diagnosing from 2,000 miles away.... stalling
Olnick replied to mikeamondo's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI like to remove the IACV from the car for cleaning--one electrical connector, two small hoses and, IIRC, three small bolts. Then you can watch the gunk flow out as you clean it! You're supposed to use a new gasket when you put it back in (although I must confess, I re-used the old one!) Here's an old discussion for what it's worth: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=40494&highlight=iacv+clean Good luck Mike, hope it solves the problem for her.

1990 Legacy L codes
Olnick replied to doc526's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIt's possible, if they were never used before, that the connectors are still taped to the wiring harness under there. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong about that!) Car sounds great--hope it works out for you.

2010 Legacy steering problem
Olnick replied to legacy_diesel's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWhere are you? Where did you buy the car? Could be a power steering problem--if you bought from a dealer have them check it over ASAP. Good luck.

Messed up a timing belt tensioner???
Olnick replied to Oil Phil-M's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSounds like you might be okay (although I know nothing about the new style tensioners!) Welcome aboard, Phil. If you can master the search function you can find everything you need to know about Subies here. And if not just ask--USMBers are the most helpful people in the world!

Neutral Switch
Olnick replied to tcspeer's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHi tc! Could it be just a bad wire or electrical connector?

new forum user
G'day cowby! Welcome aboard--you've found a good place here. Does "brumby" mean what we call Brats, or does it mean Subies in general? Anyway, all the best to you down there in Oz.

Non OEM knock sensor, anyone install one?
Olnick replied to Rpm90001's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXJust my personal experience, bought a knock sensor off of Ebay a year ago for $45 or so. Don't remember the brand but it looked just like every knock sensor I've ever seen! Put it in my son's '92 Legacy and it has been working just fine. Although I generally believe in OEM parts sometimes it's just not necessary to pay extra just for a name.

cooling fan not shutting off
Olnick replied to weldersd's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI may be wrong here but I don't think the '96 EJ25 requires the conditioner.

Coolant bubbles
Olnick replied to ktdenali's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIt's great that you have so much respect for the mechanic. I would suggest that you take the car back to him and get his input on what's happening. If he's as good and professional as he sounds, he might appreciate the chance to correct the problem.

Corvallis area people/mechanic.
^+1! Check out some salvage/pull 'n pay yards--should be able to fine one for cheap.

Cam pulley identification
Olnick replied to eppoh's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYes! Direction is always taken from your position as the driver. Sit in the driver's seat and put your hands on the steering wheel--your left hand indicates the left side of the car, your right hand indicates the right!

95 Legacy Wagon L 2.2 At stutter at 55 mph +????
Olnick replied to SantaFeSubi's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou'd be very wise to get a piece of string and measure the circumference of all 4 of your tires, even though they may be marked as the same size. Otherwise do what Fairtax said put a fuse in the FWD holder.

Olnick replied to SantaFeSubi's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXNGK plugs and OEM wires are highly recommended for Subarus. Bosch plugs and aftermarket wires might work for awhile but . . . !

Dragging caliper
Olnick replied to 1-3-2-4's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI didn't read it all (but I will later!) Seems to be pretty thorough so yeah, I'd do what they say.

Dragging caliper
Olnick replied to 1-3-2-4's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIf I were you I'd remove all the calipers (one at a time) and check the condition of the pistons, seals, slides and pad clips. Clean 'em all up, reassemble, grease and check for smooth operation. Don't need to replace calipers 'til you see that one (or more) are bad. Afterwards you'll need to bleed the brake lines of course. Good luck.
