  1. 290 k on my turbo wagon now, its all original even the turbo.. just take care of her and she'll take care of you.. i run castrol 10w40/20w50 and 1/4 quart of MMO (marvel mystery oil)
  2. well my turbo wagon has 290k original uses at the most a quart of oil between changes... coolant it never uses unless i go on a long trip then i gotta put some in.. was told by another person here on the board that the coolant usage is prolly a water pump.. when it leaks a little it drips onto the crossover pipe and poof gone.. so no sign of it.. i kn ow in my wagon, if ya get over 70-75 mph for extended periods it uses some, but just runnin around town, back and forth to work i never have to add any.. so i'm pretty sure its not a head gasket or the turbo, just a weeny water pump.. maybe bad design in them dunno...
  3. found it at a bone yard here, has 86k on it, they want $300.. i know its steep, but i know these are super hard to come by too.. so figured i'd put this out there for ya'll..
  4. well at least i htink its a gen1, has the same dash and front end as my 84' hatch. maybe i have my gen's wrong.. its prolly a gen 2, and my 86' wagon is a gen3.. all these gen's confuse me. anyways... thanks for the tip on the wheels
  5. so here i am takin the hatch down to this redneck shop.. and low and behold, he's got a 2wd gen1 wagon sittin out back with no back tires.. so while he's busy failing the hatch on inspection i go take a peek.. asked him about it, he said i can have it if i haul it off... hello chrome bumbers for my hatch, blue interior so i got lots of plastic.. he says the motor is bad.. its a gen1 ea81 wagon.. i can get this for nothin, but i jsut want a few parts off it.. he said i can't take a few parts i gotta take the hole thing.. so if theres any interest in parts, i'll go snag the hole car.. if not i'm going to pass on it... i'll have to take 2 wheels off my wagon to tow it home tho... will gen2 wheels fit on a gen1? i think they are the same, just wanna make sure.. if the cars got an auto trans it prolly got the engine i'm lookin for also... any takers???
  6. hey since your in the ashland/medford area.. i used to live in ashland a couple years ago... but there was a black xt6 fulltime 4wd just sittin under a shed, had been there for the 4 years i lived there.. never could get ahold of anyone about it tho.. maybe you might wanna check it out... its in ashland, if you turn at the police station and head straight out.. go under the railroad tracks (bridge) keep on goin past the nursing home and over the highway(bridge) make a lefct turn at the T and follow it for a mile or 2, it'll be on your left hand side next to a red barn.. its black, has a chrome trunk rack.. like i said its been there for a long time.. but the body is straighter than pee and i bet theres no rust on it.. it would prolly run with a little tlc.. i always wanted that car for the longest time.. go check it out, it might be a nice toy for one of you out there.. wish i could move back out there, but findin a job out there would be a nightmare...
  7. thanks for the offer Scott, i'm prolly not going to pull it until next month sometime... but like ya said it is pretty easy.. exhaust, trans, radiator, a few wires and hoses and whala... i know it can't wiegh more than my generator.. that thing takes 2 people just to move it and then its a struggle... sounds like i need to wait for the $20 special.. come out with a couple spare engines and trannies.. on another note i drove the pig to work this morning, the knock isn't any better or worse.. go figure... my past experience with rod knocks is once they start they only get worse, usually pretty quick like...
  8. well i got the exhaust leak fixed and the damn thing sounds like its got a rod knock... (deep knockin no matter the rpm's) i'm beginning to wonder if this hatch is really worth this much pain in my rump roast.. i know it shouldn't be too hard to get this EA81 outa there since theres nothin really under the hood anyways.. but i'f i'm gonna put another engine in this pile, i wanna get another complete engine and rebuild it from scratch.. that way i can just plop the damn thing in there... any low budget suggestions on mods when i do this? if its not gonna cost me an arm and a leg i might as well do it to get some more power outa it..
  9. well i got the blower motor fixed too now... everything was fine, but the guts of the motor were full of dirst, grime, and rust (from the scuba diving i suppose) ended up takin the hole motor apart, cleanin everything, puttin it back together and whala works as good as new... brushes had crap gummed up all over them.. the inside of the housing was the same..
