OK. This pic prompts a question. See that little plug to the left (looking at it) of the crank pulley? What is that?! My engine has it too but it's not plugged into anything. Something Subaru put there as an evil plan to confuse me 20 some odd years later?

Not anything to write home about. But I did find a neat little trail (wish I would have gotten pics of it but I was having too much fun wheelin' it). Another gravel pit to play in with a few climbs and such. (And a daredevil jump!) And I was cruising down the road and saw a couple Soobs camping. White hatch, silver wagon. I already forgot thier names (I'm extremely bad with names, generaly forget within 30 seconds of being introduced to someone :-\ ) on the board, but they are on here. Went and wheeled with the hatch for a few and then they split for some fishing. Overall a fun little run around the woods. With lots of rain and hail to liven things up some. A couple pics. South Fork peak. OZ Quarry path around to the top. Same spot different angle. You can see my "Alice Cooper codpiece" skidplate. :-p Someone was building a daredevil jump. Hope to gather a group for next time. And hit up a better area. All the trails (except for the one I hit) had "Trail Closed due to fire danger" up there. After I throw a new clutch cable in (can't seem to get mine within spec). If I have the cash I may be tempeted to hit up TSF again now that all the holiday weekend lunatics are out of the woods.

Yeah. But you have one super nice hatch. Seeing it at WCSS that's some top work.

I'm betting you're gonna have some people wanting one of those for thier Soob wheeler. (as long as they don't need hatch access) Very nice.

I think he's doing what I'm doing. Getting it going again for now to go out and play while all the parts for a transformation are gathered. (at least that sounded like his plan last time I talked to him) I'm putting a new engine and 5 speed in mine. But just did the 4 speed's clutch cause I don't quite have all the parts to do the swap yet. And well. I wanna wheel now. Couldn't see letting it sit for several months while I got things prepped.

Man. I got the sawsall. I got the welder. ....... Not quite yet. But this is some dang good inspiration.

I'm thinkin' mine were just lost years ago like GD said. Proly when the previous owner repainted the wheels.

I'm curious about this "plastic ring " I hear so much about. (scoobyclimbs is missing one as well on his hatch) My wagon had the typical "wagon wheels" on it when I got it. Had the little "volcano" aluminum center caps with the logo in the middle. Looked to be spring steel teeth that held it in the center hole on the rim. But there was no plastic to be found anywhere on those wheels except the logo sticker in the middle. The center cap snapped right into the steel. Must be a year change? A hatch thing?

Seems you can get one from Subaru.? I ordered one from Parts America. http://www.partsamerica.com/ Not in a Subaru box (Niehoff), but the parts in the bag look the same. Neat part is if a local Shucks or similar store in that chain has it. You can pay for it online (and get it cheaper than in the store) and go pick it up in the store if you want. The nearest Shucks hates me, always picking stuff up without paying. Now I just gotta get off my rump roast and do the rebuild. Had the kit sitting around for about a year now. -
For the rear windows you could just hit up a plastics shop (We have "TAP Plastics" here in PDX) And get some 1/8" or so (or even thinner) polycarbonate. I replaced a broken window in my Volvo years ago like that (until I found a good one in the JY) and it worked great. Was cheap, easy to work with, and light.

Gonna try to replace the brush? Or the whole motor? Or whichever is easier to find. You may be able to take the motor to a motor repair and they might be able get ya a new brush to pop in. Never looked at one though so I don't know how easy/hard that would be on a Soob blower. What about that wagon in the JY near you? Take a jumper box and see if it works.

Yeah you won't even really notice the movement. But I'm sure there's a bit to be had. But I know I can pull on mine all day straight down and it just hangs on the pinon shaft nut. But if I grab it good and pull forward and down it comes out. And like I said mine looks like it's wider one way than the other. (bolts are unevenly spaced as well) So having it so it's widest side to side, narrowest up and down, will help it rock a hair more to clear the nut as well. Something you can do once it's unbolted hust have it in neutral and turn the shaft until it's where you want it. Good luck. I know mine was a pain the first couple times I pulled it till I got the hang of it. And if you are pulling the driveshaft all the way out to replace the joints. Remember, a bunch of gear oil is gonna come pouring out the end of the tranny.

Can't wait to have our Soobs meet. I think they'll wheel together just fine. Gonna rip out my (kinda nice but wheeling trashes it) carpet as well. Replace it with some bedliner.

Mine is a little like that too. (mine's a one piece shaft) I've always just been able to force it out of there. Kind of a push it forward, hope there is just a little flex in the engine/trans mounts you can use and it'll pop out. In is about the same. I just get it up there, and kinda bang it with my palm. Sometimes the direction you have the plate facing helps. Seems like they are wider one way than the other and can rock against the diff more. Thus giving you more room to slip it by.

Getting to the clutch trans removal question.
TeamCF replied to TeamCF's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
  It went. "thunk" And the sweet spot was found. All bolted in. Just gotta hook everything back up. Adjust it. And Thousand thank yous to all that threw in their knowledge. I took all advice given, mixed throughly and the results were perfect. * Oh yeah. I think that the methods in here should be assembled for the USRM. -

Yeah I used the tool as well.mine seemed to fit nice and tight. Think I'm just not quite getting that sweetspot. if only I could just flip it on it's roof this would be cake. -

I was thinking of that and may give it a shot. I tightened mine up all the way but aybe a little more could o the trick. Gonna head on out and attack it again in a few I'm thinking I'll get it this time. It was dark by the time I got it all situated last night and was actually trying to get in to slide in. With daylight I'll have an easier time I'm sure. -

Yeah. I'm just glad I grew out of my bad temper. I've been known to crawl out from under a car and in frustration start kicking in bodypanels. But that was way back. And only leaves me with an ugly car after it's fixed. Now it's just alot of laying under there swearing. And alot of "Why are you doing this to me!?!" Like asking it will help. Still get a little physical with the part in question though. -

I was trying that. By myself though. So I'd turn it a hair, shove. Turn it a hair, shove. Rinse and repeat. I'll hand a ratchet with the proper socket to someone around here tomarrow and have them turn while I'm under it shoving. -
Have to keep an eye out.

Getting to the clutch trans removal question.
TeamCF replied to TeamCF's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well. I got the clutch in. Got the trans up and hanging by a rope in the door. And the inputshaft is in the disc. The lower studs are lined up and in a little. But that last inch or so just wont go. Loosend the pressure plate bolts some more. (to the point of almost coming out, the input shaft is already in the disc remember) But I still can't seem to get the pilot bearing to line up and accept it. I got it as high as it'll go on my jackstands. (which is not high enough for the kicking method) Made sure it'll all stay put and came in the house. I REALLY should have just pulled the engine to do this. Thinking of pulling the engine anyway. Putting the trans in. and THEN putting the engine back in. I'm thinking that'll be easier at this point. Yay for the long way around? * The engine hoist from the front, rope up through the shifter hole slammed in the door trick worked like a charm though. Ferox, if I have to lower the trans back out I'll proly take ya up on the offer to use the trans jack. -
Cool.
