XT engine in a 89 GL10 possible?
archemitis replied to jazzician's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
you guys are all confusing me. turbo computers and na computers for the mpfi are the same! if you dont have a turbo already all you gotta do is drop the whole turbo motor into your mpfi/na car and put everything in. wiring and computer are the same. xts are no different than any other mpfi ea82. if your talkin the er27 in the xt6... it'd fit into an ea82 car with a little fab work, but it bolts right in, just like stock. -
1k is outrageous, even for a dealer! if its not leaking, you might have some luck blowing compressed air, or water into it.
-
i think itd be an easy install. the only thing that will be holding me back on this one will be cash. till they are 15 years old, i wont be able to afford one... er27s and 2.2 are old =]
-
fuel management is not stopping anyone from turboing an er27. they should handle stock boost, the way they sit. rising rate fpr will fix higher boost problems. and 9.5:1 is what id want for a turbo. there are turbo cars with 11:1 compression runing 14 lbs of boost. its all about tuning =] and the high comp with the turbo would make for some mean low end, and top end power.
-
your dad might jsut be driving it wrong... if you know what i mean. the turbo car needs to get into boost before it makes power. the celica... in 85 i htink they were efi 22r engines. 2.2 in line. cast iron block. they made at least 100 hp with no turbo. so its gonna have more low end torq, and have more power where most peepl drive. rev her high, and you will prolly beat that celica. my gfs, 92 celica would almost keep up with my xt6.

i got 30 mpg out of the fastest 1.8 na i have ever driven. and it was filled with poeple and gear. theres something about getting everything right, it equals performance, and economy.

the xt6 stock clutch has bigger harder springs than the regular ea82 clutches, to make the big motor less jaring. id want a solid core, but it would engage alot harder and more sudden. the springs make it smoother when you engage it. 7/8 is the 2wd and ea81 4x stuff. 1 inch is ea82 4x and xt6 =]

are you asking if it matters which hose goes on which pipe? it doesnt matter, you just hook them up =] -
i was hopin youd chime in since you currently own a couple of each. thats good info. thanks
-
i bet you if you called centerforce they have a listing for the 4x subarus. it doesnt make sence to only support the wussy version of the subarus =]
-
maybe two transfer cases

i would only want it right behind the cab. one:its the safest spot to be protected from an impact. 2: center of gravity. it would feel wierd driving it if you had 200lbs hanging out past the rear wheels. and it would mess with your front end traction, as less weight would be on your front wheels. other than that, plumbing it would be easy. with our inline stock fuel pumps it makes it easy. also stick your pump in the bed, to protect it from offroading.
-
front wheel drive has a small splined tranny. and the 2x clutch wont fit on your 4x tranny. the xt6 and 4x ea82 series trannies have the same spline, and the same diameter clutch disc. so ea82 and er27 fitment is the same. also the 2x is 7 7/8 instead of 8 7/8 diameter disc

will an xt6 throttle cable fit onto my ea81 car? i know the piece that goes into the throttle rocker are the same size... anyone know if its the same down at the pedal?
-
i actualy love my 4speed dual range. thats why its sittin behind my xt6 engine right now. its the smoothest nicest subaru tranny i have ever driven, and its got 200k on it. every ea82 tranny i have driven grinds into gears and hates shifting realy fast. just me.
-
i run a 180 thermostat right now, and im in minnesota. my heats hot.
-
centerforce is good stuff. only clutch that would hold in my 4runner. those 500$ clutches... are they a puck type? i wouldnt mind a 5 puck. =]

your not supposed to run around town with seafoam in the oil, it thins it out. ;put it in before an oil change, follow the directions =] mmo is an addative that you leave in.

there is something nobody wants to think about because it means alot of work.... hlas do collapse and can fail. sometimes a new/different one is the only fix.
-
well, i'll never get to test this out. i stuck a legacy radiator up there after alot of cutting.
-
just a thought, i have driven everything before the svx, and after 81, but never an rx. how much slower are they than an xt6, not much? alot? im talkin mostly stock. thanks
-
ah, that makes me feel good =]. i'll have to see how the 4 speed works. i had planned on turboing it with a 5 speed, but i have to be out of my garage by the first of the year, so i kinda just gotta get it runin. seems like the standard ea mounts will work. im runin the big squishy rubber ones. i think im gonna solid mount it after i build the front motor mount.
