  1. Me three. I need some vid to show people. Not just the Rubicon, but some of the other stuff, too. WAY too many people think they're "just cars".
  2. Flavio: not sure on the cost, or who to do it in Portugal, but it has been done lots of times by people here. I believe there are a few places in GB that do it regularly as well. Basically, it usually requires a new tranny, the rear diff, suspension, driveline, and fuel tank, as well as the floorpan from an AWD golf. Go to TDI message boards and post there about what you would like to do. These guys are pretty cool, one of them has his 1.9 TDI to over 200hp and close to 300lb/ft of torque! PS: not trying to steer you away from Subarus at all, just trying to show you a possible alternative to buying a whole new vehicle and modifying it.
  3. Hey JWX: just go! I go out by myself all the time. Bring a hand winch, a tow strap, and some chain. You never know when you might need to do a self-rescue. Once you have some experience and start telling people the trails you conquered, they'll let you go along with them!
  4. Hey, Flavio! Welcome to the board. I have never seen an LPG conversion on one of these engines, but I suppose it could be done. The main obstacle is usually finding a tank that can be legally used inside of a vehicle, especially in a small enough size. (It is unlikely you will find one of a decent size to go under the car). Have you looked into converting your TDI to Syncro/4-Motion?
  5. Seriously, though. Buy one and install it, taking measurements beforehand of about 3-4 tanks of fuel calculated for mileage, either a marked distance for acceleration or a dyno run, and atmospheric conditions. After installation, do the same tests (same # of tanks of gas, averaging mileage; same time to distance or dyno, and atmospheric conditions). If you get a measureable positive change I'll eat my words. I don't believe everything I read on the 'net, so I won't take the word of their web site. I have seen tests on similar devices in several magazines with no conclusive results. I also recall a similar product and the "testimonials" that went along with it being absolute hooey. But like I said, show me your positive test results and maybe I'll buy one myself.
  6. I'm heading to Cranbrook this Sat. (23) after work. There's a bunch of trails around there I'll be checking out on Sunday. Anyone's welcome to come up!
  7. I would think that to have any noticeably good effect, the turbulence generator would have to be placed after the point of fuel injection on an SPFI. Placed before, it would likely cause harmful turbulence - actually causing fuel pooling at certain RPM's. Besides that fact, anything like that put into the air intake will decrease the CFM of the intake system - not a good thing on an already restrictive intake. BTW: here's my idea for a new, inexpensive turbo design. What do you all think?
  8. I vote for the top one looking real and the bottom one being Photoshopped. Is this the mod you want to do for the FI intake?
  9. My dad and uncle and I went on a little off-road adventure on the 4th, back up to the Silver King mine I posted about last month. Anyways, we got to the mine site and started to go down the back road when we saw a guy on an ATV coming up. I backed up a little to let him get by, and he stopped beside us to talk. I asked him where the road went, as there's supposed to be a traverse route up there that I want to find. He said that there's no traverse and further, "that car won't make it down there". I pointed to the first water ditch and said "Is it worse that that?". "Way worse. (glace to signify he felt we wouldn't make it through that first one)". We chatted a bit longer, I asked him if the road went to the lake, ("No" accompanied by a look that made me wonder if he knew there was a lake up there), and then he continued on. So did we. Right down the road he said we wouldn't make it down. Of course, we didn't go all the way, because it wasn't the road I was looking for. Then we went up the mountain to the half-way area of the mine workings, and saw another, de-activated road. 'Must be the one that goes to the lake' I thought, so up we went. It was fairly gnarly, but not too bad compared to some I've been on, even with three of us full-grown guys and our gear. Then we got to the worst part of it (pretty steep, rutted kinda bad from water running down it) and there's the ATV guy coming down! He pulled off the the side a little with a stupified look on his face, and as we drove by I said "It's not that bad!" "It's not that bad?" he repeated, still stupified. We all laughed out loud as we continued up the hill, and he just sat there and stared at us all the way up!!!! Later, he came back up to the lake (that was the right road), and talked with my dad and uncle a bit, but didn't say anything more about us making it up there! atv guy View from cabin Next mountain over Deep pits Natural Bonsai Hiking to cabin Luch Time Silver King lake
