  1. well if you're looking to spend a little bit of money, try www.deltacam.com for a cam for the EA71. Next, get a Weber 32/36 for it as well and get it jetted right for the engine. Check out more in the offroad forum for jetting of Webers. Swap the disty with an electronic disty from an '83-newer EA81 and add some performance plug wires on it as well. Swap the stock coil with an Accel Super Coil, not the Super Stock, but the huge square one. Should give you a bit of power with these things added up together;)
  2. mmmm me want Konigs....... whatcha need for parts and whatnot?
  3. depending on what year car the engine is from, it could have had either a vacuum secondary on the carb or be like the carb you have on your EA71 which has a mechanical secondary. I perfer the mechanical secondary myself which can be easier to deal with. You probably won't have to change the jets or anything in it since they're almost identical but the carb from an EA81 I believe flows a little better since there's about 200cc difference between the engines. You should be fine unless you start adding in performance parts like cams and whatnot.
  4. get a helicoil kit for it. You'll love yourself for buying a kit for it since its also the same kit for the intake manifold bolts and numerous other bolts as well. Its easy to fix in an afternoon. I did it on an XT with the engine in the car. I had to remove the radiator and the fans plus tear apart the front end of the motor but it was easy to fix with the engine in the car.
  5. I found the easiest way to find TDC without any special tools like a compression tester and blah blah blah. First off, pull the #1 sparkplug out and then thread it back in just a couple threads, just enough to let the pressure exscape from the chamber. Then put a ratchet with the correct size socket on it to turn the crank. Slowly listen for the hissing of the air rushing past the loose sparkplug and watch for the timing marks. If the hissing stops and you see no timing marks, keep turning and they might pop up. If they don't, keep turning until it starts hissing again and when it stops, the timing marks should appear. Then static time it by putting it on 8 deg. BTDC.
  6. they're not really alike in any way. I've had an ATX apart *shudders* and its not like a Subaru 4EAT. I don't even think the clutches and steels are the same either since one car is a FWD and the other car is an AWD.
  7. ok well here's a great upgrade for these cars, even if they do have the old style electronic disty in them. Go and find an electronic disty from an '83 to newer 2wd EA81 car. Works wonders for improved mileage, and power as well, plus you'll never have to worry about changing the points in it either since well, i doesn't have any. Its a direct bolt in swap. When I first got my '78 Brat, I did a disty swap and rebuilt the carb and I was getting 30mpg out of it. As for the carb, if you need anything in the FSM about them, maybe one of us with an EA71 FSM can scan them up for you. It came in handy so much when I rebuilt my first EA71 carb....
  8. I've driven a '87 turbowagon that had XT6 swaybars front and rear and it felt like it handled on rails. But then of course I also had a great feel for the car as well;)
  9. I modified a 3 gauge a-pillar pod for a '02 WRX to fit into my RX. Was pretty easy actually since all I needed was a hacksaw and about 30 minutes of time for test fitting and whatnot. I cut some off and used a file to make it look nice and then I mounted it... http://community.webshots.com/photo/302403464/389939708mtzKpQ
  10. there's a BIG tag on the diff that says 3.70 LSD. Here's a pic of the one under my RX and its the same for all of them... Rear diff tag
  11. the only auto that you really have to worry about is the 4EAT and its nothing really to worry about. I just have a fat batch of wires that did go to the tranny but now they're snipped off and hidden away and you'd never know it was an auto car... except for the push button start on the dash:-p
  12. no I'm just getting frustrated with the fact that I can't seem to get it running... I still want the wagon and the RX but I do want my RX to run as well...
  13. Hmm that wagon looks like the one I'm getting... oh wait it IS!!! Thanks for the pics Stan, now I can think about what has to be done as far as plumbing on the RX for my spyder intake and TMIC...
  14. eh I'm still working on that. I'll probably relocate it to the other side or something...
  15. So I'm kinda thinking when I get back from Steamboat Springs, CO in a couple months, maybe havin a work party at my house where I'll also have a couple cars that need to get parted out, plus doing some work on my RX. Just testing the waters on who might be interested in doing it. Maybe some of you from Colorado could come up for the day and we can work out which day it is. I will be however, in Oregon for a week over my birthday to part with my beloved '79 wagon but I need it to go. Anyways, I'm leaving tomorrow afternoon and I won't be getting back except to visit, until the end of Sept. So who might be up for it? It would be a BYOB (bring yor own beer) and maybe a side dish but I would supply the burgers and hotdogs as well...
  16. hmm he has a fart can and that gives him 285 hp? What a mod!!! I need to do it as well:lol:
  17. ok so I'll try bleeding the brakes myself. Hopefully I can find a spare one way valve since I have like a million spare intakes. As far as the parts I owe a couple people, I still haven't forgotten about you, I just have been working a lot between Wal-Mart and helping my friends get their rigs back up to par for trips and whatnot. So I've helped all these people out with nothing in return except for the pure satisfaction of making myself feel better I guess. So I'll get the parts out, I just gotta find time when UPS is open and I can get them there (Will, your box is like a million pounds so I can't take it there on my bicycle lol)
  18. I can't seem to get my car on the road. I've done a lot of work and put a lot of money into her but its really starting to get to me. No one in the area (you know who you are) are willing to come over and give me a hand and the only other people who would be willing to help are friends that work weird schedules or are just plain tired to help me. I look at it everyday and think of how I have over $2500 into a big pile of crap in my driveway and I'm getting tired of it. I'm about to get rid of it if it means either parting it or just selling it as a whole. I've given parts to people to help me get her running but they feel like they have to be at home with their significant other(s) to please them all day, everyday. I'm about to actually get rid of all of my Subarus and go get my Camaro since I know there are more people who would be willing to help me on that then my RX (like in physical help, not internet help). As it is, it'll sit for the next 2 months while I'm working so then when I get back, I can HOPEFULLY get it closer to being running but I can't bleed brakes by myself since I don't have the resources to do it myself. I love friends who say they'll help me over and over again but never do. Makes me think they're not much of a friend as I thought they were... Sorry for the rant....
  19. I still don't see how you're gonna make that happen unless you get an LSD carrier swapped into it and only one person has done such a feat and that was Mudrat79 IIRC. There was never an "AWD" in these bodystyled Subarus, only the FT4WD which came in later '80's GL-10s, XT6's (for the single range) and the RX which had the dual range
  20. IIRC, Calebz isn't running with a spyder intake. He's running with a normal EA82T intake with his TMIC... I know WJM had a few pics of his wagon eons ago but I cannot find any. Also I know SubaruTex has a few in his old RX but I cannot access his pics on his website...
  21. Just want to get an idea of what I will need to make it work. What have other people done to get it to work and where have you mounted the TMIC/how far away from the TB, etc. So, let the pics begin!
  22. sheesh movin fast....
  23. Here in a couple months, I'm going to be getting my hands on a set of brand new OEM gen 3 heads. I was wondering since I'm going to be having them worked a little bit, is it possible to put larger valves in them? Has anyone done it and if so, where do I get the valves? I'm also going to be upgrading the valve springs as well to a stiffer spring rate.
  24. so did you make it back to town then or what's going on? If you did, you gotta come look at my RX before I leave tomorrow (Sunday) for two months to Steamboat Springs, CO...
  25. well if they're 5-lug rims, they're not from a '95 loyale and since there was never a Loyale built in '95, I believe they're probably for a Legacy. Yes they will work if you do a 5-lug conversion on your car. I have 14" steels from a '95 Impreza wagon on my '89 RX currently.
