  1. well the stock oil pressure gauge is toast, so i hooked up an aftermarket gauge tonight.. its reading 50psi at idle and almost 70 at 2500-3k.. the engine is warm too, since i jsut drove it home from work.. any reason this could be?? is it a bad thing or a good thing?? this oil pump was on the engine that had sat for several years before i stuck it in and started usin it..
  2. hehe just like headlights for my 84 hatch.. advance auto parts has that wrong.. after the guy argueing with me, tryin to convince me i only had 2 headlights not 4, i had him look up a brat.. that was listed correctly as having 4, so i bought those.. he seriously thought i couldn't count or somethin.. like i can't tell the difference between 2 and 4.. lol
  3. just from my experiences with lifted vehicles in general.. i prefer the wider offset and wider tires, somethin that sticks out a little bit.. gives it a more solid feeling when cornering, crawlin sideways, etc... this lifted hatch with the pugs is nice, but it feels like they're too skinny.. and deffinitely don't stick out far enough.. when these tires wear out i'm doin a 6-lug conversion for sure... besides the wider they are and the more they stick out the more mud they sling
  4. that would deffinitely tick me off, even if the state required there to be a plate on the front.. Billy Bob, out there in his greasy overalls, with a drill, and a big grin.. drillin holes in the front of my car.. ummm don't think so.. if its required for a front plate to be mounted, i'd make them mount a factory license plate bracket on my bumper.. not just drill a couple holes and put self threading screws in there.. just my .02 i'd like to hear what they do to "make it right"
  5. 4wd D/r (Dual Range) gives you a shifter for 2wd, 4wd, and 4wd low range.. 4wd low range just reduces the gear ratio so it has more power for serious off roading.. its the same as in most ever other 4wd vehicle made today.. Subaru quit using the D/R transmissions in i think it was 1988.. thats when they went with the pushbutton single range 4wd which did not have the gear reductions.. then when the legacy series came out they went to AWD.. and thats where they stand today.. correct me if i'm wrong GD:drunk:
  6. well as far as fuel filters go, my 84' hatch has one under the car by the fuel pump, and also one up under the hood right behind/next to the strut tower..
  7. friend at work told me of a mud hole that i'd get stuck in.. well i didn't go through the BIG hole.. it looked deep.. so i opted for the small one.. which was about 4 small ones in a row and a buncha trails and being all by myself i didn't wanna get stuck and have to walk home.. first little one was deep enough for the hatch to scrape bottom.. the next ones weren't deep, just really soft.. slung some mud for a few minutes.. drove way back into the woods and came to a creek crossing that looked slick, deep, and uninviting.. so i turned around.. all in all, the hatch slung mud great, never even flinched.. wanna go back when i can get someone else to go along in another 4x4.. funny enough i think the hatch just needed some mud.. it runs better now, and doesn't have that funny vibration.. (think i got enough mud in the wheels to balance them) the blue hatch is sittin in the driveway now brown.. gonna go to work and rub it in to that guy that said i'd get stuck, :moon: sorry no pics, was all alone in the woods..
  8. i think i got the hatch roadworthy, and good enough to go play now.. acctually got the rusted, moldy, seatbelts to work so the kid can ride along.. just not sure on where to go around here.. figured maybe some of ya would like to get together sometime and play.. first snow maybe? or? any weekend is good for me really.. and you PA soob heads are included in this.. i just don't wanna have to drive the hatch for 3 hours to go play and break somethin, and have to walk home to get the truck to tow it back..
  9. heh, my 89 acura ran amsoil full synthetic, and now it runs mobil 1 and with 171k it doesn't leak a drop, just as clean as a brand new engine..
  10. sorry, i know my wagon is not a newer soob, but 290k original on my 86' turbo wagon just runnin castrol dino oil says alot IMO...
  11. heh, least ya got off and can acctually fix your soob.. my wife slid my acura into a dirt bank, and totaled it.. on the other hand, swerving can sometimes be uncontrollable.. was drivin down my road to my house in the ole ford, only goin about 45mph, dog runs out, i lock up all 4 tires.. truck slides sideways, so i let off to keep from rollin it,, jumped off the side of the road (4 foot drop easy), plowed through a few trees, and ended up in someones front yard.. 26 year old ford trucks don't slide straight... least i only broke the mirror..
  12. i'd say an XT6, drove ours from oregon to VA cruised at about 90 with the cruise control set from california to colorado.. straight through 1 and a half days.. of course there was the ocasional town to slow down for but the majority of it was 90 mph or so... very comfortable, car handles it great, and still got about 27 mpg avg.. this was a 4eat tranny also..
  13. yeah, when i had the hatch inspected, the guy measured the block thats on the engine crossmember (least i think thats where its at) that one was 3" he never looked at the way the strut is mounted theres another 1" there..
  14. yes, that engine does have hydraulic lifters.. so if it sat for a very long time it may just need to be run for a few hundred miles to get them "pumped up" the ticking won't hurt the engine at all though.. the other posibility is that the seals in the oil pump have dried up, and its sucking air into the oil, not letting the lifters "pump up" personally i would change the oil, and drive it for a few hundred miles before resealing the oil pump.. my guess it would prolly be fine.
  15. aftermarket weber 32/36 dgev to be exact.. this weekend i'll check for vacuum leaks.. i know it sounds different on this engine then it did on the last.. it sounds like its sucking air.. and no matter how far ya turn the mixture screw out it runs fine.. i know when it was on the old engine ya turn it too far out and it'd die.. really all i did was swap intake manifolds, with new gaskets of course.. so not sure why it'd be different..
  16. well i'll be the first to say, welcome to the board.. sorry i don't know the answer to your question tho, i've never seen a 1600 cylinder head.. but i would tend to think the 1600 cylinder head would be smaller than the 1800...
  17. lov ed the HH in my wagon, till the spring that pulls it back snapped at a light.. i had to romp the wagon, turbo spoolin, 4 grand on the tach to get it outa the intersection.. the i got out, pulled the lever back, unhooked the cable, and away i went although don't think i'll hook the one up on the hatch, as stated its nice to be able to roll backwards when 4x4ing..
  18. ok back to the question, any ideas why this ea81 is dieseling when i shut it off?? its got a weber on it too.. and a bump..
  19. heh, all i know is a blue/grey 85' rx sedan will be sittin in my driveway come the end of the month.. :moon:
  20. don't forget the little hose that comes from the intake to the turbo coolant passage.. its on the left side though..
  21. never used them, but they look good to me.. maybe i might put some of those on the rx when i get it.. nice price too btw..
  22. my 86' turbo wagon 5-speed came with both fans, the mechanical fan was removed when the 2 core radiator was put in, cause it interfered. so now it just runs with the electric fan.. never have to turn it on unless i'm sittin in traffic for a very long time.. and yes t-stats can be bad outa the box, just went through that with my hatch. bad t-stat, replaced with one i knew was good, and fixed the problem..
  23. ahh forgot to mention its got a weber... hehe yeah, we're scrapin the bottom of the barrel Dennis... but the RX will come to us soon enough you should see our fridge, lol, looks like and empty cave really.. been fightin with oil leaks, cooling issues, trans issues, carb issues, alternator issues.. but spendin as little as possible to skim along till we can get the RX from ya.. the hatch just has to run for a couple more weeks really.. after that, i'll be drivin the RX till i can get the $$ to fix the hatch the right way..
