ER27 in an EA82 car, can it be done?
archemitis replied to All_talk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yes, and it has been done. different radiator position solves all the problems, and creates new ones =]! -

change your timing belts on time, and keep a good radiator with good airflow, and they will last just as long as an ea81. peepl always let the belts go for way too long, then get pissed when they break. and if the radiators are bad they will slowly roast till one day the head will crack or at least a gasket will go. i guess they are more prone to lifter tick, but again, thats usually from poor maintenance. 10 more hp at least! and with a high compression, its over that. and add efi and a turbo! go go go -
What swaps in place of ea81...??
archemitis replied to vwbuge's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
ea82, there is no wiring to do, other than lengthening a couple. all the guages, work like stock, with the ea82 stuff. thats the easiest hp upgrade. get the spfi block, because it has high compression. you can use your ea81 intake and make it reel easy, or swap on the larger ea82, with the carb. fun fun, fits toghether with no problems. if your car already has the large flywheel, it will bolt right on to the tranny, with some driling of bolts, or you can use the big ea82 flywheel. -
go buy the biggest cone drop in filter for a diesel you can find, then cut out a piece of sheet metal to mount it to the maf, i guess there are adapters, that work. bigger is better, you can hear you intake, and it flows alot more. the airbox mod works too, you can just drill holes in the bottom of the box. for more air, then use a drop in. im workin on a snorkel with 2 inch piping right now for my hatch.

POLL: Where do you shift
archemitis replied to subiemech85's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
with my mpfi it doesnt seem to make much power till 2500, then screams up to about 4500, so i usually shift at 5k on the highway, or reely high spinnin tires and slidin sideways. they can take it! give it to them! thats what 4 cyclinders are for. -
and just so you know, i have been runing on a totally shot one, for 2k now. it pops, and grinds, and clicks, even goin straight. my iner joint is the part that is bad.
-
after about the third one, i prolly would have looked at junkyard ones, or a different rebuilder!?! you arent ruining them, you are just buying crappily rebuilt ones, that are no better than a broken junkyard one.

heavy clutch problem, leone gl-5 fwd
archemitis replied to andrewvan's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i used to think my heavy clutch was normal, till i started buying way too many subarus. now it seems that when your clutch gets very heavy, it means the cable is at fault, and may break soon! mine has been heavy as hell, for 20k miles without breaking, but i guess its coming eventually -
take the two wheel tranny and put the motor where the rear seats were, and have a mid rear 2wd hatch!
-
this is one of those what if threads, like twin turbo subarus, and 200 hp ea81s. what if i crapped a supra motor into my hatch? what if? what if....
-
found it, part number 2p74028 tru-flow, made in usa(but thats not necessecarily bad) good stuff, has worked for a while, and should even be an upgrade, with more gph and flow than stock

go get a 35 dollar one from napa. tell em it fits a ford under the hood, and its about the size of a coil. if they try and sell you the 90 buck one, tell em to keeep looking. 90 lbs 50gallon/minute fits in stock location with zip ties, works great!

putting EJ22 into the 86 wagon
archemitis replied to The Scooby's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
is there now some magical wiring fix to make this swap a piece of cake? and building an adapter, and doin it in a month? you aint gonna have power steering, let alone ac. just speaking from experience, not tryin to talk you out of it -
i got em both, and the ea82 is a bit smaller, and different mounting flanges. bigger turbos rule! it will lag a bit more, but give you lots MORE COOLER air. im workin on a high comp lower end, with a legacy turbo, fmic, with stock boost. high comp to get you off the line, and big turbo for power past 3k and maybe gd learned something since that last post, because a hybrid turbo will spool up lots faster than the larger turbo alone
-
ya, autos are the only thing to get worried about towing flat. you should be cool with all 4 down, with a manual.
-
if its on all fours, you shouldnt have to disconnect anything. with a tow strap, at about 35 and above you dont even have to ride the brakes to keep slack, works better than i thought. 2 hours of it is pretty nerve racking though =]

i was in texas for two days last week(thats why i didnt try to meet up with any subaru kids down there) and a friend of mine runs a turbo 300z with a big fat fmic. he was loosing to my brothers srt4 till he took his bumper off, and all of the sudden it made just enough difference to beat him. so... i bet ANYTHING you can do helps. especially in texas where every other car is a mustang.

hey miles, or anyone who has actually tried. i got ea82 turbo parts for my hatchback with the ea82. im wondering if i am going to have to grind/sawsall my existing ea81 crossmember, and if so where. im guessing the crossover pipe will fit between it and the head, is the downpipe, the problem?

a fix for fuel cut?
archemitis replied to subaru_styles's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
id like to see the ratio hes using for the rising rate fuel pressure regulator -
i dont even know why im running the damn thing, other than its chrome, and new. everybody just biches about them, but coils go out all the time, thats why they stock them at the parts store. has anybody ever put one on and gone, damn, my car pulls harder? or damn, it straight fixed my high load pinging? didnt think so. maybe the stock one works good, i got a spare under my seat.
