I'd be down but its proly pretty snowy up there. :-\ Brown's staging area itself is proly closed (always is in winter). But the front parking area to the left of the gravel shed off of 6 is open. (for a meeting spot) Most the trails are still open last I heard. Some are blocked off for winter. All are snow covered, some of it is pretty nasty. Lots of blow down. I think the FS even just said screw it and closed some roads up there cause they don't feel like clearing the trees out. This is just info I've gathered from a few runs guys did recently on some 4x4 boards I'm on. Almost every pic was buried 36"s and a winch cable out. It may be different up there now though as it's been a little warmer the past week. I'm thinking some trails might just be mud. Or with this wind even dry. But I would check conditions day before just to be safe. Doesnt mean I wouldn't want to go up and check it out though. If all the powerlines are doable then at least we could get in what, 4-5 trails. *We're doin SL this sunday again if ya want too.

Cool. Hope ya can make it. Talked to Greg earlier and he was getting his hatch ready. I did some tinkering on my GL today so things are shaping up for some sand fun.
-
Yes.

Oh yeah we'll have to do some more even as the trails melt off. Sand Lake is always fun. What seems to be nice about winter is the number of quads and bikes buzzing around out there is way less. Middle of the day sunday and the one lot was empty, the other was proly less than half full. When I went for WCSS10, even during a weekday both lots were full. And you had to watch you didn't get hit or hit a bike or quad buzzing by.

I've been meaning to go out to the Mud Run. At least just to check it out. The pics from the last one on New Years it did not look Soob freindly. It didn't even look 44" boggers with a blown 454 under the hood friendly. But I have seen past ones that had some more mild stuff and stocker rigs were playing on it.

hehe Your neighbors gotta hate you. Looks like some fun.

Post your snow videos !
TeamCF replied to oskar_subaru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
This is actually from last year but oh well. A little tearing up the yard and driveway. Again from last year playing out at a pit with Chazmataz. Not much snow left when we got done with it though. -
So I'm thinking...... January 25th. That work for everyone? A couple Soobs on the dunes was fun. Half a dozen would be awesome. We can roam around like a scene out of Mad Max. (At least I know my Soob looks the part. Hell I can even wear some of my clubbin gear and then I'll look the part. ) And remember. It's $5 per vehicle on the dunes. (last time Greg forgot to bring cash.... I traded him a pint of brew afterwards for his entry in to the dunes. )They never SEEM to check, but if ya don't have the little ticket stub they'll nab ya. And there were half a dozen Forest Service and Sheriff's roaming around last time. I'd be all for this weekend but that would be short notice and my sweety DJ's this saturday night.

So am I reading that right? You're even putting Dig on it!? Sweet.
-
Will most likely be on a sunday. in 2-3 weeks. Have to put a post up and everyone can discuss it. Wanna get Chazmataz out as he has not gotten to go out in awhile. And sundays are his only day off.

I know how that is. I know I've been down a few that started to give me the info for a problem. Only to come to a dead end, like everyone just lost interest in the problem. I'm sure it was a situation where another search was done, they got thier info out of another thread, and never returned to the thread they started to let everyone know. It happens. And for some reason I feel bad about bumping six year old dead threads back up to the top. I just search more. Gotta just remember the age of some of the Soobs here. And the fact most problems if not all have a thread (or a few) with the answer on here somewhere. Not saying the site is as old as the Soobs. Just that almost anything that can go wrong, has to at least one of the cars here and has been discussed. (And can only hope at least one thread relating to a problem was finished up)

