  1. The 93 non-turbo tranny you picked up should be the same ratio as the turbo, a 3.90. In 92-94 all the autos were 3.90, the turbos had a stronger clutch pack but they are interchangeable. The 90-91 non-turbo autos were 4.11 but the 91 turbo was 3.90 just like the 92-94's. If you are certain that the tranny you picked up is from a 92-94 there is no reason to change the rear diff. If it is possible to find the car that it was pulled from just check the tag on the rear diff, it should say 3.90. I am assuming that you are not doing a auto to manual swap, if you are you will have to swap the rear also, the manuals were 4.11.
  2. The earlier LSD's (like the 3.70 LSD) used special LSD fluid, the newer VLSD's use regular fluid, the VLSD portion of the diff is sealed.
  3. 1) I used a vice, go slow, put a little alan wrench it the hole to keep it compressed. 2) There is an access hole (with a black rubber plug) to the flywheel. It is located behind the intake manifold. Slide a large screwdriver down into it to stop the flywheel from turning.
  4. I was thinking that if it was a HG or a cracked head, is it worth fixing? If the body and the rest of the car is good I would find a low milage replacement motor. Hummm...now you got me thinking....if you do put in a low milage replacement motor I would change the water pump and belt anyway....disregared my last post.....(unless your car is rusted out or on it's last legs)
  5. I wouldn't spend money and labor on the water pump and belt until I rule out the head gasket. I think the head gasket is blown. The classic 2.2 HG falure is betwen the water jacket and the cylinder, there will be no water in the oil or vise-versa. The engine overheats before the thermostat even gets the hot water to open it. The temp gauge is on top where it is hot and the thermostat is on the bottom where it is still cool. Start the car and look into the overflow bottle, do you see bubbles?
  6. Where did you find the $6 flat rate box? My post office only has $7.70 boxes. Could it have been UPS or FedEX?
  7. I have all the pulleys, idler and gearer. Also have a good used timeing belt, don't know the mileage on it but all the lettering and markings are fresh. Any pulley or the belt, $10 plus shipping.
  8. Yeah, I saw a manual that told me the ECM (aka ECU) was under the passenger carpet also! In real life it is under the dashboard to the left of the steering wheel. Has yellow harness conecters. The tranny computer, the TCU, is under there also, look similar but does not have the yellow conecters.
  9. I have lots of parts you can borrow if you like to "part swap" as part of your troubleshooting. ECU, sensors, MAF, coilpacks....just pay shipping both ways. I can fits lots of stuff into a $7.70 flat rate priority box.
  10. What brand and size tire do you need? This is a long shot but I have several good used tires that I pulled from Subaru's but can't use because I don't have sets of four. Or if I don't have a match, maybe some other pack rat here has one.
  11. I am changeing the head gaskets on my 99 2.5 Legacy. I would rather not have to change them again. Did Subaru come up with a better one or do I go aftermarket? I did a search but got overwhelmed by the amout of information on this topic.
  12. He just replied again, he says it it made in Japan. Anybody use Bando belts?
  13. Found the one on eBay, brand is Bando, anybody know where it is made? I emailed the seller, he gave me the Bando wed site but avoided telling me where it is made.
  14. Looks like I am all set, I matched the Subaru part# to the one on eBay, they match. I'm still confused but it looks like I found the correct belt, thanks guys!!!!!!!!
  15. What was the first year of the interferencce 2.2? Did it start in 95 or 99?
  16. I don't understand why 1stsubaruparts, a reputable dealer, says one fits all?
  17. What is the difference, other than price, between the 90-94 timing belts and the one I need now, the 1999? I realize that the 99 is an interference motor, did they put on a bulletproof belt? I have been paying $30 or so for the older belts now the same dealer wants over a hundred for this one. I figured I would try 1stsubaruparts.com for a price, the belt that came up costs $58 and says it is for ALL 2.2's. If anyone bought one recently, what did you pay and where did you get it?
  18. I have a spare ECU and coil pack, if you would like to borrow them for troubleshooting lemme know.
  19. If you remove the rear diff on a manual car it may not move at all. I am currently parting out a 90 Legacy with a manual tranny. Sold the rear diff and removed the rear axles. I went to drive it out of the way and it didn't move. I can hear the drive shaft flopping around but the car just sits there. I did the same thing with an auto and was able to drive it away. This was yesterday (Sunday) I posted a question about this in the drivetrain section at LegacyCentral.
