Spring specs?
The Eibach's were probably also for the gc impreza. The front impreza strut and spring will work great, the rear springs for the 3rd gen legacy(00-04) are just about the perfect size for the rear.

Legacy tranny - How many miles B4 failure?
86BRATMAN replied to Max Power's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXMom's 98 legacy 2.2 has 172K on the original trans, its getting delayed shifts and some other stumbling. But nothing drastic. Regular fluid changes, and general upkeep are the way to go. The worst that can happen is usually torque bind, but there are simple solutions to that as well.

Why would cylinder #1 and #4 be low on compression?
Same way as you would in the car. Just use a ratchet and socket to turn the crank pulley. It may not give the same numbers. But usually you are looking for more consistancy across the whole engine instead of high numbers.

4wd shift linkage and tranny problems
Yep, in my younger days I wasn't as careful when I popped it in and out of 4wd. If the wheels are turned it can, and usually does cause them to be a pain to get disengaged. If it gives you trouble, try what he said, loose gravel, or stop back up a bit, and make sure the wheels are straight. Also, what kind of speed are you running in 4lo when it pops out?

Why would cylinder #1 and #4 be low on compression?
Well, a number of things can contribute to low conpression numbers. Head gasket failure, bad rings, cracked or worn valve seats, bent valves(non realistic on an ea82), and the most common problem with the usual compression check is human error.

$315 CV Boot Cover Replacement for Legacy???
86BRATMAN replied to daehttub2000's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI've replaced the front driver side axle on my mom's 98 legacy L late last year, it now has weird vibration that developed about a month or so ago. It does it pretty regular at highway speed, about 60 mph around here. If I had it to do over I would have done some research first.

Engine swap?
86BRATMAN replied to Tom Dunn's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI'd say go for it, it is a pretty big job, but nothing that can't be done in a weekend providing you do all your homework, and preparation first. Do a little reasearch in the retrofitting section. There are people on the board that make/ prep just about everything you'd need but the mechanical ability. ShawnW and noah88dl provide the wiring prep service. 88hatchmonster makes the adapter plates to bolt the motor to the ea series trans. SJR is offering reground ea82 flywheels to ej bolt pattern. Don't discount the 88 just yet. Check it out and see what shape it is in, and how everything else seems to be. The motor is the least of the worries on the east coast.

did anyone here buy this
I always set my max bid pretty high, at least as high as I am willing to pay for what I'm bidding on.

EJ22 Brat Swap, couple questions for those who have done it
Some of the ea82t guys have had some custom clutches made. That might be a route of interest for you to check out.

EJ22 Brat Swap, couple questions for those who have done it
Non of that stuff got in the way for me. I've had to abandon the Brat altogether because of substanially more rust than I thought I'd be dealing with. But I had the ej22 motor and trans mounted up in the bay for asome time. With full intake and all on it, and the washer tank wasn't a problem, nor the hill holder unit. The biggest issue, whih isn't hard to remidy, with fitment is the battery placement. You can either move the battery to the drivers side or flip the ej intake pipe upside down and run it to the drivers side of the bay, Like 88Hatchmonster did.

SPFI - How fast?
The ea82 2wd 5mt has a final drive of 3.4** oppossed to the 4wd non turbo's 3.90. I've had my brat up to well past the 85 mark on the speedo, had a guy pacing me saying it was about 105. I've never had an ea82 so, no input there.

Legacy vs Impreza: the age-old generic question
86BRATMAN replied to subie_newbie's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXA guy on one of my local forums has an 02-03 bug eye, mild upgrades, nothing real special. He's broken his transmission a confirmed 5 times over two years. I agree that driving has the most to do with the issues. As many times people are just plain careless. But I would rather warn accordingly than say nothing, because you never know what one's been through before you get it, unless its new.

Want to lower my 2005 Baja Sport
86BRATMAN replied to buddyatlga's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIIRC the BAJA sits on the same springs as the outback. Using legacy struts with a set of lowering springs would take care of the job nicely. The outback has a higher spring perch than normal legacy. And slightly longer springs. Many people on the board have used either outback or forrester strut/spring combo's to raise impreza and legacy vehicles. SO the opposite should hold true. Good luck and post up some pics when you get it done.

'86 Brat Fuel Sender
He's probably given you one for a STD hatch, both of mine only have one wire coming off it. My 86 brat has two.

- Legacy vs Impreza: the age-old generic question
86BRATMAN replied to subie_newbie's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXMy 90 ls wagon was a peppy little(not really) runner. Ej22, 4.11 5mt, and stock 14" alloys. It pissed off more than a few ricers. If you can get 14's over your brakes, you'd notice a difference because of reducing the rotating mass. Any and all rotating mass you can remove without damaging reliability/driveability will make a difference in power transfer and gas mileage.- Legacy vs Impreza: the age-old generic question
86BRATMAN replied to subie_newbie's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXNot true. The transmissions in the early ones are made like toothpicks. Get to upgrading and "driving spirited" and they break, well, like toothpicks.- Cosworth CS600 series High Performance Subaru EJ25 long block?
86BRATMAN replied to porcupine73's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWell thats not very impressive. I know two people from a local forum putting down 495 and 520 awhp respectively on stock internalled STi's, with the proper support. - Legacy vs Impreza: the age-old generic question
