  1. Your shimmy sound very much like bad front axle joints. How do they look. Are the boots torn and no grease left? Hope this helps.
  2. I wave my middle finger in the general direction of the stuffy people who give snotty looks at old subs. I take my brat to the dealership and make the unfriendly/unhelpful schmuck at the counter look up part numbers when ever I need them. He generally huffs something like "Our computer doesn't go back that far." I always inform him that it does and he generally gets me the number, and a rediculous price for the part I need. I say keep the sub and fix it up! Old subarus that have lasted this long deserve it!
  3. The wire that goes to my valve broke and my car would not idle after this. I pulled the needle out and it ran better. I went to pick n pull and got another one and spliced the wire to my harness and everything was back to normal.
  4. Your car looks great. I just put destination a/t's on my brat. I love those tires. Super quiet and they do great in the snow.
  5. I bought an aftermarket y pipe with cat for about $165 on line, but it was a pos and the muffler shop had to cut and weld to get it to fit properly. I had exhaust leak issues for a month after it was installed. I cant remember the place I bought it from but if I find the receipt I'll post who it was. good luck
  6. Right on! Those wheels look great. I dig the lights on the hood. Are they functioning blinkers or just marker lights?
  7. Hey did you change the filter too? We're you on level ground? I would trust the dip stick. The last time I changed my oil and filter was about two weeks ago and I used a one gallon container of oil and it filled it perfectly. I drained the oil at the pan until it was just barely dripping and at the filter until it wasn't dripping at all. What does the oil pressure read? Good luck! age,s 5 37 37 kid-mama dada. work----car,s-playing-writing. My kid got at the computer while I was on the phone!
  8. Hello all: I've got an 84 brat and I believe my torsion bars are sagging. My ground clearance is too low in the back and I've cranked the adjuster bolt clockwise all the way. I am considering going to pick and pull to get some used torsion bars. My question is how can you tell if a torsion bar is good or not. I can't check the ground clearance because all the cars at the yard are off the ground. I've found new ones online for about $100/ side. I'm also wondering if maybe a previous owner tried to lower my brat by re-clocking the trailing arms. Has anyone done this to lower their car and if so what were the results. I may try moving mine up by one tooth first before I go spend $. Any suggestions appreciated. Daniel
  9. Mine clunks in the front and I found it to be the front sway bar bushing on the passenger side.
  10. Thanks. I made the bumper from a ten foot piece of 4"x6" 3/16" wall tubing. I still had the brain cells that stored the high school math and was able to get the angles cut right and it all came together.
  11. Thanks! The drivers side is still rubbing a bit. I think my spring pre load adjusters are set at the lowest setting, so I think I'll try turning them up a bit before I bash any more on the firewall. Hey Brian did I see that you needed some 93 legacy parts? I have a donor car if you need any parts either pm me or call me at 510-734-5327. Maybe we can work out a trade or partial trade for those wheels.
  12. So the tires I wanted didn't come in 215 70 15 so I got 215 75 15 instead. They rubbed alot so I had to do some bashing on the firewall. So for future reference 27" tires didn't fit under a 4/3 lift without a little persuasion. The back lower corners of the front fenders were rusty anyway, so I didn't feel too bad taking a bfh to the brat, and I'm happy with the out come. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/data/500/medium/Picture_026.jpg
  13. I'm not sure which tube you're talking about, but in general there are often tubes like this to catch condensation and route it out of the cabin and on to the ground. If this is the tube you're talking about it probably goes through the fire wall and ends in the engine compartment where the condensation can drip on to the ground. Hope this helps.
  14. After months of searching I finally found 15" aluminum pugs. A local guy was going to junk his 505 and I traded him some beat steel pugs and $50 for these! I'm now looking for tire size recommendations. I have a 4/3 lift on the brat and I'm thinking about going with 215 70 15 Firestone destination a/t's. I run this brand of tire on my rover and they are quiet and did really impressively well in the snow last year. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated. Thanks. 15. Hey S'ko: Right on man!!!!!!!!!! You are my new motivator!! I hadn't heard of anyone in California passing the ref with an ej swap. Now I'm motivated. Thanks! Daniel
  16. Hey S'ko: I like the new paint idea! Did you pass smog yet? Daniel
  17. There is an 82 brat at the pnp in Richmond, ca. There are a few gen 2 in the Fairfield pnp. Good Luck. Daniel
  18. It looks really great! Where did you get the bra? I want one! More lights good!
  19. Hey all: Spent thurs thru sunday up in the sierras with some friends, my kid, and the brat! We had a blast and the brat did great despite the fact that I have crappy snow tires on it still. We were north of Yuba Gap near Faucherie Lake. Tons of off roading that was fun, yet mild enough for me to feel comfortable taking my 4 year old along for the ride. I managed to tear a cv boot and the wire that activated the choke on my hitachi carb broke which made the choke come on and made the brat not idle. I limped back to camp, figured out what was wrong, pulled out the little plunger and was as good as new. I wish I had gotten more pics, but it was too much fun to stop and take pics. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/data/500/medium/Picture_0011.jpg
  20. I could get a pic of it but its in pieces awaiting 5speed conversion and me to reseal all the leaks on the engine. The brat upgrading has taken priority.
  21. Hey all: I pulled the driving lights off my "soon to be sold" bmw 2002. They look better on the brat anywho! I found an 81 or 82 wagon at jy with factory fog lights. I snagged the switch and used it for these lights. It fit right in the plugged hole on my lower console (of course it did). God I love subarus. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/data/500/medium/Picture_0032.jpg
  22. I'm not sure either, but if the exhaust is backfiring under the conditions stated above you might have a lean fuel mixture. Good luck. Daniel
  23. Hey Jerry: I wish I could make it this year. Maybe next year. I didn't know I was going to be a subaru owner until a few months ago and didn't find the USMB until after that. My summer vacation time was already planned. I'm having a blast with my brat and will pm you when I get moving on my ej swap for one of your kits for the 5sp d/r install. I'd love to see pics of your ride and onboard air, or maybe I'll see it next year. Thanks. Daniel
  24. Great ideas everyone. I think the real deal is that I'm having a blast playing with this brat, and my work schedule is allowing me time to goof off, so I keep creating projects that I "need" to do. This onboard air project is one of these things. I'm also the guy in my group of friends who gets the call when someones vehicle is in need of assistance. Having the ability to bring air tools along and not a compressor would be fantastic, so I think I'd use it often. I'll post as I move forward on this. thanks USMB:clap:
