Wheel well fitting. I think this is going to be a non issue.

For 2000 Outbacks. After shredding my fist set of tires on the rocks here (it'll get jagged and rocky pretty fast sometimes) And getting some new touring tires (tripple treads), I've decided they simply arent up to the task for trail running. picture Solution? Get swampers. Dont seem like they'll rub too bad. Gonna dig out some 15's outta the junkyard, preferablly subie wheels, and get them mounted up and run them when I plan to go in the mountains. Or, I could go all out and get an onboard air compressor, and air jack, and carry an impact wrench, with the 4 tires in the back, get to the trail on my touring tires then switch them out at the trail opening. Yeah, right.

Well, round these parts we call it 'mud' The stuff on top of the mountains is usually redder from magic pixies and elves that live in the area.

Come to think of it, you're right, why flex if you're locked. and LosDiosDeVerde86 : Yes

hahahaha, I like getting picked on, espaically when I'm a ********************* and didnt make it clear what I meant. I meant to say scoobys are great on the trails (hence the hardcore trail rig comment, where flexing isnt required nearly as much as say rock crawling) (at least all the trails I've been on locally, I stay with the XJ's easily) but where we start to lose is when they 'flex' Other vehicles conform to the terrain, and we just sort of turn into tricycles (As you thouroughly pointed out) I couldnt imagine a scooby would do well on rocks, but it seems you've proved me wrong there also. Ah well, time to get some new tires for Lesbaru it seems. Also, I checked into that Subarubicon vid, any way to get it on google video or anything? Or did I just not search well enough.

So when do we start talking about all the other fun stuff? RTI, departure, breakover, and off camber goodness? I know mines still stock but that doesent mean I cant just scrape the plastic bumper off first

ton of bondo indeed! Nice to see someone attempt it though.

I'm going to try getting some more of this, maybe with my fellow XJ/Rubi owners. and I'm going to come up with a way to mount the camera lower and farther out. It was just ziptied to my mirror. The music is "The Unsung War" From the Ace Combat 05 Soundtrack.
-
I mounted it to the mirror. I'd like to get it a bit lower so you could see the wheel moving though. I used my Exilim camera, really nice little guy. Oh yeah, its also at 2X because at normal speed it was rather boring

Maybe not. It's of me and my completely stock OB wandering around. My "Offroad Tires" The Video itself, 9MB in size, WMV Codec Oh, and I think I could have made it up that incline at 1 minute into but no protection so didnt feel like risking it. Actually, thinking about it again. A better angle would have definately helped from my massive front end from scraping so badly.

why not throw in a second transfer case on the toyota dual range and yeah, hardcore trail machine is my idea of offroad, a flex monster Scoobys aint.
-
These are amazing figures, I've never figured mine up but I know my buds Rubi is like 45 degrees exactly. I'm running an (almost scraped completely off) stock front end though. t33h33

Here is a write up I figured you might be interested in: http://linaracing.com/impreza-h6-conversion-faq.cfm Cobb also is thinking of producing superchargers for the H6. http://www.cobbtuning.com/cobbtuned/ct_tribeca.html I cant find the turbo H6 in an impreza link though, I think it was made by perrin.

you should totally get a tranny cooler. And while you're at it, an oil cooler.

heh, no offense taken. but all my jeep buds prefer automatics? I'm also curious where you people drive, I dont doubt the trails are hard, I dont doubt my lesbaru couldnt make it. But in all the driving jeeps on the appalachian trails, an automatic in high range hasnt let me down. But yes, nothing extreme in my subie, I just hop in a friends jeep. *dusts off the flame suit since this is a subie board*

are you all even staying on the trails? or are you just sorta like... making it up as you go along?
-
I did take it on some ATV trails and ripped the stock touring tires to hell, (t33h33, rocks?) and I've talked my friend into giving me his M/T tires from his sammy, so I'm sure I'll just fix the next thing I find wrong with it. Because seriously, thats the only way you can know what you need to improve. Terrain might be a bit different here in the Appalachians though, because really the only trashing that happens to my wagon on atv trails though is trees dragging on it. but yeah, who said I was doing it in my lesbaru? It was just a thought for you guys to talk about.
-
ah, it was a thought I had because everyone seems to be doing low range swaps on here, and I was seeing if it was possible. Although personally, I've never NEEDED low range on a trail (other times yeah, but I've never been in a situation where a low range would have taken me out) Really I just used it to save the brakes when poking along in TJ and XJ's
-
So as a offroad rig we need the low range occaisonally (personally, I've never needed it, even in the silvy I drove for a while) but it seems several people have put in a dual range 5 speed in theirs. But here is a thought that seems like it would be just as much work, and probably lighter/easier in the long run. Some of the old FJ's didnt have a low range, just 1st gear was ultra low. Like, 5.0 + 1st gear. Why cant we do the same with our 4EAT, reprogram the TCU to start actually in 2nd, and alter it too so we could run in it if needed. So with the 4.444 diff and a 5+ or even 6.0 first gear ratio, we'd have a very respectable 25:1 crawl ratio. Idle up a mountain side. Or better yet, a 5EAT and switch off to matching ratios for the 4EAT, and not effect anything. Seems like a LOT of work, but it was just a thought I had that I didnt see had been discussed before. Thoughts?
