  1. Where do you get your axles? I'm paying $79 each at Discount Import for EMPI's.... If I could save $40 a set then I'd just get a few extras and call it good. Bearings are about the same price though. And yeah 15 to 30 min job on changing an axle. Seems like it takes me longer to put the car on jackstands now than it does to swap out the axles. Everything is sorted now though and I hope to lose the axle swapping skill over time. ============= As for getting them at Amazon. I think that option died. Last time I checked you could no longer get them from them, as GCK is no longer around. I tried to order some and got denied.
  2. Good idea on the wood backing block. Inexpensive, simple, and effective. Only thing is it may hold moisture or rot after awhile. Unless you treated it, or it was treated. I'm thinking of adapting the radio antenna mount, or at least using the hole for mine. The radio part of my stereo no longer works only the cassette deck. (I don't listen to the radio anyways, don't play anything I like) So I figure it's a good place to mount the CB antenna. So when you're running through a trail with lots of nasty branches, the spring gives enough for the antenna to fold down good? I've just stuck with my magnetic one cause alot of the trails this year seem to have things trying to pull loose parts off the top of the car. (think it's a combo of all the snow last winter pushing stuff down, and gas $$$ keeping as many people from running them and keeping them clear) The mag antenna just flops off when it needs to, then I have to get out and put it back up. If I had a longer spring one. It would have to be able to almost lay down flat on a few of my fave trails.
  3. Truck stops. Last time I was in a GI Joes (I know they changed the name but I don't care :-p ) They had some CB antennas too. But not a ton. If you make it up over by the PIR area. There are a bunch of shops for big rig's. Forgetting the exact road most are on but there's a bunch of places to check in that area. (Beale [spelling], Jubitz, ect.) I have my Dune flag mount in about the spot you are talking about. Made a little "s" bracket that bolts in under the hood and sticks out past it.
  4. I've not had any EA82's so I can't compare. But my EA81 has been a joy to work on. Really not going to get much simpler unless you bolt a lawnmower engine in. As far as parts go. I've had no problems finding anything at parts stores or the JY. If there's a part out there that is hard to get I must have not broken/wore it out yet.
  5. I had one of my new ones do a couple clicks on me the first time I turned it around in the drive. After that (and check back over all fasteners) it's been fine. Like was said I'd take it back and have them go back over it & let you see parts.
  6. Depends on how fast the money goes. I could stay through friday if I can afford it. Heck if I decide I do want to stay all weekend and miss the Fly-In I could. The wedding I was supposed to go to got pushed back till next summer. It's just that I blew close to $100 on a day trip out to SL, with gas, food, and such. Gas at the coast is a bit more than inland (about $4.50 at some stations but could be had for about $4.35). And I did run down to Newport to get some food and brews at Rogue. So that didn't help. (I didn't pay for the food there though, my Fiancee did) But I can haul a bigger cooler with enough food for a few days so that cost would be less. And I can go about 300 miles on a tank with wheeling thrown in the mix. But I don't plan on having the Soob turned off much with all the fun stuff to play on. Guess I'll just have to see how it all plays out. And stay as long as I can. (Till I'm down to just enough $$ to get home, or break it. ) Big joke with family and friends is I'll proly break at SL and not make any other days. Some joke, thanks alot, way to boost the confidence. I could always give a new credit card a workout and be paying for WCSS 10 for the next five years.
  7. Cool. Got all the bug worked out of mine. (more like operator bugs getting it adjusted right, hehe) Now my only prblem is I need a different antenna. I have the little job that sticks to the roof with a magnet. Holds good for most stuff and gets really good reception for it's size. But when I go down tight trails with lots of branches and such it tends to get knocked off. Dang trees always trying to pull parts off my Soob! A longer bolt on one with a good springy base would be the way to go.
  8. http://www.sandlakeoregon.com/slorules.html Well it says nothing on the Sand Lake site about a curfew.
  9. I read that it got one on one of the 4x4 sites. Maybe it got voted down. Was supposed to be 10pm. To cut down on drunken' night time ATV accidents. But they compromised with midnight. But like I say wether it passed or not I didn't keep up with. Guess a good read of the rules board in the staging lot will be in order just to be sure.
