try puttin a spark plug or similar in the pipe where the air injection system gets its air from the air cleaner. see if that fixes it -

Intermediate Windsreen Wippers
BobBrumby replied to BobBrumby's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The wiper switch that i have has two looms one has four wires the other has six wires. Yeh that would be great TomRhere and also how many wires does the delay module have coming out of it? I already have two cylidrical relay's with a rubber ring attatched to the metal mounted near the steering column. -

this "controll module" is it like the other relay's close to the steering column ? I have one that look similar with the numbers 056700-5260 and 10B20 on it but it the diagram on it looks like a relay. -

yeh over here you can get brumbies with gl brumby plastic sicker thinging on the tailgate but mine must be a dl or sumthin -
In my parts pile I have a switch with intermediate lo and hi for the wippers and the one in my brumby only has hi and lo. Could i just change out the switch to get intermediate wippers or would extra wiring and/or the intmertiate equipped motor be required? b.t.w i do have the motor but dont know what shape it is in. i beleive these parts where from a ea81 wagon in a paddock, liberated by the previous owner. and speaking of the previous owners that cant wire for ****e. most of the sterio was done using 240v mains stuff and left 3 times too long grrr. I just spent the weekend wiring a relay for my electric fan and finding all the cuts and repairs in the loom done by the previous owners.

How much current does the stock elec fans draw?
BobBrumby replied to BobBrumby's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
With that setup the fan can spin when car is off and drain your battery. It would be better to put the old fan possitive up to the switching side of the relay so the fan can only get power when key is on. The side that the wire that goes to your dash switch but the possitive. -

Are you sure thats for an ea81 no ac?Cause mine opens at 95 degrees to earth the fan as it is recieving a constant 12 volt while key is in on possition. -

bump 1. How much current does the stock electric radiator fans draw? 2. At what temperature does the thermoswitch in the radiator ground itself? -
I am gunna put a switch in my console so I can ground the electric fan whenever I want to make it spin instead of waiting for my water temp to come up. So I need to rate the switch according to how much it draws. I tested the switch with a pot full of water, a thermometer and a ohmeter, it went at 95 degrees celcius or 203 degrees F. And btw at what temp should a stock thermoswitch ground itself?

Well its meant to be cranky , ehehehe, you get it dont you?

Sometimes when i turn the key to start my brumby nothing happens, i got all lights n stuff, you sit there turning the key then releasing turning releasing and so on. Then it will crank normally start and its wierd cause sometimes it cranks first turn. It "seems" that it if i take the key out and put back in and turn again it cranks more often. 1. Does this sound like a problem with the ignition barrel, where the key goes in, and/or can you take the barrel appart and clean it? 2. Got any ideas? Cheers:drunk:

Revs by its self when running hot
BobBrumby replied to subestyle18's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
and if you still have a mech fan more flow thru radiator -
I just bought a new radiator and i want to flush the whole system when i install it into my brumby. Should i take out the two drain plugs on the bottom of the heads and t into the heater core lines with the garden hose? Could someone explain howto flush the the cooling passages, as i cant find any good posts through the search.

yeh i just rang arround $550 new from the dealership and $330 for an aftermarket one from this Subaru shop. i am gunna see if it can be fixed soon.

I found the leak its in the seam on the engine side above the lower radiator hose running the whole height of the radiator. In the middle white corrosion has pushed the seams 3 or so mm apart. ha i cant beleive i couldn't see this before. Do you recon this radiator is worth getting soldered up? btw: the gauge never reads over half way in the console and this is with a suspect thermoswitch for the electric fan.

Hmm, spare 2.2 engines and what to do with them?
BobBrumby replied to DrKrazy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Nah the 2.2 wont bolt up to the ea tranny you will need an adapter plate. I think there is someone on the board has done this but if not you should try the back-yard boys forum, http://www.ausubaru.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi , they have heaps of posts on this type of thing in the conversion section. -
My radiator on mah Brumby has a slow leak arround where the lower radiator, i know its not leaking from the hose, but i have not be able to pin point the leak. Its has been leaking about a whole overflow bottle about every month or two. It has about 260,000 KM on the clock and i think its the orriginal radiator. My dad recons i should try some rad stop leak but u guys said this can do more damage than it fixes. Anyone have any suggestions on how i can fix it or should i bite the bullet and buy a new one? When you reverse flush the engine block do you have to take out the T-stat? How often should the t-stat be replaced because while im in there i may as well replace it too, along with the gasket.

Yeh my steering wheel is on the other side so i supose it would be on the drivers side for you yanks. Hmm so i think illl leave that one then?

In my 1990 Brumby there is a fine hose with an outer diameter of about 2-3mm running through the firewall close to where the fuel send and return and tank vent lines go through. Its connected the intake manifold by a "screw on barb" with a regular sized vacuum hose which then stepped down to the finer one that runs through the firewall. I cant find it anywhere in my dodgy service manual and I would like to know if anyone knows what this line does? Cheers

I have been told on a few occassions on this board that it is easier and in some cases cheaper to swap in a turbo engine than it is to fabricate one onto a N/A (normally aspirated) engine. Yeh one of my cv's clicks too
