, JVC 12 disc changer and amps that I was going to put in my Civic but decided to race the civic so don't need the extra weight. ~~Lucas
  3. Right now I'm just looking for as much info as I can about how to get it done...If/When I do the swap I want it done right...I am a welder but would get help at the least and if I find it's something I'm not comfortable doing, I will find someone to do it profesionally...I not only want it to look good but to be safe....I also plan to put a roll cage in my hatch but I had that planned before I ever thought of the T-Top. Any info anyone has would be much appreasated...Thanks ~~Lucas
  4. ugh...waded thru tons of threads and no luck finding anything on fun top swap from Brat to Hatch/Wagon...found one that was a hard top to fun top swap on a Brat. ~~Lucas
  5. I'd really like to put Brat a T-Top on my Hatch...how hard is it?? and what year Brat for my '86 Hatch??? ~~Lucas
  6. I've welded up a hold in a gas tank but never an oil pan...but know people that have...plus it's alot cheaper to weld it up than to buy another pan...but good idea to have an extra just in case of bad damage. ~~Lucas
  7. Never got stuck and even got a to tow a Ford Explorer off the sand to a gravel access road...was pretty funny to see. The two gals he was with didn't look all that impressed with his ride...LOL:banana:
  8. I've gone on the dunes in Florance,OR and Winchester Bay, OR. Completely stock 1986 GL hatchback, EA81 with normal street tires aired down to 10 psi. came across another mid 1980's GL wagon with ATV wheels/tires with adapter plates he had made....we ran all over the dunes. I've been back a few more times. :headbang:Have fun!! ~~Lucas
  9. I'm putting my guage cluster back in my '86 hatch and thought I had all the wires right but there are two connectors on the left side of the cluster one connector is black with a solid black wire and a yellow wire with red stripe...and the other connector is blue with a solid blue wire and a solid white wire. From what I can tell there is only one connector that goes to either the blue or black connector but don't know which. I tested it once, turned on the head lights and the gas guage went up like I had a full tank...I know it is nearly empty so I turned it off...Any help or ideas would be much appreciated. ~~Lucas
  10. The whole back of the lighter in my '86 GL hatch unscrews from the rest of the lighter...it's like the whole body of the lighter just unscrews...Hope this is helpful. ~~Lucas
  11. Well it's too late now...dash is done and ready to be put back into the soob...LOOKS SWEET!!
  12. Well I think I'm just going to say hell with it and drill out the factory rivits and then rerivit it after I'm done....Thanks guys. ~~Lucas
  13. I want to take the metal strip with the VIN # on it off so I can put the fabric on my dash and then put it back on...Has anyone done it of know if you can get in trouble?? I wouldn't think so but just curious. Thanks. ~~Lucas
  14. Really like the design with the rounded front for the tire. This is what I've been trying to figure out...how to make the gutter mounts...great idea! I was thinking about powder coating but the bedliner would work good too. ~~Lucas
  15. Well unfortunately the cost is over what I wanted to pay but because I couldn't find anyone else to do the bending I had no price to go by...it's so far almost $200 and that's only for the pipe and bending...I weld so no need for that cost. also everything else I can get at the metal recyclers for cheap. I did the measurements like 10 times before I finally committed to the bending of the 2 hoops...it's a perfect fit. it's going to be mounted to the rain gutters so don't think the weight is going to be too much...and I also have in mind the cargo that will go in the rack. I guess if push come to shove on the weight I could always sell it and start again but I want to build it myself cause I haven't seen any pre-made that I like. ~~Lucas
  16. I wouldn't say it's pointless...it's one more of the little things that make our cars cool:brow: ...what I'm suprised about is there is no mention of it on the board until now...at least when I did a search it came up zip. ~~Lucas
  17. Would those with a please roof rack post a pic?? Here's what I've designed so far...already have the hoops bent, cut and some welding done...no pics yet though. *EDIT* Had the wrong guage steel and pipe thickness...this is right. Was way too late when I finished it.
  18. I really like this idea...since I don't have a stereo in my soob, I think I'm going to put my cb in that slot....thanks for the great idea. ~~Lucas
  19. Last Fall I crushed the tip of my thumb in a PEM Press and about a week later with a wrapped splint on the thumb the wheel caught while backing up and those pesky knobs on the inside of the steering wheel caught dead on the tip of my thumb...the pain from that was 10 times worse than when I crushed it... OUCH!!! ~~Lucas
  20. Has anyone ever gone thru and custom re-upholstered/fabericed/carpeted just about everything on the inside?? Basicly I'm going for a look simular exterior to Turbone's camo hatch WAWalker's new blue hatch(both sweet and clean looking) but different color and I'm going to go thru the pretty much the whole interior and re-doing it in camo...when it's done it'll be one sweet looking camoed out interior with real oak tree camo.....Dash, Sunvisors, Hi-rise arm rest, Door panels, Roof liner...and lastly will be the aftermarket seats re-upholstered in camo and either dark green or a shade of brown carpet. then I'll continue to the exterior. Long term project but I actually do see an end to the mods. ~~Lucas
  21. From what I can tell the speaker in the vent on the passenger side isn't too hard to get out...now I could be wrong but it looks like if you take the glove box out you can get to it. By the time I get the dash out I'll know this for sure one way or another. If I had known taking the dash out was going to be so much trouble I would have thought twice about putting new upholstry/fabric on the dash...but I do know from what I've already got done that it's all going to be worth it in the end. ~~Lucas
  22. Well about 3 hours later and I finally got one screw out...what a ROYAL pain in the arse!!
