I Agree... but I am not completely sure about what kind of "Manual Choke" you are talkin´ about... but I just wanna Add that maybe you have just a bad Electrical Connnection, and it leaves the butterfly half open; or maybe the Choke Coil itself is damaged, or not properly working... in case of Electrical Choke with manual switch; but if it is only "manual" (Means Mechanical), check for the butterfly´s opening, it should be enough fully open when engine is at normal operatin´ temps; if not, just adjust it. Good Luck!

Yes... I just wanna add this: If you change the Timin´ Belts, so I suggest Strongly to Change the Ball Bearin´ on the Tensor Pulley of the Largest Belt. Good Luck!

Long time ago, I had similar sound on my EA82 Wagon, it was the Ball Bearin´ of the Timin´ Belt Tensor... then it did stop... and it broke the Belt. I suggest to check it. Other posibility is at the Clutch Bearin´ ... Check if when you press the clutch pedal at Idle, the sound goes... it happens sometimes, (or your subie is Automatic?) Good Luck!
