  1. I almost headed up to the Lolo area yesterday evening. Bent a suspension arm the other day and had to "test out" the new one. (like it would be any different than before...) Ended up testing it on Goat. There were a ton of wheelers up there. Most were leaving when I was going up though. They are leaving the gate open now. I'm guessing so that if there's a snow storm and they need to service the antennas they don't have to get a frozen/piled under snow gate opened.
  2. I was thinking of something like that. I also thought maybe just put big triangle pieces of plate to kind of box in the whole thing. I really can't actually see ever taking the rod and arm apart (even to change axles I don't unbolt it) so a big one piece part would proly prove to be bullet proof. Then I can see myself bending up the mounts on the body if I hit something.... hehe. But I like your idea better I think. I got it all fixed now. Like $18 at the JY for the arm and rod and it had a good (almost looks new) ball joint in it. I already had a new one in but this way I didn't have to break out the puller today.
  3. Went to go do some off-roading today. Got in the GL warmed it all up got the the highway and noticed that the sterring wheel was turned right in order to go straight..... hmmmm didn't notice this on the way home last time I went wheeling (wed night up Goat) But I do remember hitting that gimungous rock that sounded like it wreaked havoc all the way down the car. Pulled over and took a peek. It did do the damage it was hoping for. Looks like I ned some new bits under there. Man, I really was wanting to hit a few trails today. Thats what I get for not checking it over when I got home. Then I would have had time to fix it. (Maybe, I can hardly ever make it out to the JY these days. So it will proly sit bent in the drive for awhile, glad it's not my daily driver)
  4. My first good break was when I was wheeling up on Goat. Went up a rutted hillclimb and tore my exhaust apart at the top. Had to use a tow strap to hold the pipe up off the ground to get home (and out of the woods). Ended up smashing the cat converter so bad that all it's guts broke up and fell out. And broke the hanger that bolts to the trans. Not to mention all the cracks and smashes in the pipe. All bolted back together now but it's just one big backfiring exhaust leak. Gettin' a new exhaust in jan/feb.
  5. Nice. Now we just need to get it on the trails! That is if your gonna run it at all till you get bigger tires.
  6. This would be a good one, once you're done, To have turned into a tutorial. Give the rest of us that don't have the shop to do it ourselves something to print and take to a shop that can do it. Instructions if you will, if nothing else to prove it can be done. In case we run into the same situation as monstaru.
  7. Nice pics. Is that the suburban you rescued? I ended up having second thoughts about going just after it was too late to catch you to caravan up (I do this alot, change my mind about going places the minute after the last minute:rolleyes: ). Then I find you were an hour late anyway! hehe oh well, always next year. Glad you go to have an adventure and all ended up well at the end of the day.
  8. Good job! I've been running into stuiations like this more and more myself. Except they usually have a buddy to pull them out. So I just watch. Then once they are out of the way I go and drive right past them. (over whatever got them stuck) Great to hear the "no ways" and see them pointing at me as I continue down the trail. All about picking the right line and using our size to our advantage. And in your case not letting the subies small size stop you from moving close to 10,000 lbs of truck. (I base that off of a freinds F-250 diesel 4x4, Weighs in at just under 8,000 lbs)
  9. Mine works good, and never gets in the way, but is a leaker. (I should buy stock in a good brake fluid manufacturer, get some of my money back)
  10. Ya know I though I did see them for sale for EA81s somewhere before. I'll have to look some more as I'm getting in need of new lines.
  11. RAM sells re-ring kits that include the bearings, gaskets, rings, and what not. http://ramengines.com/_wsn/page3.html I'm sure thier quality is good, but less expensive kits may be found. (though compared to the kits for my RX7, $200 is pocket change, why my RX7 still has a shot engine.) I'll also be in the market for a rebuild kit for my EA81 in the (near?) future. So I will be interested to see what the more experienced members have to say about this.
  12. Braided lines would be nice for off-road use. (and on road, I'm just thinking of the snag protection)
  13. Hmmm... That's closer to home and my subie gets grumpy over 55mph. (so I can tell a run up Seattle way is gonna be a long hard trip, and I'm low on the gas cash these days.) Keep me posted on it. There's a bunch of snow up there now but it's melting. Did a quick run up today before I take off for my girlfreind's.
  14. I'll get a lift one of these days. Just can't spend that much $$ right now. Gotta get my pugs from the guy in Sandy first. Then tires for them. (gonna do a size I can fit with my suspension cranked for now) I'm thinkin' I'm gonna try to hit the x-mas tree run up near Seattle next weekend. Should be fun.
  15. Nice. Gotta get pics sometime too. I myself just got back from a usual run up Goat Mt. down here. Several inches of snow up there. (I think it's around 4,000') Nice view of P-Town at night. Tons of other wheelers. Didn't need my chains at all.
  16. It was good times. We still need to get the whole gang together for a run. didn't even plan on going out sunday. Glad I conned my GF into going. hehe My schedule is taking me out of it for a couple weeks. I wanna see your new rig. Then I'll be out and about once more. Might do a night run monday or tues with Chaz.
  17. I had one of mine strip out on me as well the other night while replacing the gaskets. (which were too big from the subaru dealer, my pipes just went thru the holes, so I had to use some old RX7 gaskets I had laying around, they fit.) Seems the previous owner relpaced one of the studs with a 3/8. I went with it and had the heli coil kit on hand so I repaired it that way. Also check your specs. Dosn't need to be as tight as you might think. I'll just have to deal with it better at rebuild time.
  18. Yeah, my dad has about 10 acres up near Waters. but it too is up against lots of state land. We used to ride quads over to my uncles property near Lewiston. Be cool to do the trip in a subie. Mountain wheeling is fun. But I miss the fire road /powerline road cruising in MI.
  19. Yeah the trial repair was fun. And the best part was the best tools for what I needed done was a folding Army shovel and a hatchet. (a screwdriver was involved as well) Never thought I'd repair my car like that. All part of the game.
  20. I just took a look at mine. You're right the hump is on the wrong side. And its way smaller than the one on my bar. (for reference mine is for a GL, D/R, manual) They could just have the pic flipped... maybe.
