Headed up around Goat with Scoobyclimbs, Chazmataz, and his buddy from work. Good times. Had one incedent with some deep snow when venturing up a road, but nothing too bad. Did lots of playing in an old gravel pit. It was all snowy when we got there. It was all mud by the time we were done. Got a few pics and some vid. Camera was freaking out, (I think it was the cheap batteries) so the video didn't turn out as well as it could. Little group shot. Chaz sailing his GL. Me playing on a rock. A small clip of them moving pictures. Love how the camera distorted it all at the beginning. Dang cheap batteries.

Suspension for the Little Blue One
TeamCF replied to Bucky92's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yup. I have new ball joints. And good bushings in the front of my GL. I still get a slight "clunk" here and there from the front right. And I know it's gotta be my right front CV and wheel bearings that are on thier last leg (left is all new, right's got the clickity clacks). So all good things to check Bucky92. Step by step you'll have it all sorted. -
Other than the cost (I would think the pro stuff could get spendy) of it I had thought of just removing the carpet all together and doing that. Knew a guy with an old Jeep CJ that had that done with drain ports he could open up so all he had to do after wheeling was hose out the interior. (had other things waterproofed as well)

I saw his hatch today. Sweet hatch. But it's not done yet. He's got to finish up his GM alt upgrade and such first. And a few other things. He definitely wants to go out with us once it's done though.

So I went and got them. Ferox, if you are only using the one you got for a spare. Any chance you want to trade for the spare I got. I can even offer a few bucks for the trouble. You took one of the driving wheels and left the spare, well the spare is different. So now I have 3 wheels that are the same, and one wheel that is about 3/4" wider. I already have the tires off and was going to go get my others put on then I noticed that. =============== All taken care of.

Ahhh NW. I was thinking on the east side, 30/Lombard. I still think I know that area though. I think I'm going to the Foster U-pull it to pick up 4 505 wheels in the morning though.

Loose seats in an EA81..and its not the bolts
TeamCF replied to hatchsub's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Mine does that too. Haven't looked into whats going on though apart from checking the bolts. Mine are tight as well. -
HHHmmmmmm............. This could solve my problem. And I could just still use the 504 for a spare. Hope they are still there in the morning. Gonna be there when they open.

Cool thanks. That actually gives me more ammo on finding the shop as well. I was told that it would proly be a good cost to have it done by the big rig shop. (still need to find out it's name as well) So a Pug shop that can handle them would be rockin. My Fiance lives in that area, I can take a look around saturday.

It has a small square hole in the center. Would just be a problem with keeping the hole centered. I was thinking the same thing but I would again have to take it somewhere to have it done as I don't have a big enough drill, nor could I keep the hole centered as the bit grabbewd at that square hole. More $$$ spent. I'll just wait till I can get to the right shop that can handle them. But yeah, it crossed my mind.

Well I'm sorry to bring this one back up. But Big-O could not balance my wheels. They have a lug adapter, but still need a center hole big enough for the shaft on the machine to go through. And every shop I've talked to can't for the life of them think of a Peugeot guy/shop that still exists in Portland. So it's all under 40mph for me. Til I can afford to have them balanced on the car at a big rig shop over in NE Portland. Kind of a dyno type setup.

No problem. That 5 spd swap is gonna rock. Yeah I have 14" pugs on mine. With 195/75/14 tires. About 25.5" tall. Went for 26"ers but when they put one on to see how it fit I couldn't turn the wheel at all. Tire shop said they'd help me adjust the body around bigger tires but not that much. That 1/2" inch seems to make all the difference. (plus the snows I was going to get had really square shoulder tread)

Yup. It's the one near Estacada. chazmataz and I are planning on heading up the Colton (more southwest) side of Goat this up coming sunday. Still not sure on meeting place/times though. We'll proly both be headed there from Sandy. I don't have a lift except for the inch or so the factory adjusters give me. I do however have the largest tires I can cram in the wheelwells without removing fenders or doing alot of body pounding. And I'm running an open diff right now. Seems to do good if I pick my lines carefully.b (a few weeks ago I went out with a lifted Yota and lifted Jeep, they took me down some nasty trails and were drop jawed when I came rolling on out at the ends) I'm sure Chaz will have his lifted and locked EA82. But I know he was working on his more sedate one like mine. I'm sure we'll proly try some crazy trails. And hit some deepish snow. But overall it will proly be alot of exploring and just seeing where we can make it too (Chaz knows the area better than I). Things haven't thawed out fully up there yet.