Radius Rods Don't Like Curbs!
TeamCF replied to Twitch de la Brat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ouch. Did that to mine out wheeling once. I believe it was Rooinator (if I'm wrong I'm sorry) that told me to take some small angle iron (proly about 3/4", I still need to do it) And weld it along the rod. Supposed to make them just about bullet proof. -
Yeah yeah yeah. I realize today was the 11th and I also realize that channel 9 is the emergency channel. I seem to have had a major brain fart. Anyway all turned out well. Met up with scoobyclimbs at about 9:30 (yeah we were late too, he showed up just before me) We changed to channel 10, topped of the gas and headed the rest of the way to Sand Lake. I had a grinding sound coming from under the hood. I chose to ignore it. There was wheeling to be had after all. No metal on metal noise was going to get in the way of that. Turns out that when you do a GM 100 amp alt upgrade with no lift..... It will hit the hood under torque and the alt's fan will grind a slot in it. Found that out near the end of the day after messing with it wondering what the heck. Then just looking up to see the damage. I fixed it with a hammer on the dunes. That shut it up. I'll have to pretty up the hood later, it works fine for now. That's what I get for making this trip it's test drive. So I have a few pics. SC got some vid. (And you can hear my grinding!! hehe) It was good times. With a maniacal laugh, I plowed that kid's sand castle....... The male dung beetles will fight over the dung ball. The winner will impress the female. Lots of fun little trails out there to play around in. Just pounded it out some, and it clears now. Kept looking down for the cause of the ruckus. Just had to look up. So it has been decided that Sand Lake is the new winter wheeling spot. As the regular trails are all glacial right now around here. And not the fun kind of snow. The "move 2 feet dig for two hours, repeat" kind. :-\ We plan to plan another trip for a couple weeks from now. This is advance warning for anyone wanting to go play.

No problem. (on the pics and letting you know, I just hope it's not as rainy as they say it'll be or that will cut into the pics.)

hehe, my EA81 is far from being able to pick up the ladies (title says it all). Besides my Fiancee might not like that. I'd drop the diff and the engine as well. Didn't know they only did a suspension lift on his one. Thought it was a full body lift. My only concern with mine would be the struts up front only have two points of mounting. So I'd still have to build up strut spacers with more support. I'd just have to use a bit more steel.

Got all my crap together. At least as far as the Soob goes. Made sure to top off the wiper fluid as it will be needed heavly. Threw the flag in now. I know if I didn't I'd get halfway there and realize I forgot it. I really need to fix all the leaks in that thing though. Everything I had on the floor in the back was soaked all my maps, blanket, a towel, a winter jacket. All sponges. :-\ Anyway, I got your message Greg. We can meet at the Shell as it's kind of at the point our two paths meet. Or we can just meet out at SL. I'm not sure on a SL time though. I can be passing by the Shell around 8:30- 9 though. Unless you want eariler. I know you said you wanted to go out there at dawn. Just incase we don't hook up at first. Lets try CB 9. If it's too busy we can change it up. Anybody else that might try to make it that's the tenative plan. Like I said before, just head out to SL if all else fails, I'm sure you won't miss the Soobs running around. * So it's meeting at the Gales Creek Shell station on Hwy 6 at 9am then. (just talked to scoobyclimbs.)

hehe Meaning: I just have to get off my butt and do it. Even buying the steel I could do this cheap, I know a steel yard thats just perfect near me. They have "used" meaning small pieces left over from cutting a 20' length in half or whatever. And they sell it cheap. Bought the 8 feet of 2"x3" I used in my front bumper for like $14. (thinner wall though than I would use for a lift)

uh oh, another Concrete Cowboy. I've never understood the point to building an off-road capable vehicle and then not using it off-road. Shouldn't drive something that you don't need in my opinion. But that's just my take on it. But I'm more of a go, screw the show kind of guy. Hey cmiller. We'll try to get something going with more notice. I know I want to just cause it will mean a bigger group. Seems there is always a few that miss out cause they need more notice. I just gotta get out of my last minute shell and plan ahead. Maybe another SL trip.