  10. Gonna do the swap eventually. Proly try my luck at finding a good one in the JY. Should be plenty.
  11. So I've been getting ready for the pre WCSS Sand Lake trip. The curfew there is midnight. And I figure I'll have to be running around till I'm not allowed so.... All guns a blazin' (my alternator proly hates me for that shot, but I'll not always run all of them at once) Turned off. Got then angled slightly out for trails. Gonna find the right emblem in the JY for my new blacked out mesh grill. My back ups. They are just some AUX backup lights for trailer hitches. Hooked up to the rear defrost wires. My window no longer has any un-broken lines and I figured the switch/relay could proly handle it. Had those on for awhile now with no problems, and I really enjoy night wheeling... alot. Plus I can reach over and kick them on whenever I want. Good for checking something behind the car on the trails at night. Also changed out my old rattly and plugged with catalytic converter guts muffler with a new cheapo "Turbo" style muffler (does the job good for the GL). Put a turndown tip I made from an old elbow that was laying around. Sounds good, kinda like Scoobyclimbs Outback. And gave me a chance to play with my welder making all the hangers and such. Next will be replacing the rear seatbelts with hooking points. I already removed the rear seat. Be good for hauling gear securely.
  12. Yeah. The biggest thing is it takes a little "spring" away from the side trying to fully compress (hopefully allowing a little more pressure on the extended side, by letting the other side really stuff up in there).
  13. 2,000 miles in ten days? But I guess with micro cars and speeds reaching a blistering 50mph that could be right. (And European traffic, in some spots) Good to see the little 360's still gettin' some action. I've done Detroit to Portland in two. (about 2,400 miles) Left thursday night, arrived saturday afternoon.
  14. Nice. That'll turn some heads on the freeway. Can't wait to see it in the sand. Proly gonna get alot more confused looks from the ATV'ers than I did when I was there.
  15. Ahhgg... as of right now I'm most likely only gonna be making the Sand Lake days on wed/thurs. I'll have to be back home by thurs night. Unless things change. But right now a wedding and a Fly-In is getting in the way of WCSS. So no TSF on friday for me.
  16. Proly not much they CAN'T do. (Except go down the highway in a straight line, but that's not why you got them.) We'll need pics of you slingin' some big chunks of mud with 'em.
  17. Yeah I only went down to 20 psi, gonna try 15 next time.
  18. Oh yeah. Figured out my $$ situation today, and by WCSS 10 I can come up with only about 1/2 of what I'm gonna need to pull it off. So I'm just gonna shoot for next year. Good luck on your end!
  19. If I come up with a winning lotto ticket I'll be there. The Soob just decided it's time for overhaulin' on multiple components and I can either fix it. And not afford to go. or leave it home, and have the cash to show up one day. Maybe I'll just run the Focus out there sunday to walk around. I guess I'm just into the tinkering to keep my small solo wheeling trips going more than I'm into a big event kind of place. Been feeling real Hermity lately. (is that a word?) Been wheeling a ton. But been preferring it to be alone. And the chance to go up in a small plane far out weighs Subaru's in my book at the moment. I am still gonna try and make a day out at Sand Lake though. Wed or thurs, not quite sure yet.
  20. I'm thinking by CF you mean TSF? Here's a link of my last time out. Some pics in a few of the posts on the first page. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=89969 That kind of terrain is par for the course there. I'm stock with 26" tires and a welded diff. You can make it no problem. And like Scott said, there will be plenty of tow straps around. Now I just hope I'm even gonna make WCSSS10. Just figured out I'm already way over budget for it. And my clutch just toasted. Plus there is a fly in cruise in I want to go to way more badly on saturday. I'm a total aircraft fanatic.
  21. I can see where that would slow down the rusting.. I'm gonna take a multiple fix approach to this. Find what ends up best for my situation.
  22. Don't see why you couldn't weld any direction you wanted to. Other than the sparks are gonna head down. I got the same welder and I'll prloy just be treating it good and welding a "cap" along the length of it on the outside. Ghetto I know. But I don't have the kind of time or budget at the moment to go all cut crazy replacing sections and POR-15 it. Only really has to hold together till the next chassis comes along. Things get more sedate around here I'll proly just buggy it, tractor tires the whole nine yards and just trailer it to the trails.
  23. So my GL is swiss cheesing on me. Last time I went out to play on some rocks the twisting blew out holes in the rocker panels below the doors. (guess even though it'll go on some rocks now I still shouldn't play on them, and I just found a really vehicle mangling trail up on Lolo that is fun to play on) When I painted it last year everything seemed fine. Now I'm finding not much is left down there in spots except paint. Is there a way to treat that from the inside? I got holes I can spray stuff through! hehe I know of some products that convert/seal rust and such. But what's the final word on them? Just would like to slow/stop it from the inside. While I weld on some sheemetal on the outside. Not looking for pretty, just looking to hold it together on the trails for another year or so. Maybe it's time to build a buggy. If I could afford the steel.
