  1. I dont think the pirelli scorpions are that great of an offroad tire. How much more traction are you looking for offroad? I think they actually make "Low profile M/T" tires these days, so you can have yourself a set of dubs to go with your offroading H2. But I just got done stuffing some 27X9.5x15 tires on my wagon, and the tires on mine are actually larger in diameter than the stock ones on the Outback xt. (by a mm or two) You could check into rally gravel wheels that can clear 4 pot calipers and are 15 inch in size. Thats about it?
  2. That worked fine for me. I eventually got smart, and found if I could air the spare down to 15 psi I could just barely squeeze it in the donut slot. No more goofy FWD fuse! I jumped my old camry once by accident, there was a broken warning sign that I didnt think anything of. For a railroad crossing. It humped up for the railroad then came back down immediately, I bottomed the front end out, the recoil then went to the back and it bottomed it out, then there was still enough force for the front to bottom out again. Pay attention if there is a pole in the middle of now where folks!
  3. wheels were brand new at discounttire.com and tires came from summitracing.com 600$ total. I also had to buy new open end lug nuts. (10$ @ auto store)
  4. post fixed. Andyjo: You should totally bring all the spare stuff in the topper, be an offroader dressed up as a Soccer vehicle! I also might bring my regular tires, I dont know if I can stand driving on ssr's for 5 hours. I also have a friend who doesent live too far out, so I could just bring them to there and switch them out.
  5. Wheel lock, I think it will rub on compression AND lock though. And I had to run out and buy new steelies, and new lugnuts even!
  6. mounted! Didnt even have to remove the fender lining!
  7. I'll take one if its removalable. I'm not one for badges on my wagon, but if its in a group its bad rump roast.
  8. I'll hopefully be mounting my SSR's today also, I had to order some new steel wheels since the only used ones I found were 1) the wrong size 2) cost more 3) used
  9. damn, no alcohol on premises of paragon. Looks like we can camp out and have a fire, but no cold ones
  10. I hydrolocked my first car, but it had 230K miles on it, so it wasnt a huge loss. But ever since then I'm pretty terrified of water.
  11. I'll plan on the 15th, might as well bring my girl along too. My project wont be ready by then, just the swampers.
  12. I'll just sleep in the back of my wagon if we camp. Does you need to book anything with Paragon? I also think if we're all going in a group, you would only need that listed equipment total in the group. Not for every rig. I could be wrong though.
  13. damn, the best view spots are always at the end of the trail!
  14. I'd also like to know if the dates set in stone and everything is official, what we'd need to bring, and who's organizing all this? Or is it just 'all of us' type deal?
  15. yeah, the possibilites are endless as long as your wallet is too! You know what else would be cool? A roof box, like a thule cargo carrier, to carry the spare tire and all kinds of equipment/food/oils in also, and then some spot / flood lights on the front of it that turn up when you need them, and bend back down for aerodynamics/sleeper look. Hahaha, that'd be so gimmicky I'd love it.
  16. Come on guys, Money really isnt an object? You're not thinking fourth dimensionally! '06 H6 Selectable front and rear diffs, automatic tranny, LSD when not in use. Real AWD with selectable 4WD, throw in a Samurai 6:1 low range without hanging down from the body, adjustable air ride for highway/town/off road use, 33's, 35's interco trxus, clearence for them, street tires to go along with them so I dont always drive like I shouldnt be and sound like a B 52. Onboard air, welder, hi lift, air jacks, impact gun, automatic swaybars, cooled and heated front and rear seats, enough sound deadener to put the wife to sleep, the entire rear covered in rhino liner, including possibly the insides of the rear door and the back of the back seats, so I could fold the seats down and toss larger, muddy stuff in the back and not worry about the carpet. Custom bumpers front and rear, skid plates all around, stereing boxes cv joints everything, rocker protection (Needed on a unibdy even?) and bobbed whatever necessary for 60/45/60 approach, breakover, and departure angles. Still room for me to sleep in the back. Magical fully adjustable gear ratios for whatever I feel like doing that day. Framed doors for the windows. Actually, throw in a supercharger and run about 12 psi on that H6. Of course, it still would have to get near 30 mpg (lowering ratios with that much torque?) and everything would have to be air craft grade bomb proofness. Yeah, its fun dreaming aint it? I had fun dreaming that up. And no, there is very little aftermarket parts available as far as offroading goes, but there are plenty for the speed part of the Outback XT since its the sister of the Legacy GT.
  17. Yeah, local things like this make me not want to wheel on my everyday tires:
  18. Of course I did! It greatly improved the ride on the trail, but I still had a second tear on the old oturing tires, in that pic of the tripple tread flexing it was at 20 PSI. Didnt want to go any lower than that because I was alone and miles from any civilization. (Although, I did have cell service, go figure.) Anyone else put M/T's or swampers on a modern outback? I saw a forester on here that had done it, hmm.
  19. talked to a local Jeeper if he knew anything about the place, heres what he said: "Paragon is a very interesting place frequented by new wheelers and hardcore wheelers alike. They rate their trails GREEN (easy) BLUE (moderate to hard) Black (crazy hard) and Red (suicidal). I have never been. I have heard the green trails are very very easy, almost boring. I have heard the Blue are pretty tough if you do the "upper" Blues. I have heard horror stories about the Black and Red - my Jeep is probably up to doing mid-Blue trails if I ever went. I doubt I would ever do the Black or Red Trails. I hear it's a lot of fun and nobody who likes to wheel and doesn't mind risking some damage ever complains about it, says they love it and all go back. I have known a few who have gone, got more than they bargained for, and not only didn't go back but also quit the sport. Probably an over-reaction but Paragon has that love-it hate-it thing as best I can tell." At first It seemed like he had copy and pasted it from the site, but apparently if we do the blue we'll be doing great.
  20. It seems my idea has already been done, on a Jeep of course though. http://madxj.com/MADXJ/technical/technicalfiles/JJcustomSnorkle/CustomSnorkle.htm No reported problems whatso ever. I just have this fear of water I guess, I hydrolocked my first car by driving through a puddle that was too deep. The stock air box on my wagon has it on top of the radiator drawing in air, scares me a little bit.
  21. as soon as I get some 15 inch rims, anyone want to donate?
  22. Why do Arb snorkels put the air intake above the roofline? If you're THAT deep in water, are you really going to be worried about the engine? I was watching a Safelite worker install a new windshield today (mine cracked) and I noticed a huge opening in front of the windshield, above the firewall with a large opening, where the A/C sits. It seemed a cone filter would fit there easily. Why not put the air intake there? Its already well fed, and it seems like it would be plenty safe for water crossings, along with rain and weather. AND it doesent look too overdone. (sorry people with snorkels, just my opinion, and you know how that goes) I'll try to get some pics of what I'm thinking about.
