  1. Hello, ? I have recently noticed a scratch sound from the rear brakes. It starts when the brakes are lightly applied and goes away after more pressure is put on them; moreover, it doesn't always do this, but, seven times out of ten uses it does. They have about 20k on the rear disks and at running my hands over them, both disks feel smooth. I am thinking it's time for new pads, but if anyone thinks differently, please post. Also, the car stops perfectly normal. Thanks in advance, John
  2. I got the Napa for my Forster; moreover, it has exceeded my expectations, over the past two years of use. For other items, I think Napa is way overated! But, their batteries are top notch. John
  3. Can I ask: Do you use them both in the fuel tank and air intake? Any chance these can break down in the Gas tank? Thanks, John
  4. A few little people, also broke in my car before its acquisition. I found that WD40 Works great to remove the gum and solidified soda, and Simple Green is wonderful for general cleaning. John
  5. Indeed, That's a respectable amount of miles on Them! I hope mine last as long. John
  6. A new gas cap cured my PO440 CEL. If that does't do it, I would check under the wheel well and look for rust/cracks along the gas filler tube. John
  7. This is exactly right! The stop leak is not "Goopy", and it had no ill effects on my cooling system for the 6 years it was used. The heater, still bakes a person out.
  8. Subaru might sell a kit with all the Valve cover gaskets/ gromets included. At least, they do for my Forester. I haven't been too impressed with Napa lately. The plug wires they sold me (cost more than OEM) and failed in only a year.I would definately comparison shop.
  9. I say go with the CCR 2.5. You are fortunate to live so close to them. I am positive the 2.2 is a better engine, but I like the extra horse Power of the 2.5. just my 2 cents Ps. Congratulations on your mileage. Still very respectable, in this age of 100K designed cars.
  10. I took my rear panel off in the Summer, but it was easy. I removed the the holding clips, and poof it was off. I insulated the door, and putting it back together was as easy as taking it apart.
  11. Having only two would effectively change the tire size, front/back. I say go with all four or none:burnout: John
  12. And they wouldnt dare say that a new Cobra or Z06 was pricey and despised by insurers. They would be fools to do so! Because, the domestic auto makers pay heavily for their adveritisements. At least, last time I looked at that journal.
  13. SOHC, than you have the newer, more advanced model. Frequently when I order parts, this Model is listed under the '99-'2002 parts reference guide.
  14. I have the same year Forester myself: You might want to doudle check the engine, as Subaru made a midyear change to this year Forester (some times I have gotten the wrong parts because of this). I love mine and its 2.5 engine, but, admittedly I am now somewhere in the neighborhood of 9K to the engine alone: having to be rebuilt due to rod knock, new injectors and sensors up the whazoo. It really does run like a new one, but without the added car payment, insurance, and title fees. Yours will likely, if the head gaskets haven't been replaced, require the Subaru Coolant Sealant to the radiator (when changed). I used it with no problems whatsoever. And mine never did have the infamous gasket problem, even at 135K when it was rebuilt. Others here report problems with the wheel bearings, however, mine are still excelent with 150K now on them. The alingment though, is a real pain, the mechanics complain each time its performed-" hard to aling, has it been in a bad accident?" which it has not. I found that Mine was rather noisy, but after installing sound insullation to the interior panels and fire wall it is now pretty sedate. I also find here in the Midwest, it hard to find shops that want to work on Subarus. After a lot searching I have finally got this nailed down. Oh and the Subaru dealer, I don't even talk about that place. One more thing, if you don't know the last time it was performed I recommend changing the tranny fluid, to keep it nice and torque bind free.
  15. Find another (closer)'04 to test drive. BTW: Shiny black is very attractive, but keep in mind it will be much hotter inside/out during the summer!
  16. I think it is normal. Mine has always been this way, and it is fairly cheap to change once a year. Being dirty, is I think, how it was designed to get. John
  17. My '99 Forester (2.5sohc)went 139K on its headgaskets, though had to be rebuilt for other issues.
  18. You might consider a reputable glass shop. My friend just had her outbacks replaced(non heated) for about $60.00 installed, for one,
  19. My'99 (Sohc) went 143K without the notorious head gasket issue. However, the deep rod knock was so anoying (I tried everything to correct it), I had it rebuilt. Since then, yea its been bullet proof. I like the power output of this non turbo engine.
  20. I never said anything of the sort; The Honda is rated #1 and I pointed that out..
