What's the toughest, stickiest primer spray?
TeamCF replied to Gyoas759's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Primer does stick good. But it provides no real weather protection. Needs some kind of top coat to seal it or it will actually act like a thin sponge layer. At least thats how it's been explained to me by many different people. Some of them very good body repair gurus. -
Aww man that sucks. Like has been said, fight for it. Hopefully this will lead you to doing something you enjoy more.

I'd like to join ya there as well. Keep us posted on that one.

*nail hit right on head* I will say if I had a bunch of extra cash, or won the lotto (guess I should actualy play for that to happen). I'd be more than willing to front the $$$ to have a locker designed for us. Cause I want one bad. But I'm just above broke right now so it aint happenin'. And I recently picked up a welder. So I guess I'll just have to lock it myself. I'll try to help with the pictures of off-road runs thing though. Plan on trying to get out at least every other weekend if my soob and S.O. allow. And I'm gonna try and drag a few of ya out with me.

Nice. Pretty much looks new.
-
Glad you at least got to go out and test it. Bummer about the other events of the day though. Gotta have you friend fix the 4WD on his S10 so he can keep up wth your soob in 2WD next time. hehe... tractor tires. That's just gotta rock.

83 GL 4x4 bad right front wheel bearings and CV joint brakes leak from hill holder can't see out the windshield when driving into the sun. (bad pitting) dome light no longer works (bad door switches) Healthy rod knock Still has slight window leaks around rear glass and windshield Think that's about it.......

Same color mine used to be.

Saw a really clean vary "right off the showroom floor" Brat driving through Sandy the other day. Looked like a shade of gold, had the big 4WD stickers on the lower body. little roll bar, jump seats, the works. And soooo clean. Any body claim ownership? It was so nice.

Portland PSA: ea81's back @ Foster/Damascus
TeamCF replied to ferox's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Bummer. I was in the Damascus one awhile back and they still had a couple. (needed a susp arm I bent off-roading) Should have pulled more spare parts while I could. Guess I should refrain from breaking my GL fo awhile.... -
Yes. Wonder how flexy the body is now with no roof? For the price it could be someones next buggy project.
-
I got mine about a week after ordering them. But I was in the first run. He proly had life happen and needs to make more. (though it is kinda a time sensitive thing) Don't know as I only know him from getting my calenders. Just sayin'. Hope you get your calenders.

Somewhere in the middle. I can get it to go just about anywhere I point it. (just about, gotta watch out for the really big stuff) It's a fun RallyCross machine. Gonna proly be a rockin' camping rig this summer. But it corners like a truck on flat tires on the pavement. hehe. And accelerates like the same truck. Pretty happy overall though. Good little multi use car. It's went through nasty mud, snow. Up sides of mountains over watermelon sized loose rocks. Hauled enough rocks out of the nearby quarry to have the rear suspension bottomed out all the way home. Ect. And did it all like it was just another day. Jack of all trades, master of none?

Looks like ya had some fun. Reminds me I should pick up a hi lift one of theses days.

Proly just what they said. ^ As winter wheeling and getting in and out of the car has kept the floor of my GL damp as well. I need to get some rubber floor mats. Or. My wagon was always wet in back after I bought it. Turned out to be water leaking around the rear window seal. (proly not it on your sedan unless it seeps through the rear shelf and into the trunk) And I had a poorly sealing tail light. So everytime it rained (alot here) I had a steady drip onto the rear carpet. Some clear silicone and black foam rubber tape from home depot has 99.9% eliminated the problems for me. Had to throw the carpet away though. Was too far gone. Metal under it is good thought. No rust.

Mine are about 25-26" on there right now. No rubbing, but my suspension seems to sit pretty high. All stock, just good springs I guess. And it looks like I have plenty of room to add another inch or so all the way around and still clear. Only when the steering is fully cranked will I need to have some body mods done. Mike had a family event come up. And his Sube broke an axle so he was fixing that sunday. I went out. It was pretty cool. Ended up running with a lifted Yota and a lifted Jeep. Up past Estacada. They showed me some nasty trails and were impressed that I was able to follow them down all but two of the trails they went down all day. Snow still gets nasty around 2,000 or so feet though. And cause it's deep and wet it just packs in like cement. Other than that everything was clear and muddy. Way super muddy.

Jalopnki revels in tracked Subie hoonage!
TeamCF replied to mtsmiths's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I always love that one though. I like how they seem to think it's a Justy. And as far as E-brake turns.... On the wrong end. Oh well. -
Craziness.

Welcome to/back to the board!

Yeah I'm wondering if I can go with a set of 27" tall all terrains without a lift. Seems like I could and just have to rework some sheetmetal. Not too much though. I kinda want to stay away from the hacked off fenders look. I seem to have found a few different types of budget AT tires in the 27" size for 14 inch rims. AndI think 27" is as big as I wanna go anyway. After that I feel I'll just be cutting into the EA81's power. I don't usualy do the usual "blast over stuff" like it seems I hear is the norm for Subaru off-roading. I like to keep it in LO/1st and creep over/around stuff. If I lose too much low end I'll have to start blasting. Growing up my dad had an old Jeep with a 360 V8 and a Ford tow truck transmission. 1st gear was too low to even be used on the street, you always started in second (and you could lift the front wheels off the ground with that). But man could that thing crawl over stuff at an idle in 1st. I love that sort of thing but all I can afford to go wheeling is the old GL I already have. hehe. Makin' the best of what I got/can afford. And lovin' every time I go out. Which reminds me. Mike wants to go wheeling this weekend. I can proly (most likely, already warned the little lady) make it sunday. I've not heard back from him yet though. Interested? High up is gonna still be way snowed in. But what about on the colton side of Goat? Are there lower trails there with little or no snow? I've found a few good muddy trails around Estacada but they are short and driving much further up to find more just turns into lots of snow fast. Don't want to spend a day digging out of the Cascade Cement. Would rather do a few decent clear trails than try to get to a killer trail high up and have to shovel all day.
-
I'll try that. Ya now I think I have a NAPA filter on there now.....
-
Even though they may not be the most ideal wheeling tires, the increase in clearance and diameter have helped a ton over the 13's. I took it down a really nasty muddy that I know would have had a go at holding on to my soob with the 13's. It just motored right on through.
-
14" Figured it actually gave me more tire options without needing a lift right away. And they popped up for sale just at the right time.

never fix your exhaust... you'll be sorry:)
TeamCF replied to glkiller's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I just fixed my leaky exhaust for DEQ. I know what you mean. Now I can hear everything else that needs attention. Oh well, all part of the game. -
Nice. Now just gotta watch you don't cover yourself with mud when it gets deep and sloppy.....But sometimes thats half the fun.
