EA81T - Ticking Motor
I've had knocking motors last for over a year with easy driving. So you should be able to prolong it's life for a while, since it's just starting.

EA81T - Ticking Motor
Eh... Yeah thats probably not a good thing. So if it is a rod knock, will you up the boost?

blast from the past
Did you use a base/clear paint or nason?

I've got questions!
86BRATMAN replied to kimokalihi's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWell your other 90 sounds like it needs a throwout bearing. IF I could find the key to my donor legacy, also a 90 model, I'd hook you up with a full matched set.

Grinding noise when in gear
I'd check the adjustment of the clutch, loosen it up a bit. Just in case the throw out bearing is rubbing the pressure plate, and go from there.

Grinding noise when in gear
Could be a throw out bearing, or sometimes called the release bearing. Or possibly the bearing on the imput shaft where it goes into the tranny itself. Does it have any other sympons or just noisy?

EA81T - Ticking Motor
Does it have a high or low pitch to the sound? Have you stood outside, under the hood to try and localize the noise? Mt t-leg is doing about the same thing, and its crapped out hla's, we'll hope yours is the same.

'84 Resurrection Update
I must agree with the samuri's cleaner look under a subie body. Jerry's hatch is a great exaple of that. Now if you wanna talk about messy, about 15 years or so ago there was a gen1 Brat around here that had been grafted onto a Bronco II Frame.

86BRATMAN replied to msmithmmx's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI've seen "jdm" ej25 dohc like we have here listed on ebay for a while.

Paint for teh wagon?
There are some good camo jobs done here on some of the cars. Just search the gallery and forums. You'll get some good ideas of what it can look like.

Performance mods
For either use, street or offroad. Your best bet dollar for dollar for more power, potential, and reliablity is an ej swap. The 90-94 ej22e can handle a decent amount of boost even in stock non-turbo state. And has a non-interference design. Doesn't have headgasket issues, makes enough torque to spin the tires in 3rd with bigger tires at a 25mph roll. Honestly, you can find a good running gen1 legacy manual for dirt cheap, my donor car cost $250, and gave me a few years of service before the rust got to it too bad. You could even use it to convert your ea82 car to awd. The ej motors possibilities are almost limitless. The ea81 and ea82 are well very limited in aftermarket support, and are just simply out dated for many reasons.

scorpion springs where to buy?
86BRATMAN replied to cvincent's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWhat car are you looking for the springs for. If you have a regular legacy of impreza, a set of outback/forrest springs will lift it up about 2 inches.

your keys
You stole my line....

your keys
i already called them...

Performance mods
$7995 for the ea81 performer engine. Hell you could do a full ej20g swap(motor, trans, and all) for half that, and have the other half to make your 400hp.

impreza 08, from where?
86BRATMAN replied to eastwestboy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYep, as are most all Subaru's since the early 90's. In Lafyette(sp?) Indiana.

A JDM Conversion
86BRATMAN replied to msmithmmx's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIf Subaru holds to form, it will bolt into place perfect, and run off of your existing harness, using your sensors of course. I'm not sure you'd really be gaining anything from a jdm ej25 though. To my knowledge they are the exact same motors.

EJ22 roller rocker swap
86BRATMAN replied to 86BRATMAN's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI haven't looked at the non roller heads yet. But the whole assembly from the roller head unbolts with 6 10mm bolts, bringing the rollers and HLA's out together, I figured just putting that all over onto the other head as one piece. I'll be having it apart anyways, doing a complete reseal/head gasket/ t-belt job before it goes on the road. As well as a few other "little" things...

EJ22 roller rocker swap
I've got a set of 95 EJ22 heads, and I've been looking into swapping the roller rocker assyemblies into the head on my 91 turbo. Anybody else done this before?

4x140 wheel spec's
I shipped an ea81 wagon wheel to another board member a while back. The weight of the wheel was 17lbs, iirc.

Right hand drive '92 Legacy wagon - only $5k!
86BRATMAN replied to ShakotanBoogie's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThat thing is in good condition for a mail carrier as well. I have seen some gen2 legacy mail cars on ebay beaten to crap go for that much.

Legacy heater hose help
86BRATMAN replied to Hondasucks's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI don't think using an unformed hose would be a big deal, as long as it doesn't make any kinks in it or anything.
