"whoomp whoomp whoomp" up front.
TeamCF replied to TeamCF's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I got it all sorted. But thanks for the input. I noticed how whimpy the trans mounts were when I did my clutch. Kinda would like to see what other heavier mount I could adapt to fit it. Not a ton of room there though for something off of a V8 machine. -
Sounds like I should get some new tires as well. My rear diff ate up my rears, but the fronts are new...ish. (sliced both out at the dunes, at different times so they are also different amounts of wear... why I never put them on the back) I would have kept rotating but with damage happening it threw it all out of whack.
-
Yeah. Would have to be if I could get a whole group to go up. At least hoping to make the X-mas tree run this year. Half the distance just about.
-
That looks like it was a blast. Had thoughts of making this one but was helping work on the hatch. And I just patched some things up on mine and want a few closer in shakedown runs first.
-
Coolness. I know it's gonna be a week or two before scoobyclimb's hatch is going. But I also know (just came from the shop from helping him work on it) that he is way stoked to get it on the trails. I'm sure there will be some "little" runs (as in small group) But I'm talkin' everyone around here that wants to wheel. All at once. So hopefully we get it planned with enough notice so you can get a crew together to come down.
-
Time is running out for all the good wheelin' Snow will be on the trails soon. (well not like next week but you get the idea) Scoobyclimbs is almost got his new hatch rollin'. (I'm off to help put the lift in right now) We are gonna need an outing soon. I know everyone has been itching to wheel all summer and now it's almost over . So everyone pipe up. When and where do you want to go? We've got: Hood river area. Mt.Hood area. Goat/Estacada/Colton area. TSF. Somewhere new??? ect. ect. ect.

I've been away from RallyCross this season. But last I heard, the Hillsboro site was going away. But like I said, it's just what I had heard.
-
See ya saturday. We'll get that sucker lifted.
-
It's a button.... How could you resist just pushing it to find out what it does!?
-
hehe I've done that. But I had some Jeeps and Yotas to impress so I wheeled on it the rest of the day. Kinda stupid as I blew out that front axle from all that down travel. And beat the heck out of my wheelwell. But they thought it was pretty dedicated of me so I got bonus points. And now they invite me on all the cool trail rides. Sounds like you had some fun.

That engine bay is just too clean. I think I might be blind now. We'll have to get that thing on the trails and work on fixing that "problem".
-
Judging from that list of parts. I like where this is going.

Yeah, I had a point when I was about to try and sell of my new car to get away from the payments and full coverage and switch to the Soob full time (I only use it as a wheeler). But I'm stuck with it as I drove it too much too fast and it blue books out for less than half of what I owe... (then there's all the body bumps from taking it off road in Arizona and Wyoming, and "RallyCrosses" that have jumps up in the middle of nowhere in WA.... Kinda kills the resale value ) Be nice to have an extra $400 in my pocket every month. I'd have my GL built to the hilt in no time. Then I'd have to buy another daily driver again. And BTW. I fixed my GL's brakes all up.
-
Cool. I just got my brakes fixed (hillholder took a puke all over the drive, so I removed it) You wouldn't believe how hard it is to find a metric "T" fitting around here. VW had one but it took the wrong kind of flange. Had to go to the JY and got lucky they had 1 EA81 in the whole place. Gotta bleed them tomarrow as I have crap to do tonight. Then I just have to sort out my clutch some more. It has a new cable. But still does not have anywhere near the cable travel or throw the book say's it should out at the clutch lever. Proly gonna extend the end of the pedal that pulls the cable to gain more throw. (And get alittle more fight for my leg from the clutch, it's always felt too easy to push to me) Got a nice big return spring out at the clutch. To replace the hillholder one. And I picked up a stock Subaru spring to throw in the glovebox. Wonder if Greg will have his hatch ready. Gonna help him put in a lift this weekend.

A quick loop around PDX (I left this morning, and just got back). And I am home without needed part. Time to change the clothes, grab some tools and just hit the U-Pull it. Yank a rear one off of another Soob. (Or maybe I'll find another hill holder that looks to be better than mine. Then I wont' have to lengthen the MC line to reach the T) Only metric T's I could find used a bubble flange. (VW) I need an inverted flange. Didn't think to ask about that when I called places. Just knew they had metric. Glad I got a bonus last week. That'll pay for me missing work today this week. Ahh well. Maybe I'll find some other stuff in the JY I want as well. Getting to hate woking on cars again. Now I remember why I made the switch to new and got into the habit of trading in once warranties ran out years ago. :-\

Sounds good. This weekend will proly be busy. But after that should be good. Not been out in a couple weeks and I'm starting to go crazy from the lack of trails in my life.
-
It decided to just puke out all my fluid last night. Big puddle under the car today. Empty master cylinder. Been leaking since I bought the car but real slow and I always kept an eye on it. Hmmm..... metric.... *smacks self on head* the one I got was the only one they said they had (not sure on it's exact thread type). Gonna have to hunt down a metric one in the morning. And buy some more fluid. Thanks.

Yeah the spare with my set of 505's was just slightly narrower than the rest but could still take the same tire as the others. (But I do not have THAT spare as I alreay had a fullsize 14" spare for mine, and someone slse needed it more)
-
So my Soob is sitting in the drive with it's gushing hillholder out of it. The "T" block I got from Napa does not fit (my line fittings wil not thread into the block, odd I [and Napa] thought they were kind of a standard thing). So where can I score a hillholder rebuild kit or new unit in the morning around PDX? Or exactly what part # do I need to eliminate it. (As in where do I get a certain "T" block?)

I was trying to go down FS 45 (goes south a ways). But when I go to the intersection I found the camping Soobs. And they told me that the road was blocked about a 1/4 mile down by a rocks the size of my car. Was gonna check and see if it could have been a wheeling op. But got distracted by rolling around the few trails I found with them. Not a whole lot down that way that I found. Lots of forest roads. Not much as far as good wheeling goes though. A more thorough exploration day will be needed. Greg is supposed to have his hatch ready for a test run in the next couple weeks. We'll all have to get some wheelin' in. Maybe a little TSF. Or some other not so wheeled by us spot. I know The coast range out near Greg is supposed to be some fun. But last time he took me out there it had alot of crappy snow.
-
Well crap. Makes me wanna pull it all apart again.... not really.
-
Yeah I've read the same. Not strong enough for prolonged/off road use.
-
Yeah getting up to that peak is kinda hidden. And seems more ATV sized. But it's petty nice up there.