  10. well i figured out the oil pressure gauge.. the sending unit is bad.. i can wiggle the hole post in it where the screw goes in.. and when i do the guage works for a second then goes off again.. i'll have to look into pullin the glove box and checkin everything... wheres that little glass fuse located at? haven't seen it..

  12. ok fixed this problem, one light was shuttin off when the brake pedal was pushed.. all i did was pull the bulb and turn it around and put it back in, seemed to have fixed it :brolleye:
  13. i changed out all my bulbs last night, with the correct ones.. now the stinkin brake light warning light on the dash comes on when i step on the brake or turn on the lights.. any ideas?? i know they work cause i checked them twice...
  14. heh i remember drivin a dodge caravan from sacremento to oregon on 4 temporary donuts.. 65-70 down the road, drove 6 hours (300+ miles), never had a problem.. those things are tough
  15. that looks easy enough i did get a recommendation from a guy here at work on where to get it inspected.... gonna try that on my way home what did those fender flares originally fit? was thinkin on gettin some for the hatch, just not that wide.... but wasn't sure on what to start with.. toyota, nissan, etc... we got a napa here in town, and a fisher.. will have to hit them up if it dosn't pass teh 2nd time around today...
  16. seems like i'm never gong to get this hatch to pass inspection... for you all that have lifted soobs, how did you run the brake lines and get them in the eyelet on the strut? i know since its lifted they are a little short now.. but this thing won't pass inspection with'em that tight and not in the eyelet.... maybe longer brake lines? but where to get'em from? other than that the hatch is just peachy hmm, i did a search online, for some universal brake lines.. all i can find is universal line for a motorcycle.. think that would work? its stainless braided as well....
  17. the hatch failed inspection because the brake lines are not long enough( so he says) and they're not in the little mounting bracket on the strut.. i told him to set the car down on the ground and check'm and they got 4" of slack... but he said no.. grr.. so i either have to find longer brake lines, or a n ew inspection station... the guy tried to tell me the lift was illegal cause it was on a car, so i told him show that to me in the book.. the book just said it can't be lifted more than 3"... if anyon eknows of an inspection station here in VA that will pass it let me know lol...
  18. alright tried pullin the vac. line off the bottom one and pluggin it... still only gettin about 8psi :/
  19. ok, its time to fix the 2 things mentioned above.. its on an 84' GL hatch... analog gauge cluster.. the oil pressure gauge just sits on 0 doesn't even budge.. i know it has oil pressure since i drove it home 300 miles from NJ.. just bugs me not havin that gauge working.. i've checked the wired to the oil sendin unit, they are all there and connected... maybe a bad sending unit? or gauge? 2nd one is the heater blower switch.. doesn't do a thing, just looks neat on teh dash.. i pulled it out last night, everything is connected, and the switch clicks like it should, just no blower.. bad blower motor? or?? suggestions on what to look for would be nice :-) thanks
  20. hey Subarubrat.... my hatch should be rdy to go hopefully by the end of the day today.. is in the shop gettin exhaust fixed and inspected.. hte wheel bearing swap fixed alot of things.. so whenever your rdy to go wheelin give me a holler.. weekends are my days off, sometimes have kid with me, sometimes the wife too, but they both like goin wheelin anyways
  21. just another thoguht, had this problem on another car i had.. the battery cable would glaze over once ever week or so, causin the same hting, just a click... so i'd have to pull the cable off the battery clean it real good and it would work for another week or so.. ended up just replacing the cable entirely.. the + post on the battery was glazing also.. not sure why it was doin that but that was my culprit..
  22. speakin of eadlights, i hit the parts store last night to get all 4 lights for my 84' hatch.. the guys computer said it only had 2.. and after the third time of him askin me if i was sure it had 4, i told him to look up an 84' brat.. and sure enough got all 4 of my lights.. so just remember if ya go to Advance for headlights for youtr hatch. tell'em to look up a brat :eh:
  23. well, my hood doesn't have 1 sticker on it.. but i did find a white sticker on my valve cover that says "Do Not Adjust Valve Lash" so guess my 84' 4-speed has hydro lifters
