  1. 186,000 and it sat close to a year with bad timing belts before I got it about 2 months ago I'd look for a low mile engine too, but I am buying the EJ25 in june. the annual XT dragon meet is also in june. so I guess I'll do the intake now. and if it doesn't fix it, I'll be blowing her up on the dragon... lol.
  2. I checked the dipstick and the oil is lighter brown and kind of thin. intake leak shouldn't show up on a compression test. head leak most likely would. (I think) oh and I did use coolant the first time. but it is pricey.... so now I've been using water...
  3. hmm all of sedels current wheels are ugly,......
  4. I need one in my box as I am learning to make myself a body guy!
  5. oh.. top off your radiator. I was down almost a third of a gallon
  6. what would matter is if you had a carb. see opening the throttle causes the computer to pump in less fuel it's a mode for clearing a flooded cylinder with coolant in the combustion chamber it's flooded... apparently the lesser fuel allows the car to start. I had a coolant smell for sure once right after a cold start. but I only noticed it once. if I am right you should have a ticking lifter next. see, I also think I have a little coolant in the oil. I only assume this though, because the level went up inspite of an oil leak.
  7. that's exactly what I was referring to.. no start. no start push pedal and start. we have the same issue. now we have to decide what it is. are you MPFI??
  8. between the valves is a very common crack and I have read several times that they don't really hurt anything. but a lot of people fix them.
  9. I have this too. I am beginning to believe it is a head gasket or an intake gasket but I am not smoking.... do you also have the hard start when cold?
  10. I don't think we have a "body store" either....... examples? all I know that we have are the standard auto parts stores o' crappys Auto Chrones adcrack autoparts and Nappy lol
  11. man I need an air compressor.... I miss out on so many great tools/
  12. yes I have based most of my knowledge of the axle assembies off the inner construction of the axles as I have yet to tear into any hub/spindle set-ups thank you!
  13. edit. I am trying to be a nicer guy!
  14. the XTs in question all have a cup/bearing/boot setup... what about that isn't a CV joint? you may have a different word for it... thank you for the info that they are different though.
  15. the FWD is fine for now and will be left alone till after the XT dragon meet. but I may use the part time trans for RWD when the EJ25 goes in... maybe. thanks for the info Gary!
  16. maybe I'll get some better answers if I put it on out there. I have an 86 FWD and an 85 turbo part time 4wd turbo Was going to use the rear end drive shaft and tranny from the part time car locked in 4wd but with no front axles. but the axles on the 4WD car are ALL toast. so I was wondering if my FWD axles will work with the rear diff and suspension.
  17. ^^ lol no I do know that all of them use CV joints at both ends....... NEXT!
  18. see it old you it was stupid.. I was wondering if my fwd front axles could be used on a 4wd rear assembly IE are my FWD front axles the same as Rear axles.
  19. I have an 86 XT 4 banger FWD are front and rear EA non turbo axles the same?
  20. why complicate it and make it cost more? just use the parts at hand. axles are not very scary...
  21. sweet......... do it man!
  22. I missed the drive train part of the statement. if you used a standard EJ tranny it wouldn't be too very hard mechanically (on the wiring I am the loser and have no clue) getting the engine into the bay wouldn't be much harder than any EJ swap......... (especially if your car is already turbo with the proper cross member)
  23. seriously I am sure for less than a grand you can find a wrecked SVX (heck there was one for sale in Tennessee for 500 bucks when I boiught my XT it was option two..... needed a new engine Kmember) I'd like to see a new gen turbo in an XT. (JDM legacy twin turbo motors are CHEAP since they don't directly swap into a LHD car. but one could always use one STi turbo on one)
