  1. Dude, I have Edelbrock stickers on all my soobs.... I did have an Edelbrock air cleaner on the Beast for a while, but it wont fit on the Weber cuz I dont have the round filter adaptor... Oh, I learned the hard way that you really want to take the sway bar completely off otherwise it will dangle and get in the way of your steering stuff, and still hinder your flex a bit. I got lazy though and just cut the ends off right by the mounts with a 6" cutoff wheel on a grinder -Bill

  3. I would take it as more of a novelty item, one of those its cool because its mine things, like most of my rigs, they arent really anything special, but I love them cuz they are mine That and sometimes its nice to have a closed cabin, especially in the winter -Bill

  5. I just ordered a set of 14" Series 61 Ultra wheels, the solid aluminum ones, for my RX, and I plan on going with a 235/60-14 or so tire, maybe something like that would be kinda up your alley? -Bill
  6. The suare driveline would be great for a purpose built off road rig, we use a similar set up to run the beaters on the grape harvesters at work, so i know they can take a beating... They might vibrate a bit at high speeds though, but for a flexy crawler, i think this might be the cheap/easy solution... Then you just need to get a double u joint or something made up for the wheel end of the axle, and and a single u joint would prolly suffice on the tranny end... Might have to fab steering stops to keep from shattering a U joint or blowing a tranny... -Bill
  7. It is a very nice Brat, when are you going to get a stripe kit on there? And I guess I cant really say anything about the lower profile tires, I just slapped a set of 186/60-13s on my RX... It would look good with a small lift just for novelty, like 2" or so, but it is your car and its a damn nice one -Bill
  8. The metal gasket is for the EGR dealio, as is the little one with the hole in the middle and I have no clue what the big loopy black one is, the upper right one is for a mpfi Turbo with the normal manifold, and the bottom 2 are for Spider intake manifold. -Bill
  9. This cold weather kit, it has the Block heater yes? If you have a couple of those, would you be willing to sell the block heaters alone? -Bill
  10. IIRC, there was a guy who swapped a EA D/R into his Forester... Basically it would be like an EJ swap but in reverse, you'd need to modify the trans crossmember, new driveshaft and matching rear diff, and adapter plate from SJR. As for axles, you can use FWD Impreza axles to mate to a regular 3.9 D/R box. Shifter linkage will have to be fabbed too. Its a lot of work, but it can be done, as a matter of fact SJR is about to do that swap into his Legacy off road car, so maybe talk to him, he is Scott in Bellingham on this board. -Bill

  13. Well, since I cant edit in the Off Road threads, here is a pic of the Turd as it sits right now, as I said earlier progress on it is on hold for a while. Being built to rule mudpits more than anything else, hence the outrageous ride height. Lots more to do to it, but its a start Back on topic, Mc's Brat is gonna kick rump roast. Would be awesome if it were to be at WCSS11 this year.... -Bill

  15. On an EA82 it will run like poo no matter warm or cold if one of the belts slipped a tooth. I do not believe this to be your problem. -Bill
  16. The rear seatw will be a direct bolt it, as long as they are both wagons. Loyals are just stripped down GLs with a hair more fancy than a DL. But the seats swap between them all. -Bill
  17. Coolant Temperature Sensor, it tells the ECU how hot the engine is and adjusts the fuel ratio and timing accordingly. At least thats what Ive been led to believe... Im a carb guy -Bill
  18. Yeah I have seen and hear of a few solid axle rigs, and I have an outlandishy tall solid axle DL wagon in the works, has GMC Jimmy axles under it, project is on hold for the moment though. And yes, it is the Turd wagon I am excited to see this Brat finished, the things I find special about it is that McBrat and his builder have kept it as low as possible while making it as flexy as possible, and beefed up everything that will bear any forces. It will be a thing of beauty -Bill
  19. Im pretty sure the exhaust routing is the same, but i could be wrong. The eaxhaust manifold (we call it the Y pipe) is the same. Should bolt in. -Bill

  21. Hey Brian, both those diffs are open, but if the one acts like an LSD, i bet it has one of those Phantom Grip mods done to it, or something is seriously wrong with it. Vlsd units are not good for offroad, they only engage after traction is lost and at higher speeds than crawling. Your best bet is to convert a 3.7 LSD unit to your 4.444 gears. -Bill
  22. Pretty sweet, but his LSD definition is wrong, RX LSD's had clutch pack LSD units, not VLSD units. Those came in later Impreza and Legacies. -Bill
  23. Your mechanic is ripping you off at that price. the belts cost 45 bucks for the pair, the tensioner can be had for not much as well. Im sure you can find a timing belt kit for way less than 270 bones. As was stated, EA82 motors are non-interference, so there will be no internal damage at all. As far as swapping an EA81 in there, I say do it, I did it, and I love it. About the same power, never have to worry about timing belts goin out at the wrong time, and its pretty simple swap. I used the EA82 clutch/pp/flywheel, I tried a EA81 flywheel but it was 1/4 inch too thick and the pressure plate would not fully engage the clutch. I used the stock ignition coil and everything, just extended the wires to the passenger side of the car to reach the disty. You can also use the EA82 intake manifold and the pipe that comes off the water pump to go to the heater from your car too and then youll only have to change 1 radiator hose to hook up the radiator. For power steering youd need a EA81 power steering pump and bracket, unless you rig up a custom mount for the stock one. I was too lazy, so I bypassed the lines on the steering rack and have been driving it without power steering. Its a workout turning 31" tires, but It doesnt even phase me at all anymore -Bill
  24. Subaru shouldve stuck with the U joint setup IMO, prolly woulda worked for the front on the DOJ side of the axles too. I cant imagine brakin one of those things unless you land on a pile of rebar and it goes through your ujoint. -Bill
