Rarest Old-School Subaru Part or Option?
Are those rare? I have one in my Brat, thought it was just about the most 80s japanese thing I ever did saw!

Steve's AWESOME Brat
Went into the shop today, then saturday we're doing the mechanical stuff. With a bit of luck I'll have it ready for the inspection around the middle of next week

To use an old cliche, a picture says a thousand words. Yuck.

But if I found a non-rusty ea-81 wagon I could use that, right? It's the front I'm looking for.

Haven't been posting in a while, the Brat's just been sitting. My GF is now in collision repair school and they might be able to fix it up as a project, but I've finally looked at what needs to be repaired and it's pretty bad. The whole area forward of the passenger front wheel is basically gone. Now, one of my customers has a dead EA82 loyale wagon that he's going to have crushed. Could we in theory cut out that whole section, or are they different?

Alternator Help.. for a 1987 Subaru Domingo van
Can you get me the part number for the one it's supposed to have? I might be able to cross it.

My issue is that we've spent $2000 to get this thing to my house from Alaska (including the cost of the car, new carb, ferry, etc) If I give up on it now the only option is the $50 I'll get at the steel recyclers. I don't mind putting in a few dozen/hundred hours work as long as it doesn't cost another grand, haha

If there's significant rust on the front end, do you think I'd be better off chopping the whole clip? Or just repairing the rusted sections?
-
Steve's AWESOME Brat
It's mostly the front left wheel area, rad support and rear right frame-tunnel-thing area I'm not too concerned about holes in the cabin floor, I can just chop out what I need to and weld in some sheet metal. I think I might have to invest in some gas before I tackle this tho

Unfortunately most anywhere is going to be the same. The one saving grace is that being in the PNW, it's really easy to find a rust-free EA81 wagon I can hack all the floor out of to put into the brat, I'm assuming for the most part it'll be similar/adaptable, if not the same.

Blargh.... Not doable. They apparently will scrape off anything that looks like fresh paint. So it needs to be done properly. Time to find a rust free parts car.

I haven't taken a close look at it, but it sounds like it needs some extensive work. I'm wondering about just tacking in a couple pieces over the rust holes and undercoating over them, then ripping them back off after to do a proper repair down the road... The issue is that I have to move in 3 weeks, and I'm trying to get my impreza wrapped up too.

Failed on account of rust. ************.

Turn key: click. Turn key: click. New starter, battery, cables. Still no start ???
Ignition switch. My brat does this too, and I know it's not the starter. Sometimes if you hold it in the 'start' position for like 5-6 seconds after it clicks it'll suddenly fire up.

hooked my starter up backwards
You get fusible fuse kits from auto supply stores, cut the included wire to the same length as the old fuse, crimp on the connectors and you're good to go. Sounds like you just grounded something out and fried it.

hooked my starter up backwards
I don't understand, if you just hooked the negative to the starter, nothing should happen at all. The starter grounds through the case. If you hooked up your BATTERY backwards... good luck. I've seen entire wiring harnesses turn into crispy kalamari from doing that. It can take out every sensor and relay in the entire car in some circumstances.

Drove the Brat to the inspection place this morning... feels a little weak. Probably needs the jetting looked at. They might be able to squeeze my inspection in for this afternoon, but it'll probably be monday... I hope it passes :s

So... she seems to be leak free! Taking it in for the first inspection tomorrow, then after it fails horribly, we'll go from there.

Wix 51361 Oil Filter Changing Sizes?
We're a wix dealer, and I've never come across wix changing a part without a corresponding change in part number. It's possible it was packaged wrong.

Steve's AWESOME Brat
It actually seems to have sealed decently, I might throw in another can for good measure though.
-
Steve's AWESOME Brat
I'm gonna let this stuff thats in there now set, fill it up with water again, mark any drips with a scribe, then use seal-all to patch the holes, then go another round with the tank sealer And yea, they're more like finishing nail holes than pin holes I suppose. Maybe up to a 1/16 in for the biggest. Probably around a dozen or so? Bleh. This sucks. I just want a new tank :-\

Steve's AWESOME Brat
I dunno how this stuff is supposed to work to seal pinholes... it's way too thin. Time will tell I suppose.
