one of the belts wernt tight enough so we tighten it, both are still right on. My coolant temp sensor is pretty corroded but i havent got the plug for it to replace yet, and im betting all that coolant under the hood made it worse. But im gonne check vacuum lines, cause its acting like its got a dead spot from idle up to about 2400 rpms and it takes off. -

ok it turned out the Water pump gasket actually blew out! its fixed now, i took the a/c compressor out and the water pump was a breeze and i got the gasket on correctly. but now the things wants to overheat and is gutless as hell, i musta did somthing to the timing cause i tried to tighten the slack -
Ditch the timing belt covers!!!!

alright, so you dont think my water pump or gasket blew. I will take off the a/c compressor and check it all out, what other hoses are in that vicinity, i dont have a carb, but does it still have those hoses? -

ok i have a confession, it wasnt 4k, it was me testing how well the brakes worked, and my foot slipped off the pedal abit and hit the gas abit and it free revved to almost 7k....im so embarressed by that, but i should probably tell you guys since your trying to help. I just got a new muffler and didnt hear it alls i saw was the tach his nearly 7k for just a couple seconds and smoke start pouring from under the hood. omg i feel so dumb, i let off and shut the car off right away Also i just got a brand new radiator cap, it was a 13lb one, is that way to much? it might have somthing to do with it if the goofs gave me the wrong one -

it was a light gray, labled "water pump and thermostat gasket sealer" -

i did use RTV, it was awful to get the gasket to stay on and line up and it took me like 45 minutes, i shoulda removed the A/C bracket like your suppose to instead of fighting it. COuld the gasker blowing out cause this big of a leak? i didnt know paper gaskets could blow out, lol -

less than 100 miles on the pump. i looked and the line coming off the top of the pump was NOT blown off, it seemed dry. the upper weep hole has coolant puddled next to it and theres coolant really all over that area -

for the last 3 days iv been driving it not a single leak or loss of any fluids. -
I was driving along, and i was accelerating and hit about 4k and all of a sudden steam comes pouring out from under my hood. I stopped immeadiatly and had a rush of coolant pouring out from under my car. i lost it all. Its all centerd around the water pump area, what the hell happend?????? did my new water pump catisrophicly fail!?? No overheat, the gauge was at 1/2
-
uh oh, that could be it, wouldnt that trigger a Charge light? or no? I notive my voltage gauge wont go any higher than 12
-
so how do you guys clean the connectors?
-
Umm is the 4wd light suppose to go off when not in 4wd. when out of 4WD its just a dim lighting of the 4wd thing, and when reved up somtimes it goes almost off but not quite. and when put into 4wd it lights up bright, but for some reason the LO light doesnt go on when its in low, unless u pull up on the lever further, it flickers or comes on, but when u stop pulling up on it and let it go into its free rest position in LO the light goesoff, but im pretty sure it is in LO even tho the lights not on but the levers in lo. this is a 86 rx 4WD D/R
-
ok its defintly the Coolant temp sensor, i unplugged it and the idle went normal, but threw an ECS light. THe connectors are both really corroded, how do i clean such small connectors, especially the female side
-
Ok, when i first start it when it hasnt been ran all night or all day, it idles fairly high and normal, about 1800 rpms, somtimes it will sky rocket to 2800 but not often. But almost everytime it gets warmed up and idles its like barley hanging on at about 300-400 rpms. Its terrible, but wierd thing is, somtimes when you drive it around abit it doesnt do it anymore, but will randomly come back. i was thinking the idle air control thing, but i cant find it, alls i see is a diaphragm on the front of the throttle body, how are you suppose to get to it, a picture would be awsome, i really need to solve this. And where exactly is the coolant temp sensor for the ECU, i see one coming off the Thermostat housing with a black connector too it, im not sure if thats it or not

Wet stuff in rocker covers....
Prospeeder replied to Ross's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
if you do alot of city driving that can be normal. If its alot..everywhere like on the dipstick, head gaskets. I am aware manifold gaskets only go into the combustion chamber -
I have been looking around my RX i recently bought, and its alot rustier than i thought. Its got alot of surface rust on little parts where rocks have hit the paint. And theres spots on the front of the rear fenders that are almost holes about the size of a 5 cent peice. And one spot in the trunk in the corner where fuel lines and what not run where theres actually a small hole!! Along with cancer right behind the rear wheels Im not sure what to do! I plan on doing some major body work this spring as a learning experience, because i have 2 cars, a summer and winter car. So ill have plenty of time to bring it off the road. So what do i use, and some tips and all that, and replacment of the rear lower quarter panel, i saw some write up where a guy with his wagon used sheet metal he bent and stuff and bondoed it on and it turned out really good
