I'm putting this here because I was the only Soob and I only have a couple pics of me. Mods can move it to the Soob trails section if they think it passes. Went out to TSF with the SORE4x4 guys. Mainly lifted Jeeps and a Toyota showed. Did several trails and Hogsback was rockin' till the top when we found a "glacier" that was not very inviting. All had fun and I only had to bow out on two spots. And had no stuck points. Which really impressed them. And I got invited to wheel with them anythime I want. As one of them put it in thier trip post on another forum "Jason's little Roo did awesome and went everywhere he pointed it." We did a few of the powerline trails. Little Rubicon. (I just watched on that one, Looking at it I could have gotten through a spot. But proly would have been one less door) Archers Firebreak. Hogsback. Got a few pics. Little Rubicon Little Rubicon Archers Hogsback, This one was twisty and real steep in some spots. They reopened it after doubling it's length last year and changing most of it around. Most of the other rigs were doing three point turns, but not the Soob! Coming out of Hogsback.

GL hatch/wagon clutch question
TeamCF replied to TeamCF's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Cool. Lots of options have been given to me here. Gonna have to check it all out. I'm liking the sound of GD's wheeler clutch setup. -
GL hatch/wagon clutch question
TeamCF replied to TeamCF's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Good to know. I may need to put a flywheel on it anyway. Let the metal to metal scraping sound upon letting out the clutch go too long. *smacks self* -
Not to take it back in that direction. (sorry Scott, oh and you got a PM headed your way.) But if you did get one and wanted to not trailer it to the trails all the time. I'm sure you can get it plated. I've seen a few Sambar's with full on standard OR plates around town. Just rolling down the road like anyone else. So someone has found a way. (proly a DMV worker who just does not care.) I bet set up they just rock the trails.

GL hatch/wagon clutch question
TeamCF replied to TeamCF's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'll have to check that out. For wheelin' I Would think it would be nice to have a genuine clutch. That is unless someone offers some sort of high performance clutch for it.... proly not though. And keeping it on the cheap (but quality) is nice. Now $125 was for disk, pressure plate, and bearing? (as in the whole kit) -
Huh. for that price I should replace mine too. Getting tired of using a long peice of alum C channel to prop it up.

GL hatch/wagon clutch question
TeamCF replied to TeamCF's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Discount only wants like $155 for the kit. Not sure on brand but they usualy have always sold me better quality stuff in the past. (other than the one wrong seal I didn't notice till I went to put my axle in tonight. ) The dealer is cheaper than that? -
GL hatch/wagon clutch question

Thanks for the info. I'll take a tape measure when I go to pick one up. -
So I went to Discount Import today to pick up a new axle, bearings, seals. ($115 for all) Anyway. I asked how much for a clutch while I was there as I'll be needing one when I drop in the "new" engine. They have to order it for my 83 GL wagon 4x4. But it would seem they had one on the shelf for an 83 GL hatch 4x4. And they said that the book/computer says they are different. (I was under the impression that they would have the same engine trans combo, and same clutch) Any truth to this? And I'm just mistaken. Or is thier book/computer wrong. Just wondering.

I'm sure we can give a yell when we go out Spiffy. We normaly just sent PM's on the board here to plan them. (Or at least I send bulk PM's here when I want everyone to come out and play... hehe) Get yourself some pugs with the biggest tires you can fit in the wheelwells. I know my rig suprises the heck out of me on a regular basis with that setup. (as I get braver, my Soob just seems to be there for me) But it did pretty well with the old 13's too. Just better now. Like Chaz said, There are alot of fun trails that a stock rig can hang on, and some that you need a little more but can proly get by with the right line or bypass. Are we hijacking Mike's thread? Or is sucking another one into the wheeling group a good use of any trail posting?

hehe He said he didn't want to get his camera wet in the rain. But yes pics will make this thread. *waits*

I just drove cross country. I noticed something. When I hit the states with the 10% corn gas. (based on what the labels said on pumps) My tank seemed to last alot longer, and my car seemed more peepy on the on-ramps once I ran a tank of thru. I used the cruise control 90% of the trip. Now more level states could add to the MPG, but the feel of power availablewould not be affected by that other than altitude. Just what I noticed. I'll try and keep more accurate records of octanes, type, and such on the way home. And lets not let this one get too political. Could be a useful tech thread if it does not get deleted.

That rocks. Make sure you take that letter in case they "Don't remember you"

I'm with ya. Still out of town for another week or so though. But when I get back some wheeling should be done!
-
Mine has the adjustable suspension cranked up, 14" wheels with the biggest tires I could fit. (they rub alittle) And I have a very small custom lift in the back to make up for all the gear in back. Other than that it just has the lights, and a CB. Yeah we should start posting up plans as well, the threads can just turn into a place for the pics after. Then more may be able to get in on it. I'll be out of town this weekend so no runs for me.

All the info you need should be here. There are links to maps and such that can be found from that page. http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/siuslaw/recreation/tripplanning/oregondunes/ Here is a link to the rules. You need an OHV permit, and a flag 9 feet above the ground for starters. http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/siuslaw/recreation/ohv/rules.shtml Hope that helps to provide more pics for the thread.

Craziness. Hope everything turned out cool in the end. Other than some tweaked sheetmetal.

Sounds like you guys had an interesting time. Where's wagon wheel?
-
I just have a short flexy antenna (about a foot tall) I've never adjusted it, though it says to. And I seem to get good reception out of it. But it is hooked to a big powerful radio, so that proly helps.

Took a run out to the Hood River area with ScoobyClimbs and Chazmatz. We were going to hit TSF but the weather was too nasty there. Covered alot of ground and had some good times. Got some snow, dry, mud, rocks, stumps, really narrow trails, steep climbs. A little of everything. What more could you ask for. I even got a little wild near the end and came flying up a greasy road rally style, pitched it sidways into a big mud hole at speed where the road T'ed (and Chaz and Greg were hanging out doing repairs and such). And treated them to me almost putting it on it's side when I sank it in that hole sideways. Splash. Anyways I got a few pics. Some off the phone as my camera memory filled up early (need a new SD card). Meeting in Sandy Had to stop for cookies Got to the trails Scoobyclimbs making the top of a hill we were playing on. Getting ready to go back down Found a little play area to have some fun in. Finnished of the day at Ellitot Glacier Public House. And some more cookies in the dark with all our light a blazin. Chaz's son said it was like car ballet or something. hehe "Subarus on Ice"

Ya know I never even thought of really buying one until I started wheeling. And I know exactly what you mean. May not be right for some but can really come in handy. Just still have not afforded one personaly. Went and looked, but no buy yet. Just wish the target shooters out there would take thier trash back out with them. Most proly do, but enough don't.

Thats true. I can save a half a pound that way!

Yup I got one of those! My second jack is living in the spare spot under the hood. The full size is strapped down behind the rear seat.
