Interesting Brat sign
Meeky Moose replied to edrach's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
reminds me of the sign i saw goin up pikes peak in Colorado, "Bigfoot crossing" with a sketch of bigfoot on it.. -
i just recently swapped my 86' 2wd turbo disty into my 85' rx.. i noticed a big power difference.. and after 5k rpm's it no longer looses pull.. it pulls hard up past redline.. didn't push it over 6500 tho but was still pullin hard even then.. not sure on the year thing, i always thought the 85 and 86's were different from the 87+ due to the maf, various sensors, etc.. at any rate, i would say compare it to yours, vacuum line, plugs, wires, etc.. if it will "hook" up the same as yours i'd say put it in, you'll notice a difference..

91 Loyale 4WD Wagon starting diagnosis help
Meeky Moose replied to PeterL's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
well, one other thing i can think of is the ignition switch.. i know my hatch is totally different from a loyale, but sometimes you can turn the key to start and it does absolutely nothing.. but keep tryin and wiggle the key and it'll fire right up.. think i got a bad tumbler in the ignition switch.. just something else to look into.. -
supposed to get snow friday and sat this week.. woohoo we'll see

87 1/2 xt 4 turbo what to do
Meeky Moose replied to tailgatewagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
titles are always aquireable.... just depends on how much ya wanna do to get one.... i know here in virginia as well as oregon, if you have a car and no title, you can send a registered letter to the previous owner (DMV will give you thier last known mailing address) if they don't respond in 30 days, you can apply for a title in your name and get one.. no ifs ands or :moon: i'd check with your dmv, i'm sure they have a very similiar procedure..... would be a shame to lose another rare car..:boohoo: -
well no to both of those questions.. the oil pump is an external pump , its mounted on the front of the engine.. i've never taken one off myself, so i can't go into much detail.. i know the oil filter screws onto it, and its about 6" long by 4" wide.. and i know the o-rings on it go bad like i posted above.. I've heard of some folks just gettin the o-ring kit from napa for like $6 and replacin teh o-rings, boltin it back on and whala fixed.. or ya can get new pumps for somewhere around $45.. free bump.. hope someone else here pipes up on the procedure...

heads can be rebuilt, but if you have a bad (worn) oil pump the lifters will still tick because they are hydraulic (need oil pressure to function properly) this is a common problem with all EA82 series engines. the oil pump o-rings become worn, this allows air to enter the oil steam, causeing the lifters to tick.. they will tick faster and sometimes harder the higher you rev the engine.. this is not known to cause major damage to anything, but would REALLY be advised to fix.. oil pumps are fairly easy to replace.. they are right on teh front of the engine down low (oil filter screws onto it) you should be able to see the bolts that hold it on.. its pretty straight forward.. there are others that can explain the hole procedure better than I

91 Loyale 4WD Wagon starting diagnosis help
Meeky Moose replied to PeterL's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
the click and whiring sound is normal in my experiences.. i'm pretty sure that click and whir is totally irrelevant to it not cranking.. if its not cranking at all, theres a few things to check.. make sure the battery is good. the cold weather tends to get an older battery.. its got to be getting some sorta power from the battery because the fuel pump is working. (thats what the click and whirring sound is) next try cleaning your battery cables with a wire brush or battery terminal brush, sometimes they develop a coating on them and will not make a good connection.. if your car is a 5-speed and its parked on a hill, turn the key to the on position, let it roll a little bit and pop start it.. beings that is it fuel injected it should start right up.... if its not on a hill and ya don't have a few buddies to push ya don't try it, this will not work if its an automatic. if you manage to get it started take it to a parts store (advance, napa, autozone, etc.. and have them check the charging system and battery.. heres a few symptoms that your fuel pump and/or fuel filter are bad. car cranks but does not start, or starts then dies quickly car will seem to stall intermittently.. your car will always crank even if your fuel pump and/or fuel filter are plugged or broken. i'd really check the battery... ya might even hit walmart and get a cheapo battery and try it.. if it doesn't work simply take it back for a refund.. but i'm bettin the cold weather got your battery.. -

other option i thought of, just take the 2 wires that plug into the thermo sensor, and jumper them together.. this will make the fan come on when the key is on..

well i haven't really found anything real good to play in here.. i know the mud holes i've been through are about 20 ft long, i drag bottom, sling mud about 8" deep, and don't get stuck.. so i guess that says a littel bit for the ole hatch.. Jules said it all depends on the weather.... if its nice outside he'll be in the driveway.. if its rainy he'll prolly be in the car with me.. the wife wants to go, but she doesn't wanna get bounced around alot (shes due in june) so i might just have her follow me in the RX.. that way she can follow us out to take pics, etc.. hopin she'll wanna do that, i haven't run the idea by her yet.. i know we'll have eaten by the time we get to your place, kid wakes us at 5:30 every morning anyways.. -

broken sensor was a knock sensor.. jury rigged a broken one in there, and swapped my 2wd disty into the car... runs good as new now.. on inspection of the old disty, there were some physical problems inside of it.. metal on metal type things.. you could spin it with your hand and listen to the metal hit each other "click click click"... thanks for the info all -
need to know what this is...
Meeky Moose replied to Meeky Moose's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
well, the dealer wanted $195 for one, advance wanted $125... i didn't buy one of course, i can get a hole motor for that price, lol anways, i am headin over to Scrapdaddy's house tonight, he's got a spare if we can get it outa the block, haha temporarily i took teh old one outa the wagon, it is snapped off, but the 2 prongs are not broken, so i carefully put it in place, and plugged it in.. i also put in my 2wd disty, and damn it runs a whole bunch better.. its basically good as new now..