I didn't need any trimming. Just had to remove a bolt that holds the plastic liner in place up front. They rub a little when in 2WD, backing up hill, with the wheels cranked. Then I get a little footwell rub. I hammered it some but not quite enough. As far as I know the snow is just above 2,500' around there. It will proly be higher by the weekend. As there were places I went last weekend that had close to a foot, and this past weekend those places had no snow at all. And it was a warm sunny one yesterday up here where I'm at. One of these days I'll pick up another diff and give a Lincoln Locker a try.

The gravel pit was small but fun. Lots of little challenges for rigs of all levels. I'm thinking some spare gas and a GPS is in order for the logging roads. There were intersections out there with 5 to six roads all intersecting. and the cut area went for miles. Needless to say it was getting late, and I was low on fuel so I only ventured on them a little. Someone did put stick arrows at intersections pointing the way out though.

Distributor rebuild places?
TeamCF replied to hooziewhatsit's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Huh. My Soob is not moving another inch till I regrease those bushings. Proly should have done that when I put my new JY disty in... Guess that's what I get for not owning cars with proper distributors or carbs on them the past several years. Got all rusty on proper procedure. -
Ok I found a shop that can balance the Pug wheels with a lug adapter. Big-O in Gresham. Knew if I kept working my way out from home eventually I'd hit one. Kinda suprised Les Schwab in Sandy didn't have an adapter.

Scoured all my phone books. Unless I just start calling every single number in there, I have no clue who the Peugeot guy is in Portland... :-\ I'll keep poking around, one is bound to turn up. Already started calling tire shops. No luck there either. Gusss my Soob is a "keep it under 40" kinda car for now. So I'll be the one on the freeway with my hazards on.....
-
It was. And I hear there is so much more of it around there. Just need to be given the tour. Though I do enjoy the exploring.
-
Yeah I'll have to look for a shop around here. Gotta be one. As for going to 505's I always wanted to but no $$$ for them now. And I seemed to have a hard enough time getting ahold of any Pugs and was extatic when I finally was able to at least get ahold of 504's for a good price. At least I have 14's now. And the money went towards completing a Brat, so I helped someone out.
-
So the tire shop I got my new tires from couldn't balance my 504 Pugs cause of the lack of center hole. I tried the airsoft BB trick (about 6 onces in each, I checked a chart from a balance bead manufacturer) that all the 4X'ers are talking about on other boards. But that didn't seem to do very well either. (helped, but not good enough) And if I go over 40 it feels like it's gonna tear itself apart. Any suggestions? I'm gonna call some tire shops and describe the wheels and see if they can do it tomarrow. But I thought I'd ask somewhere where people have used the rims before first.
-
So a more proper run this time to test my new tires. (They are only 25.5" mud & snows but dang they worked good, I was sure to compare tread patterns, these are very much like the Perelli all terrains on my stepdad's pickup) So I wandered around the west side of Goat Mt. today. Ended up being ablre to go much higher up the roads as lots of snow melted since last week. Can't wait till next week when chazmataz gives me a proper tour of the area. (maybe some others can join us?) I did however find lots of logging roads that were very maze-like. And a little gravel pit area with some good short climbs and gooey mud. On one of the logging roads. This was alot steeper than the pics make it look. and right about where my left front tire is was about a foot drop. I proceeded carefuly, and a little further up, after getting the pic. This was a nice climb. Hard to see just how rough and holed up it was. Took a creative line to actually keep all four tires grabbing. I want to do it again and again. Coming back down. Sorry about the blur, I thought I got it good, guess I didn't. And after all the trouble I went through getting in and out of the hardly able to open door. One last pic at the end. Portland is down there somewhere. Overall a satisfiying run. Now I just have to get those 504 rims balanced. Tire shop couldn't do it and the airsoft bead trick didn't seem to work. So anything over 40 tries to rip the wheel out of my hands.

I noticed that too. Don't know if there is a wider view button or not on there. I havn't really looked yet.

This info will prove to be useful. Thank you GD! So I'm thinking those EGRs without the AAV connection are easly found at the JY? Also could the port on the EGR I have with the connection have the connection plugged? (like with a short new hose and bolt or something like that. Just in case one wanted to go for this and can't get to the JY right away. I know the right way is to get the other EGR, just wondering if blocking the connector would also work fine.
