heh, well the dealer here can look up the part, find out where its at, and how many are in the country... a long time ago i checked on a cybrid PS pump for my xt6, they tell me they are $700 and there are only 10 left in the country.. next time i ask for tranny mounts for my hatch.. they say they are $55 and only 1100 in the country.. if you want thier phone # i can get it for ya.. they seem to be able to find just about anything heh.. they'll even tell ya what city the parts are in...

well everytime ya go to shut it off, it sits there and coughs and sputters for a minute or so then it shuts off.. i know the key is off, its sorta like its still gettin gas after i shut the key off.. any ideas?

yeah, prolly bad disty.. do you have the hitachi, or the nipondenso? the disty outa the 83' engine i put in my hatch had a hitachi, and i swapped it with the nippon, since i already had new cap rotor, etc.. so if ya got a hitachi and need one, i got one sittin here..

i know yur not in Virginia, but here the big book of inspections says 3" of body lift and no suspension lift.. although i wonder how the guys with trucks can lift thiers 8" or more and get away with it, :cornfuzz:

alternator doin wierd things
Meeky Moose replied to Meeky Moose's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
well, figured it out after quadruple checking everything, the ground wire on the block was loose, i could barely move the connector so it wasn't real loose, but i guess loose enough to make a bad ground.. torqued it with my torque wrench and all is fixed.. -
EA81 MASSIVE backfireing problem...
Meeky Moose replied to GeneralDisorder's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
well fixed my backfire.. all teh emissions stuff was just hangin really when i got the car, and with teh weber alot of it doesn't hook up anymore.. but i took the 2 lines that come from the ASV's and hooked it into a tube that came outa the intake.. seemed to have fixed the backfire and the rough idle.. not sure what that line is for so dunno if it should be there or not.. going to dig in my FSM and figure it out.. -
alternator doin wierd things

heh yeah thats righ, thanks for the correction skip, it is volts.. i'll pull that today and clean it.. could have some NJ swamp water coroding it. -
well, when the car is sittin idle you can crank everything on, lights, heater, stereo, etc and the alt charges fine.. you can rev teh engine and no change.. but as soon as you start rolling it drops to about 10 amps.. doesn't matter if you turn verything off or not.. i can't figure it out, i have it grounded in 2 different places, and even swapped the xt6 alternator for the stock one, and no change.. any ideas??

EA81 MASSIVE backfireing problem...
Meeky Moose replied to GeneralDisorder's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
so this is a backfire when ya let off the gas right? cause thats what i'm gettin now since the engine swap.. the swapped in engine had one asv on it, so i had to use one off my other engine, so maybe the asv is bad on my spare engine that i put in? cause the old engine never did it at all... -
bad water pump? or what?? SOLVED!!!
Meeky Moose replied to Meeky Moose's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
heh, yeah i had it pointin in the right direction.. as for the pump, when i took the new one back off, i check the impellar to see if it was loose... was nice and tight, and also had 5 vanes, and it was cast like the oem.. i did think about somethin pluggin the cooling system somewhere, but the only thing i could think of would be coolant hose rotting from the inside out, and pluggin up.. otherwise the engine, radiator, etc is alsmot spotless on the inside.. -
bad water pump? or what?? SOLVED!!!
Meeky Moose replied to Meeky Moose's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
well i think i solved it.. put my old (known good) water pump on, no difference.. so i pulled the thermostat completely out.. at idle i gotta have the fan on to keep it cool, but when drivin the temp gauge never moves off the first bar on the temp gauge.. so i guess that new thermostat i got is bad.. gonna take it back tomorrow and get a refund.. figure i might just drive it without one... its 40 degrees outside now, and it was still puttin out enough heat to heat the car nicely.. on another note, after drainin the radiator, pullin the pump, and takin teh thermostat out, it only took 3/4 of a gallon of water to fill it.. seemed odd to me.. but it is a 1core legacy aluminum radiator, so not sure what its supposed to hold.. -

Opinions on 5-lug adapter?
Meeky Moose replied to Holmes's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
if they were made outa steel, i'd consider them for the hatch, but deffinitely not aluminum -

thanks for the directions.. i work mon-friday 8-4:30 :-\ so would be hard to meet ya mon. or tues. maybe i'l get lucky and find some tranny mounts in decent shape.. might wander up there this weekend, maybe drive the hatch if i can get the cooling problem fixed now.... isn't one thing its another, but eventually it'll be like new -
bad water pump? or what?? SOLVED!!!
Meeky Moose replied to Meeky Moose's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
ohh yeah forgot to mention.. the old radiator cap was pretty worn, and when i did the system fluch i watched it over flow from the cap.. so i replaced the cap, and it acctually ran hotter with a new cap.. go figure.. one thing i did notice tonight, was that after a 20 min drive into town and it runnin hot.. i got out and the radiator was cold, but both hoses to and from it were hot.. so i popped the cap, didn't get any spray and radiator was full.. all this started after the new water pump was put on.. the old one with bad bearings, grindin, and wobblin kept the car nice and cool.. -

alright, well i replaced the water pump and it started running hot.. so i replaced the thermostat and it didn't help at all... i can let the hatch sit there and idle all day long and it never gets hot, but soon as ya start drivin it, up the gauge goes.. i'm a bit stumped on this one... its got a aluminum radiator outa a legacy in it, so radiator cooling is great.. fans on or off, doesn't make a difference, niether does the heater on or off.. think i got a bad pump from the parts store?? any suggestions?? i ran some radiator flush thorough it today also.. just to clean it out.. -
heh i'd buy one.. need one for my office here at work.. its always lacking a calendar thats handy.. votin on the cars to put in it would be a great idea Dennis.. i'd even submit a lifted hatch pic.. hehe.. since there are soo many soobs, and i'm sure everyone would wana see thier car in a calendar. so every year we'd have to pick a different 12.. or pick 12 people, and put all of there cars on one month.. might be better.. just my ideas..

heh goo gone works, is not too harsh.. and you can get it in lemony scent so you car will smell good when you done.. guess that'd be the same as bein bouncey fresh too..

new water pump and it runs hotter??
Meeky Moose replied to Meeky Moose's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i thoguht that too, so i cranked the heater, let it warm up to where the temp leveled off, and added coolant.. made no difference... hehe thats why its seems strange to me.. -
i know on some other brands of cars when an oil pump goes you lose oil pressure completely.. and i know about the ea82, er27 oil pumps needin resealed.. but even if they need sealed they still put out sufficient oil pressure to do the job.. since ea81's are new to me, what happens when an ea81 oil pump goes out?? no pressure at all? lifters start tickin? what?