Oh yeah I did the cranking of the bolt about 10 minutes after getting it home when I bought it and discovered it in the owners manual. (have adjusters on the front too) I'm also running 195/75/14 on mine. Rubs a hair when the inside front wheel is fully compressed on a cranked turn, but only a tad. I could run one size up on it with only slight body mod in the front wheelwells. (Had some on but went down one size to simplify things for the time being) Little bit of, BFH? Reality is it's as big as I really want to go to keep some low end. So I could get away with no lift, but think it would just be smart to do some lift to it. Though I would like to throw on some "entry level sized" Swampers. Hope you guys get that stubborn strut taken care of and we get some action shots.

need date of wcss11 meet
TeamCF replied to 86subaru's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Hope it ends up near some trails. Anywhere it is it'll be fun though. I hope to NOT blow my clutch half way there this time. No two days of playing on the dunes before hand. -
Another Soob gettin' more clearance. One day I'll do it to mine. The $$ I was thinking of spending on it got applied to a 100 amp alt for the Soob, and new tires for the daily driver, which were needed really bad. So you guys just used sections of tube? Looks like about 1/4" wall thickness? I keep wanting to just do a homegrown 2" for a tad more clearance. Not to interested in huge tires as I don't want to loss too much low end. And I like the stance my Soob has being all compact with the suspension arms being all that really sticks down, but a little more space between my rockers and the rocks would be nice. But I really like Scott's lifts, they just look so nice. Though for an EA81 it's only two support points at the struts.... Now I'm just thinking out loud.

That's cool. This kinda came up as a late plan. We had thought about it a few days ago but didn't REALLY think it'd be fun till yesterday. Should get your buddy and his newly lifted Dodge in on the next time too. Always fun to have some variety. We'll have to plan a run more in advance, one of these days. Like how the guys up in Wa tend to do. Seems for us it's always a last minute "Who's in?"

Well proly gonna be hittin' up Sand Lake with Scoobyclimbs this upcoming Sunday. This is not 100% but as it's about all we got that's not covered on feet of snow (most trails around here are glacial this time of year) And I really don't feel like playing in snow anyway. I did enough deep snow play just getting out of my driveway (300' long hill to the road, we had a few feet that just FINALLY went away) the past few weeks to last me a couple years. I'm freakin over it. It's 99.99999% gonna happen. Not sure on times and CB channel yet. But proly leave early from here. Takes me a few hours to get there. And lets say for now... channel 9 ??? I got my new 100amp GM alt in and wanna go get some crud on it. Chaz? Mike? Wanna go play? Anyone else? All you need is a dune flag and a tire gauge. Pump helps too but there's one at the gas station down the street to air back up. Even if some show up late it's not like some running around the dunes looking for Soobs won't get us all together later. http://www.sandlakeoregon.com Only thing I'm seeing as far as conditions go is carry chains in hwy 6. and that's for a 1,600' pass. I'm at about that here and it's clear. And only supposed to get nicer as the weekend goes on. http://www.tripcheck.com/Pages/RCMap.asp?mainNav=RoadConditions&curRegion=1 Weather expected near SL. Saturday Night Saturday night, occasional light rain. Lows 40 to 45. South wind 10 to 20 mph. Sunday Sunday, rain likely. Highs 45 to 50. South wind 5 to 15 mph. Sunday Night Sunday night, mostly cloudy. Chance of rain. Lows 40 to 45. Southwest wind 5 to 15 mph. Thought about TSF as well. But some trails will be covered. Some have received damage and are closed. And all will be grease. But I'm not against checking it out. The powerlines trails are pretty quick to get to and will tell the story if they are open. * oh and the station near Sand Lake has Dune flags and a littl ATV shop that has some supplies of interest to Wheelers as well. But I would tend to think hitting up a local ATV shop near anyones house that goes would be advised. Just to be safe. Also gives time to install the mount rather than at the dunes.

Some places you have to be careful when doing that. I've heard that you need to get a special "Title" for the abandoned vehicle from the police in some places. (guess you gotta give them the VIN and they give you a paper after they run it so you can haul it off to the JY) I know a group of wheelers in southern WA that had to before they removed some vehicles from a local spot near them when they were cleaning it up. But +1 to you for stepping up for the task.
