Rs brakes will fit under 15inch steelies/wheels. Wrx brakes, with the caliper moved outward to accomidate the larger rotor, require a 16x6.5 wheel or larger...although some 15inch forged rally wheels have been produced to fit(expensive). If you can get a deal on a used setup, go for it. More braking power is always good thing. Plus the larger rotors of the rs or wrx will help stave off brake fade and there is a variety of performance pads available which are made ranging from a better daily driver pad to full on race pads which require them to be heated up to work most effectively. HAve fun. Drive safe.

I am definetly camping. I will either sleep in my car or if someone lets me bunk in their tent, as i do not have the extra funds currently to purchase a decent tent. I would be down for a bbq/cook out. We could all bring coolers in the rigs which should be more than enough for those staying. As for trail difficulties, i am willing to try anything short of winching straight up rock faces. Remember, we are a group and thus recovery recsources and tools should be very abundent. Does anyone use that 40$ cb at radio shack? How does it work?

my god you guys rock

touche. Got that one by me.

Raven, Can i buy one. there is a 3.9 r200 with eeek 28 splines i think?
-
i already have 27inch ssr's mounted in the basement. I said i was getting a 5sp AWD tranny....a step down form the AWD auto. I didnt know there was both a 4spd and a 5spd dual range. i suppose i'll pass on the brat. if it wasnt so rusted i would just buy it and mod that. i already have collected a bit of tools for offroad situations. i need to order my beefed up wyth-scott come-along. I am going to sears this weekend (because everything is on sale) to get myself an extra 2 1/4 ton jack w/case to keep in my trunk. after lifting my brothers dodge 1500 5 inches, i realize the importance of carrying around blocks of wood.

my automatic has the dreaded solinoid C issue. bad. i havent flushed it yet but i dont want to waste the money. i hate driving an automatic. And now i can get a manualin my car for cheap, i am gonna do it. I realize manual awd is somewhat of a step down vs the auto awd, but i like driving stick, i am always afraid of bashing my automatic's fluid pan on something and i'd like to obtain a dual range one day and already being setup for a manual should help the process go alittle smoother. I live 2 blocks from work and 5 minutes from school. I am willing to make alittle sacrafice.

i have an automatic right now. I was planning on putting a manual awd tranny in. My dads friend up the street has an old brat with a manual 4wd dual range. I dont know what year or if he would be willing to part with it, but i dont think my parents would like me having to parts cars in the yard...I really want to step up my off road peformance.

haha. i found that out the hard way.

I dont know, pressing a button sounds alot easier than jacking car up and removing an axle, not to mention having the diff exposed to water, dirt, etc with the axle out. Also, because i have AWD, will thatnot mess with the center diff, casuing it to burn out.

Alright, after spending some time reading tonight, i think the nissan r200 rear is my answer. Pretty sure the arb locker fits, it should bolt right up with alittle modding of the rear support bar(mustash bar?). The only thing is the axels... Best of all there are models with all different gear ratios...including 3.9. I need to start looking around. And its built proof. ideally what spline count are subaru axles(25?) I want a locked diff, somewhere on my car. I dunno how well this will work with an open front diff. Might need to throw an lsd in there.
-
for an AWD ej car with a welded diff, if you pull an axle out wont that wear out the center VLSD?
-
transfer cases require alot of work. i thought they did.
-
i have an impreza

I guess i am trying to find a cheap way to get some lockage going for offroad. Weak viscous lsds are no fun. I guess i'll have to somehow squeeze a dual range into my car, if i could ever find one and someone who can fab up axels for me. And from my reading, the Vlsd can be welded or atleast thats how people are making it out to be.
-
Could one make a locled center diff for a subaru by welding it together or welding a spool into it? Would this bind like a mother on the street? i am assuming it would bind... I also came across on MRt's website, they sell a spool which makes your subaru RWD, interested for those who wanna run a transfer case.

Well, yea. I got a list started myself. -suspension(install stuts and springs) -Tires(got them mounted. need to cut fenders) -Drive train(really considering swapping in a manual tranny before this trip depending on if i get my parts car this week. see forsale forum for details) -cb radio? -stock up on fluids(wd40, motor oil, spare oil filter, pb blaster, etc) -Locate full size spare. What is classified as full size spare. I will have 27inch tires, can i use my current wheels(205/55/16?) -Locate orange flag -Put together a tool box for trip i am sure there is so much more
-
Couldn't i just bolt a tow hook ontot he bumper beam(given that i cut away some of the bumper skin)
-
is there any way of converting our ej suspensions from strut to shock/coil spring?
-
ewww PBR. :horse: I never knew a subaru could flex like that. I am super jealous of your first gen 's.
-
I might just do that.

Well, quite frankly, i dont know what to do for a rear recovery point. So far i have these ideas- -Spend 100$ for rear hitch. Lose ground clearance? -Custom fab rear bumper with hitch receiver. I dont know how to weld, and really dont have the reasources to fab a bumper myself. -Mount tow hook or d ring somewhere on the rear subframe using steel plate to reinforce the area. Any other ideas?
