  1. I actually live out near Mt. Hood. About 2 hours away from the coast. Only place I've been wheeling out there is down in the Tillamook State Forest. Kinda near Sand Lake. (not too far inland) As far as near Astoria..... I have no clue what's close by.
  2. Yeah this will proly be my last outing to TSF till the show. Might still do a random run here or there around Goat or something though. I gotta save up some too. And make sure I have the soob ready.
  3. Yeah if you are careful about where you chose to put your tires, stock rig should be able to do that trail. The first time I did it I was by myself and it was wet. Only a few spots where there is a big rock in a tight corner and you have to kinda squeeze between it and a tree on the sidewalls. And I was open diff. So that's not an issue. I've yet to get stuck out at TSF (but after saying that, now I will ) Even on the black diamond stuff. Not that you couldn't, theres lots of places I've been through to get stuck in a bad way. I just try real hard to avoid it. One of the guys I wheel with said he's seen a guy with 40" tires and front and rear lockers get all kinds of stuck on a tricky section of trail. Next guy came through with 30" tires and no lockers and had no problem. All depends on where ya put those tires.
  4. Anybody else? All the trails are open. And it's a fun bunch of wheelers to roll with.
  5. '83 GL 4x4 D/R wagon. 1" lift in back to make up for the weight of all the gear. Stock suspension adjusters cranked. Welded diff. (yup, I put it back in last minute before the last run) CB radio 505 Pug wheels with 26" mud/snows. (all terrains will come next) Custom downpipe back for maximum clearance. Heats up things and hits crossmembers but dosen't drag on terrain anymore. Cheap off-road lights. 2x4 cargo holder in back. Aux backup lights. Sand dune flag. Lot's of rocker panel dents. My Soob's story? I just like to wheel it. And that usually for me means I have to keep up with rigs that could use me as a speed bump. (nobody ever replies when I post up the TSF runs... So all I get to run with is Yotas & Jeeps, but it forces you to learn good lines fast or be humiliated) Aim one down the trail right though. And even a close to stocker like mine is capable of amazing things. One of the Jeepers I went with last time said "The subaru was more than impressive."
  6. Well then, I could be interested in the front struts and the rear shocks if all are pretty good. My rears are going.
  7. It should be good times. The last one was a blast. And more rigs are supposed to show for the 13th run. Just be prepared to be covered in dust by the end. (or mud if it's hot and you have no A/C)
  8. Really? How good are the struts? Are they the adjustable kind? (mine are adjustable and I want to keep it that way) You're close, and good spare parts are always needed as long as I got the cash. Might even be interested in other parts too.
  9. So, no "You should only get these ones" ? If I blow up enough and have spare carcasses, maybe I can come up with some kind of all steel version with some kind of large ball joint type thing..... The dealer will have two for me thursday. $65 each.
  10. hehe. I have one I was going to install but I've long since lost the right thread adapter. Plus mine turned my hand black in the summer.
  11. Nice setups you got there Pooparu. =============== Yeah I wouldn't see why the shifter would be different. Would think it would be the same spot actually. But it just kinda looked to me that the 4WD one is further forward than the FWD. But like I said I could be wrong.
  12. Mine has no stash spots. Mine's an '83 GL. Which looking at the pics. Some of those look to be only FWD? (correct me if I'm wrong) And the main shifter on mine seems further forward allowing room for the 4WD lever. And no stash spot. But I got the factory Clarion cassette deck! Which still works flawless. I normaly hang a cup holder off of the ashtray. Sorry about the dirt, still gotta clean it after yesterday. It was so hot and dusty I was covered in mud by the end of the day.
  13. Well I obliterated mine on my last wheeling outing. If I jack up the car the right front strut will just drop out with the rest of the suspension. (great for flexing, bad for front CV's) So where is my best bet of picking up a good one of these without spending an arm and a leg? (I'm thinking JY if I can find a good one, or dealer) Proly too much to ask if there's a heavy duty version.... I forsee alot of these being blown out in the future. 1983 EA81 4x4 wagon. Thanks.
  14. And underpowered lego with street tires can do alot more than most would think.
  15. It was. That first trail I hit to show them the power of Subaru was that one on the powerline trail with the big flat stump. About the middle of it there's the little trail that turns off to the right and climbs alongside and rejoins the trail. Bill did it when we were out there. Has all those alternating holes. Takes some creativity, but a Soob can make it. Oh and we came across three Cruisers like Bill's. They were playing on Little Rubicon.
