Vac Line Running into Filter
BobBrumby replied to BobBrumby's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I beleive its left over from when the previous owner removed the air preheat system but reconnected that line for some reason. Yeh we dont need this system in Australia cause it never is really all that cold. Also I disconected it from the hardline from under the manifold and blew into it with my mouth while i had the air box cover off. It deffinately goes straight to one of thoese hard lines inside the filtered area cause I could feel the air coming through. -

Vac Line Running into Filter
BobBrumby replied to BobBrumby's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
One end comes from the hard line from under the manifold and goes to the hard line that runs into the filter. Nothing inbertween i cant spell -

Has that still got both engines in it??? -
On my ea81 there is a line that connects onto one of the hard lines from under the manifold and runs straight into the oval air box ontop of carb. The hardline that it connects to is welded beside the one that the distruter gets its vac from. The car is running fine but I thought this was a bit odd. Is it normal or should I plug the hard line Cheers:banana:

Thinking of De'emissioning my Brat
BobBrumby replied to BobBrumby's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The purge line from the charcoal canister runs directly into the intake manifold. The vacuum line just runs to one of those vacuum hard lines comming from under the inlet manifold. Can I just run the bowl vent line directly to the inlet manifold where the pruge line used to go in and plug the vent line allong with fuel tank line? -
Thinking of De'emissioning my Brat

"You can remove the evap canister - just make sure you run the float bowl vent tube somewhere.... into the air filter box would be good. You can leave the gas tank vent line open to the air." In my Gregory's Service Manual it says it has two vapour hoses, a purge hose and a vacuum pipe. Is the float bowl tube sometimes called purge hose. And I duno what kindof carbi it is and the engine came in the car when i bought so no i didnot drop it in myself. I just assumed it was ea82 cause its a 1990. If it aint could u tell us? -
I have been thinking off de'emsissioning my 1990 ea82 carbed brat for a while and have read a few previous posts on this before. From what I have read most people have chosen to leave the pcv system in and i prob will too. I just wanted to know what systems I should kill and what to leave to add a little perofrmance and clean up the engine bay (air injection, egr, charcoal canister?) Yeh and btw i live in australia, queensland and as long as you pay the registration its considered road worthy. But if u let it get unregistered you need to get a road worthy cert. from a mechanic before u can register it again. For example we dont have tail pipe tests or underhood inpections periodically as I hear you guys do. So bad emmsions aint really a huge problem Any replies would be good, thanks

I wanted to know how tight 39Nm is and btw i dont have a tourgue wrench. Any replies welcome
-
I dont have a tourque wrench and my service manual says that it should be 29Nm tight. This is the nut that screws onto the balljoint and holds the controll arm in place note it has a slpit pin to hold it inplace. I was just wondering how tight it should be e.g. finger tight, or really tight. Cheers

What the deal with N/A Cars?
BobBrumby replied to BobBrumby's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...

I have read a few posts and some people say they have like n/a wagons, i think, and i was just wondering what this meant. Cheers

Dang Accident, need to know compatitbility
BobBrumby replied to BobBrumby's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeh pitty they didnot fix drainage channels where the shock absorber attaches to in the rear. They get clogged way to easy and are begining to rust. -
I just had an accident the passenger's side front suspension and steering needs to be replaced. I have available for a parts an early model wagan that is sitting in a paddock. I was just wondering if there was any chance i could use some of the stuff from it for the work that needs to be done on a '92 brat. I could take photo's of the engine from it that is sitting under my house, if this could identify what type of wagon it is. Yeah I hope not to right of the car but cause i live in Australia part are quite pricey and I am trying to keep the cost down. Any help would be much appreciated to get it back on the road.

Yeh Qman but my dad says "The people who put that line in are engineers and wouldnot have done it for to heck of it". I am still thinking of rerouting the pcv and using two filters. I just goto find the time to do it. And btw I cleaned all the hoses for the pcv and soaked the valve in kero. The valve seems still good cause you can only blow one way through it (into the engine). After testing the suction again once I had installed everything there didnot feel to be much difference so maybe that all the suction it requires. Thanks Anyway Qman and long live the Brumby
-
In my service manual for my Brumby it says to test to operation the valve disconect the hose at the 'T' peice (drivers side) and put your finger over the tube while its idling and if there is a strong suction everythings fine. I tested mine and suction was pretty bloody poor, you know i could suck harder than it . Is this normall or should check the hoses then try a new valve? Cheers Again

Yeh cause i bought the car about a month ago off one of my sister's friend. I also wanted to know what the stock size of the exhaust is, cause it got a 2" on it atm.
-
Yeh I was just gunna put a K&N filter on my hitachi (i think) to give it a bit more grunt up high.
-
Would I have to rejet my carbi in a '92 Brat if I change the air filter? Thanks Again

So who would build the NEXT trashwagon?
BobBrumby replied to MilesFox's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
are trashbrumbies allowed? -
I was just wondering what your recomendation is on the size of a pod filter. The hole at the top of my carbi is 60mm wide would it be better to get a 60mm pod filter or a 3 inch one and reduce it? Any sugestions would be great, thanks.
-
OK sweet time to buy a 3" k&n pod filter, another filter, various hoses and some conectors, to get my Brumby to breathe properly. Hopefully this makes her go a bit harder. Thanks Again
-
Yeh that is what I am thinking of doing but i also have 3 other lines running into the stock air filter. I dont really know what these are for and in a previous post someone told me these may only function in the vacuum of the stock filter. One line is as wide as the ones coming from the crankcase ventalation line and the other 2 are the smaller kind, if this is any help. Could I run all 5 lines into a seperate filter without any troubles? Cheers