  16. That was a blast. I did a few black diamond trails. And my first double black diamond trail. Trails hit were: Firebreak Five Cedar Tree Some of Powerline Archers Firebreak Can Opener (I watched, my front bumper would have just ran into the rocks) Waterfall (same as can opener, that is just one nasty group of small cliffs.) University Firepower It was nice having a bunch of guys that had high hopes of what me and the Subaru could do. And then were blown away when I actually did it. At one point I was going to do a really holed up climb, and was following one of them. When it became my turn it seems they really didn't think I was gonna go for it and walked back to thier rigs at the top to come back down. When I pulled up behind them it was a big "Where the heck did you come from?! holy ****!" Anyways some pics. Firebreak Five. This was a black diamond section. I was waiting my turn at the rocks. Going. The rocks are small near the bottom. Up near the top of the rocks. There were alot more than you can really see in the pic. The one I'm next to...... Did this. I was next to it. Hung a little in a hole, goosed it, and bounced sideways. My first real rockrash. I'll wear it with pride. Another rocky trail. Mostly small loose ones. I think it was still FF further up. My first double black diamond. To be honest I don't think it deserved the rating. Well if it was wet it would have been steep grease, but dry it was nothing. A better pic of the Soob under the tree. That's about it for now. If some really cool ones pop up on the 4x4 board I'll have to add to this. Not all have posted their pics from the day yet. Now I just have to fix what ever let go under the front end. I think I blew up a ball joint or something. Wheeld on it all day though (it happened early in some rocks) just had to ignore the grinding poping clunking coming from the suspension.
  17. So this is last minute cause I just came in from the garage and will be going. Meeting up with the group around 8:30. Heading into the woods at 9. We meet at the Gales Creek Shell station on HWY 6. No CB channel has been decided yet and my cell does not work out there so if yer late (if anyone decides to go), you're gonna have to wander around and try to run into us. Mostly milder rigs going on this run. The one on the 13th will be a really mixed group.
  18. Yeah i just ran out of time. Tomarrow is busy and I have to meet a bunch of Jeeps out at TSF at 9 am sunday morning. I was gonna just leave it in and drive it anyway. But I figured I'll put the open one in and make it so I have the least amount of troubles. I'll try it again before giving up completely on it.
  19. Yeah I have the torches. And a #2 tip. Just gotta get some cylinders. I moved out here from MI before getting them and figured it was best as I didn't have to move them. The little propane torch was a joke, I knew it wouldn't work, but gave it a shot anyway cause it was sitting there. I knew better. I'll get back on it once I have some time again in between wheeling trips. (got a bunch planned, and working on it will cut into them.) Proly after the subaru show.
  20. Could always take a look at some of the horns they have here: http://www.safedrives.com/
  21. I just put the open diff back in. After much going back and forth I decided I go out into the woods to roll around in my Subaru, not work on it. I can do that at home. And my luck, I'll be the guy throwing axles at the thing every time I go out. And the traction was cool, but to me not worth it. So once I can find an LSD for a good price I'll have a welded diff up for sale. (just in case I come up with umlimited time and $$ to support my welded diff) Thanks for the help and offers of help though.
  22. Thanks guys. I'll keep dinking with it here for awhile. Got it plugged and soaking like was mentioned above while I go about other business. If all else fails I'll have to just pull some apart and haul it to bigger tools.
  23. Yeah I don't have cylinders right now for my torch set. And I don't think the little propane job I tried could put enough heat in one spot fast enough. I figured it was worth a try though. If I'd get off my butt and complete my torch set this would proly not be a problem. Proly should have done that when I still worked at a shop repairing torches and regulators. (How I got my set so far for free. Just fixed up some junk and the owner let me take it home. )
  24. I'll try the idea of plugging one end and filling it. (Why didn't I think of that! ) If not I think you are right. It should be fine, after all I have smaller tires than most that are welded up anyway. I'm just trying to save some tire wear is all. In the few trips I've had it out I've already learned to set myself up for wider turns on the street. So that will be an easy habit to get used to. Thanks.
